Before: Heigl programmed to beat Jewel, is a bigger, slower version of the hard hitting singer. Indicative of jewel’s new status that she’s a target—she welcomes the challenge and acknowledges Heigl as a legitimate threat. Boxing insiders a little less certain—Katherine needs to prove she belongs with the big girls. Heigl in white sports top, light blue adidas trunks, Jewel light blue bandeau bikini.

During R1: Jewel right where Katherine wants her, and Heigl able to shove Jewel upright, then work the body with right hands. Katherine fighting big, walks her girl to the ropes and applies steady grinding pressure. Jewel soaking it up, stops punching, trying to smother her foe’s bashing punches. Round ends with Kathy pushing jewel roughly over the top rope with a forearm at the neck, stuffing a hard right hand repeatedly into Jewel’s breasts/

R2: Playtime’s over—both girls want the other to go away. Leaning into right hands, both girls get their bodies in behind pounding blows to the face, trading at center ring and wobbling each other repeatedly with the haymaking action, toe to toe, Heigl seems to be gaining the advantage. But Jewel makes an adjustment, bobbing her way inside to rip Frazier left hooks to Kathy’s waistline, putting a grimace on Heigl’s face and forcing her to the ropes. Katherine with her hands out at chest level, pouting, looking to slug her way off the ropes as Jewel hammers the midsection. Midway through the round, Jewel keeping Heigl on her heels with up and down movement leading into battering ram hooks downstairs—Kilcher times Heigl’s counter uppercut, smashing the youngster’s face to the side with a hard left hand over top. Katherine caught cold, sets up to throw a wobbly right hand, but it’s way late. Jewel bends into her own crashing right off Katherine’s sleepy face, pounding Kathy out with the single blast, bending low on follow through. Heigl misses over the top with her right hand, slowly corkscrewing to her haunches and sitting peacefully up against the ropes—eyes fluttering open and shut as she sits in a KO’d heap. After: Awesome KO bombs thrown by both women, but Jewel with better ability to set up her power stroke, gets it done in spectacular fashion. “I had trained to wear her down,” reports a slightly scuffed Jewel in post fight. “But when we started slugging, I knew one of us was going down. As soon as I caught her, I knew she was gone—I felt that punch vibrating in my heels! Katherine can fight a little, I hope she sticks with it.” Damned by faint praise perhaps, but Heigl can learn from the outing if she chooses.
