Before: Chen’s been matched tough this go-round--O’Dell seen as a necessary step back to build confidence. Jenny fights with heart, never quits on herself, but doesn’t have the “science” part figured out. Joan with a chance to show her wares of she fights smart--non-televised bout. Jenny in baby blue bikini, white gloves, Joan in black sports bra, black bikini bottoms, short hair.

During R1: Girls turning shoulder to shoulder, suddenly Jenny goes at Chen’s body with murderous intent and JOAN IS HURT! O’Dell just heaving in the body shots, scooping lefts and rights under the elbows, hair flying as she bends side to side for leverage. Joan buckling in the ropes with a sick look of shock--jenny there for counters but Chen can’t pull the trigger. A stunned Joan Chen covers up and takes it on the ropes the rest of the way in this four-corners shutout for O’Dell--blonde beating brunette pillar to post about the hips and waist with gaudy, gleeful punching. Chen vibrating during the break, has to fight another battle for her trainer to continue the bout.

R2: O’Dell piling on once again, bull-rushing Joan to the ropes, palming up with one hand, heaving in the free hand to the body, then alternating as Chen sinks into stupor from the get-go. Chen with some moments late in the round, countering off the block as she fights off the ropes, but she’s getting snowballed by the exuberant blonde.

R3: BIG right hand to the solar plexus buckles Chen’s legs to open--once again she’s a hurting victim powerless to mount effective offense as O’Dell bullies Joan in to the ropes. O’Dell wild, bashing her fists against Joan side to side reefs up into the ribcage--Jenny able to just pitch away without fear as Chen sinks into stupor. O’Dell piling on, not hearing the bell, just helping herself to more belly as Chen gurgles, butt on ropes, arms hugging her wasted midriff.

R4: Joan Chen’s taken a raw beating, but she’s still there, and O’Dell comes out arm weary this round. Joan able to bite face with a punishing jab., and by the midway point, Chen gets Jenny swinging, calmly beating the blonde to short lefts and rights to the face and O’DELL GETS HURT! Jenny broken after the sharp exchange, reeling on her heels to a corner as Chen walks her down, War breaks out in the final minute as O’Dell wards off the shutout--toe to toe, face on face trade as each girl pours it into the other’s midsection at the bell.

R5: O’Dell back with the advantage. She’s got Joan hurt to the body, and every chance she gets, she goes right back there for more. Chen with her guard low, crossing her arms across her belly and leaning a shoulder into O’Dell--Jenny can shine out of this position. O’Dell getting off with single punch strikes--everything heavy--touching the waist, the jugs and chin with little curling blows in tight, keeping her shoulder on Chen in between punches.

R6: Chen finally showing her class. Girls lean in shoulder to shoulder, hands low--each trying to dig at openings, but stay in close to smother receipts and Joanie polishes Jen up this round. Rotating clockwise, it’s all Chen, swatting, putting a hand in behind Jen’s elbow and turning the blonde, getting to the side where she can label the unprotected kidney. O’Dell face glistening, eyes glazed after 3 strong minutes gives Chen the shutout.

R7: The stand at midring and bring the small crowd to its feet with electrifying bang-bang exchanges in an effort to bring the opponent to her knees. Heads snap back suddenly, knees bend then stiffen, sharp impacts bounce off shiny torsos as the girls stand and trade for two minutes in almost non-stop action. Final minute, Chen’s got Jenny timed, licks a left inside O’Dell’s wide hook, drives a short right inside Jenny’s looping cross and O’Dell sputters backwards wobbly butt! Chen hops aboard, bludgeoning O’Dell along the ropes as the blonde covers up panicky to take to the bell.

R8: Mirror image of the seventh--hammer and tongs as the fight rags all around the ring for the first two minutes, then Chen taking over down the stretch with superior hand speed and timing. Round ends with O’Dell glassy eyed, seated on the ropes, right hand at her cheek, left across her belly, taking a torrent of curling left/rights off her mouth to the bell.

R9: ALL JENNY O’DELL! With the fight turning Asian, Jenny builds her best round of the fight, Starts methodically--girls laying in, hands low, just trying to muscle one another round and Jenny gets Joan moving backward. O’Dell brings up the tempo as the round progresses, putting punches together, getting wince out of the stoic Chen as hooks under the elbow start to find sweet spots. Rises to crescendo as O’Dell breaks Joan down and starts beating her relentlessly in the final minute. Chen swooning, stumbling to the ropes, hands stupid in front of her face as Jenny cranks lefts and rights, ripping to the body, clubbing to the head and DOWN GOES CHEN! Joan just battered to her knees, beats the count, but she is swollen-eyed, open mouthed ruin after 9.

R10: ALL JOAN CHEN! A badly battered Joan Chen once again waves off her trainer, marches out and does what she has to do. Piling on from the opening bell, she drives O’Dell around the ring with fierce cluster-punching in between the hips, across the breasts, and upside the head. O’Dell on her heels, turning her shoulders occasionally to slip, but her defensive measures are too slow--Joan’s nailing her flush. Down the stretch, then working around the blonde’s sides as O’Dell crumples forward, but she wont go down. Bell sounds to end a nail biter. Decision come s back by narrow margin: UD10 Jenny O’Dell!

After: Chen with taped hands on hips, records the verdict with  blank expression, eyes almost closed, face battered and sore--she fought Jenny;s fight and lost. Big win for O’Dell, a minor upset in most books--knockdown sealed the deal in an otherwise pitched battle. Chen once again showing superior durability, soaking up a true beating in many rounds and refusing to quit--but she’s 0 and 3 for the comeback.
