Before: Important crossroads fight - both girls having trouble gaining traction in a slippery lightweight division, both coldly sizing the other up as the answer. "Casta's a plodder," says Cameron charitably, "I'm going to lion tame her with my left, bust her up with my right. Reports of my demise are being grossly exagerrated, unfortunately for Laetitia."

Casta on the bubble, top 10 standing could be in question if she falters against Diaz. "Every fight is important," Laetitia says, "I just have to focus and put pressure on Cameron. Inside, she is not the warrior Laetitia Casta is."

During R1: Diaz using the ring, long gangly strides as she lopes around the perimeter. Laetitia making the fight, chin tucked, stalking forward, she's spearing hard right hands to the chest, making Diaz look very tentative. Judges not fooled by Cameron's occasional batting flurries and leggy escapes - she's running. Round to Casta.

R2: Cameron standing, getting off with backhand lefts, chopping right hands with nice hip rotation, but she's leaning straight back with her hands down and Laetitia's clipping her. Casta calm, standing in the pocket and timing her slower, but more accurate punches in between Diaz' flashy combinations. Lats also setting down on a bashing right hand under the heart - showing a little Cat Bell look as she finds ways to neutralize Cam's speed, backing the blonde up awkwardly at times.

R3: Cameron establishing control at last, jab and legs working in tandem. Diaz wheeling to her left, turning Laetitia midring - Casta unable to get the range as Cameron sticks and moves. Diaz pretty putting a chop-chop one-two onto Casta while backing up - not many fighters can do that.

R4: Shutout Casta. Laetitia unimpressed, hunts Cameron down this round, pounds her heart with meanspirited right hand leads, whallops the rightside ribcage with wide left hooks and hounds Diaz to the ropes. Cameron setting up like old Ali - hands at her face, elbows in, trying to cushion blows with body leans and rolls - Laetitia pawing the jab to get openings for chin-seeking right hands, reefing hooks in under Diaz' right elbow, shaking the blonde's waist with thumping right/lefts. Diaz warned for holding as she routinely cups Casta behind the head and ties her up.

R5: Diaz dancing backward, times Casta coming in, stops, drops the sudden left/right on the mouth and CASTA GOES DOWN! Laetitia herky-jerky to her knees, sputtering in shock as Diaz lifts her mitts and flashes that grin. Casta up at 8, eyes vacant - on comes Cameron! Diaz takes a horsewhip to Laetitia - dancing in, licking long arms in rising arcs to bat at Casta's torso and face, stepping out, stepping in, chopping down with that little hammer-hand right. Laetitia windblown, but taking a great shot - she's wobbling, buckling, but refusing to go down as Diaz tears her up in one sequence after another. Casta battered around the ring, but she keeps it together, earmuff guard, strong legs see her through. Huge 10-8 Cameron Diaz.

R6: Casta grim as she marches on Diaz, pounding lead right hands to the body, backing Diaz up. Cameron looking to step back and time Casta for counters. End of the first minute, Laetitia bounces that right hand off Diaz' upperchest, shaking blonde legs, then bends to the right, pulling a monster left hook into Cameron's face. Diaz caught throwing her own hook, takes it flush - she's out before she hits the canvas. Cameron imploding, sprawling on her back - referee waves this off as ringside physicians rush in. KO6 Laetitia Casta.

After: All even after 5, both girls having their moments, but it's over in a heartbeat as Casta finds china-chinned Cameron's sweet spot. Casta showing good versatility, turning puncher, forcing the action on Diaz. "I wanted to make sure we were hitting each other, not just posturing the way Diaz prefers," says Laetitia, "even though she caught me, I knew it was acceptable if I were catching her in turn."
