Before: "Virginie's as good a fighter as we have at 110," Hayden says in prefight. "Smart - good boxer - and at Foxfire, we have a healthy respect for her Sarah-busting pop. So she's a complete package - but it's a package I've unwrapped in the past, and I'm pretty comfortable with in the ring. I'm stronger inside - she knows it: if she lets me in there, I'm winning. I'm that confident." Ledoyen returning the props in prefight - with qualifications. "Hayden is proud of her strong body - with justification," Virginie allows, "but she may be under-rating my power, non? It may not simply be Sarah-busting pop that I have. If Hayden truly wishes to test my firepower, she may have to upgrade her estimates accordingly." Virginie in cerulean blue bikini; small black gloves; hair in loose brown ringlets. Hayden in fighting red/white horizontal barred bikini; small white gloves.

During R1: Early midring slugging - Virginie twisting into licks from her hips, catching Hayden rangy rights and lefts to chin. Panny pushing through it, clubbing back at French ribs and breasts - SMOKIN' trade gets insane fast, bringing crowd to it's feet. Glorious stuff - Ledoyen inching back in good order, walking Hayden in pasting her over and over and PANETTIERE'S DOWN! Hayden punched to hands and knees, panting, blinking: Carter ringside slams palms on apron, screaming "GET UP!" Woozy 8, Hayden - she's still not all together when she earmuffs up, stoops forward and tries to wade off ropes. Ledoyen loping in, tilts in over front (left) foot to jerk short, fish-hook left uppercut to Hayden's chin, followed by another dug to jug. Right hand pumps blonde tummy; left digs at ribs - Ledoyen stepping back and letting Hayden stumble into harm. Virginie leans back out of range of Hayden's desperate leave-me-alone swing: French girl leans back in with arcing overhand right and a pair of left uppercuts off front leg. Hayden hurt, stumbling forward: Virginie pulls the strings, turns her foe, leans in and out, and puts a sensational pasting onto heavily favoured American. Bell: Hayden blinking in wonder, buttocks trembling; she definitely withstood Sarah-busting pop as Virginie lands HUGE in the first.

R2: Ledoyen's got her respect: she settles in behind the jab, looking to box. Panettiere crouching behind gloves, weaving her way slowly in: tentative attack from still-buzzed Hayden. Virginie's right (back leg) heel up high off canvas - she's pivoting crisply to her left, really pulsing that jab onto Hayden's head and shoulders. In spots, Ledoyen will turn over short right hands/comeback hooks - then slide back outside behind educated European poke. Hayden blocking well, but kept under wraps - doing only grazing damage to proud French ribs in exchange.

R3: Hayden rights the ship: legs're back - tempo rising - she's able to penetrate. Virginie showing a loose crouch once Hayden's past the jab; French girl keeping right at her chest, left across her gut - putting left shoulder into Hayden. Panny bangin' - FURIOUS left/right combos as she switches side to side on sturdy hips, beating Virginie's torso. Ledoyen calm - nudging with the shoulder, slouching forward, rolling slightly with the shots: she can't work with Hayden here, but she's doing a nice job minimizing and nibbling as Panettiere pounds out points.

R4: Same again - Panettiere able to pass Virginie's jab: Ledoyen denying Hayden good chest-position, forcing Panny to negotiate that pesky left shoulder. Rubbing, bumping and right hand counters from Virginie: constant bashing and clubbing from Hayden as blonde imposes will. Ledoyen getting hit a lot on her flanks and arms, but she's pretty sly here: dipping, slouching, rolling shots with her shoulder - she's not getting hurt despite being in Hayden's wheelhouse. More points for Panettiere: she's clearly outworking Ledoyen, but failing to back her to ropes or subjugate her through main force.

R5: Free swinging slugging midring again - Ledoyen proving brash, almost cocky as she stands in and swaps swats. Virginie's blows rangier - rising up from the hips as she's leaning forward, twisting side to side to sling leather onto Hayden's chin. Panettiere well smote - trudging forward: SHE wants that ribcage, willing to pay any price to get there. Furious slugging, but not random action: clever Virginie sliding back, luring Hayden forward, clip-clapping away on her and PANNY'S HURT! Hayden wobbling out of control midway through - eyes dazed, mouth open: she can't believe she's shook. Virginie lean and vigorous, sweeping the looping overhand right onto Hayden's face; hooking her to breast and chin, then sliding out of range. Down the stretch, ragged Hayden blunder forward into a murderous shellacking: Ledoyen slopping it on with her torso bobbing/twisting into rangy rights and lefts - ticketing Hayden's chin. Bell: Panettiere astonished, swaying on the spot; Ledoyen raising right arm, jogging happily to her corner.

R6: LEDOYEN CHARGES HAYDEN! Hyper aggressive Virginie across the ring and firing before Panettiere can get herself right: little blonde swept into ropes near her corner. Hayden sitting in ropes, hands at temples, trying to rally: Virginie leaning forward over front foot, givin' it to Hayden lanky! OH THOSE PASTING LEFTS AND RIGHTS! Hayden's head jumping off of her gloves as uppercuts rip home to chin; Hayden's body twitching and cringing under stroking hooks. Furious initial salvo blasts at Hayden's guarded head, loosening her up, then Virginie settles into uppercut barrage. Left and right uppies - Virginie getting 'em in all bendy-backed and supple, keeping elbows in close to her body, just picking Hayden up tidy between her gloves. Hayden sputtering, baby-stepping forward, stooping forward into harm. Virginie pumping uppercuts - left/right/left/right - digging at Hayden's breasts and chin. Hayden stumbling - Sarah screaming - PANNY GOES DOWN! Hayden sprawling face-first to canvas - picking her drowsy head up, trying to push up off her chest but it's NO GO! Good Lord - KO6 Virginie Freakin' Ledoyen!

After: HBO suits cringing, crushing styrofoam cups, cursing in the box seats; stunned crowd roaring on reflex. Giddy Ledoyen proves a Foxfire jinx yet again - stinging Sarah last year, vexing Hayden now. Ledoyen actually coming back to make sure Panettiere's OK once dust settles - Virginie gracious after posting a gloat-worthy upset. Ledoyen insisting on having Hayden in the shot for postfight - out of respect for little blonde dynamo. "She...I just took too many shots," a sheepish Hayden Panettiere admits as Ledoyen chuckles. "She said she could hurt me and I didn't really believe her. She gambled - I see that now - but I was always thinking she was going to back out and box more. Like I said - Virginie's a great fighter - I thought maybe I was going to put my foot down on her head-to-head, but she just wouldn't have it tonight." Ledoyen to the right of the shot, smiling pleasantly - she's just about to address the camera when Carter barges in, pulling Hayden by her arm and angrily snarling at her: "What the hell are you doing? Don't TALK with her - are you insane?" That's it - Panny and Carter nearly coming to blows - Virginie bemused, goes on to give rational interview as bickering blondes exit stage left.
