Two of the sexiest fighters on the card both over 40—cougar boxing in very good shape as both showed up in shape, ready for 10 rounds of competition. Elle leaner, taller, much longer limbed: real technical challenge for the master-boxer Vanessa as she face physical disadvantage for the first time during her comeback—the result would be a hotly contested, crowd-pleasing slugfest with a slick, professional flavour.

As it turned out, Vanessa didn’t have to solve for distance: Elle willingly gave up her height, bending her knees, pointing the left shoulder and stacking her hands at her torso to draw Vanessa forward in hopes of exchanging. It nearly backfired as Williams put combinations together early and had MacPherson staggering with hurt in the first and second, but the fabulously conditioned Aussie wouod rally, turning into a thrilling, flat footed, think man’s action fight.

Vanessa jabbed out of a high guard, moved her head, looked to hook the body: Elle edged her left shoulder into Vanessa looking to bump, then lick lanky, strapping hooks and slinging right hands. The women swapped hotly contested rounds—often winning points by the barest of margins. Both worked the body: Vanessa with short, pounding combinations; Elle with thick, sloshing left hook parked repeatedly in above Vanessa’s right hip. Williams was ahead on points going into the ninth when Elle busted her a lead right/slinging left hook combination to put Vanessa on her back: all of a sudden, the Queen of the Cougars looked through her crown would definitely be passing to another vixen. But Williams would rally, ship a beating throughout the remainder of the ninth, then surge back to punish Elle up against the ropes to salt way the victory in the tenth.

A barnburner; a pleasing look and style; both women with plenty left to offer despite the so-called age factor.
