When most boxing insiders think of Kate Hudson they think “blonde quitter” and dismiss her out of hand. But Kate’s built sturdily and has always possessed good genetics for the game--and having recently ejected her mother Goldie Hawn from camp the better to focus on fundamentals, Hudson’s looked good to great in sparring against no-name partners drawn largely from dance and service industries. Against Kate B, Hudson would have to step up her game considerably just to survive,. And although Beckinsale’s class prevailed, Ms. Hudson may have finally hammered out a small slice of respect for herself with this gutty stand.

Kate Hudson has never led an FCBA boxing match through 6 rounds, but she did so here and did in blustery, aggressive fashion, Beckinsale fought with her back to the ropes, looking rumpled and harassed, as Hudson’s peppy, non-stop and surprisingly beefy assault routinely pancaked, smothered and jostled the Elite Brit. Hudson was busy about Beckinsale’s breadbasket--blonde shoulders were constantly pressed in on Beckinsale, making it hard to breathe. Hudson’s legs--always curvy and full--appeared stronger than Beckinsale’s as blonde routinely pinned brunette down to prevent escapes. Katie B covered up crossed arm or earmuff--snatching back in spots, or standing upright while extending her arms down, her hands grabbing at Hudson’s wrists underneath--but the going was thick indeed, with Hudson competing  every second of every round as though determined to win this thing.

Through the latter half--Beckinsale sloooowly asserted herself--first by digging hard, respect-getting hooks to Hudson’s midsection to back the blonde off the apron, then by establishing the jab to make Hudson fight outside. At range, in the middle if the ring--Beckinsale’s superior skills began to shine as Becks pumped her jab, stepped to her left, and placed heartless right hands to Hudson’s chin, flapjack breasts and sturdy waist. While outclassed, Hudson never came close to giving in tonight--crossing her arms, gnashing her teeth, she battled through her opponent’s sharp punching to bang away at that regal ribcage and classy chassis, constantly imposing on Becks and obliging brunette to use her feet, As the decision was announced a one-point duke in favour of Beckinsale--boos from the audience brightened Kate Hudson’s puffy/shiny face. For perhaps the first time in her ring career--Kate Hudson left a fight feeling better about herself going out than coming in.
