Before: Biel nostalgic, remembering Carpenter's prime at the WB: "Hey, it's a thrill to be fighting her again. You look at Charisma now and you see a girl who's lost a step she'll never get back, a girl who's lost her physique, gotten soft, a girl who's career outside of the ring is effectively over, but anyone who came up with her at the WB remembers how great she was. Charisma Carpenter ruled with an iron fist and the WB didn't pamper it's prospects - she was put in with everybody. The Daniels twins hated her. Once she gave up 20 pounds and put a beating on Ali Landry in sparring, I mean, she had it going on. It's sad to think that most people never even got a chance to see her at her best." Carpenter in baby blue bra and panties, Biel in pink.

During R1: CC relaxed, right hand at her cheek, left across her gut - she wants to edge inside, Biel obliges as the girls shoulder up. Carpenter snap-snatching hooks at Biel's taut middle, then doubling up to cuff ear, then turning over choppy rights. Jessica hanging back in the first minute, but midway through she turns it on, catching Carpenter a tight right uppercut on the inside, lifting CC onto her right foot, shaking that backside. Biel banging out hooks loud against Carpenter's right side - CC groaning on the take. Down the stretch, girls trade digging, heartfelt hooks to the waist, then come upstairs - CC just a hair quicker, clipping Biel's chin and PUTTING JESSICA WOBBLY BUTT! CC with a brace of jolting straight rights and swinging hooks puts JB against the ropes - Biel leaning back in shock, right hand under her chin, left across her gut as she slips and rolls hurt at the bell. Spirited first to Carpenter.

R2: Jessica gets smart, opens up the canvas a little, challenging Charisma's legs. CC still mobile, but this is more to Jessica's liking - Biel able to wheel to her left, tart Charisma up the flicking jab, time her for slicing rights off the shoulder. Biel with a nice way of darting in the right, then sidestepping around Carpenter's right shoulder, neatly turning the brunette midring. CC's output drops - she's jabbing to chest, hooking hard to gut when she gets her spots.

R3: Jessica using her legs, owning the canvas - she's got Carpenter chasing. Biel able to choose ground, wait for CC to arrive, then beat her to punches - Jess threading the right hand in and around Carpenter's guard, hooking the waist with authority, sidestepping prettily to avoid lengthy exchanges on the inside. Carpenter having moments - making contact with her jab, but she's getting outworked - Biel's dictating the pace. Midway through, Jess shakes Charisma up a gliding right hand over Carpenter's low left, followed up by a slicing flurry of tidy lefts and chopping rights, sending CC sputtering hurt to the ropes.

R4,5: Biel imposing her will, takes charge of center ring, systematically dominating the older girl these rounds. Biel circling, positioning Charisma with the jab, then getting off in relaxed combinations. Swinging hook up top, short right hand on the mouth, tidy hook in the ribs. Brisk hook rightside ribs, hook again to rib, right hand between the mitts and left uppercut. Step-in right/left tidy on the gut - CC leaning forward, momentarily shook: tidy left uppercut on the mouth to pop her head up. Most demoralizing for Charisma are the moments when Biel chooses to shoulder up and work on the inside - Biel nice and snug, shrugging short hooks over and over against Carpenter's juicy melons. Jug mugging makes the point: Biel's the boss and loving it through 5.

R6,7: Cue comeback! Fight slipping away, Charisma steps up the pace, cuts off the ring, engages Biel in more mouth-on-shoulder trading sessions and gets the better of it. Payback to jug - Carpenter shouldering her girl to the ropes, then going to the offending bra with tidy, rising digs with both hands, working Biel over good and forcing the fight's first clinches. CC not bra-happy - she's hooking liver and tummy, chopping cheek with close right hands, swatting and clubbing Biel in lock-step fighting all over the ring. Biel not shutout, not even realizing that she's losing these rounds - getting a little too caught up in being body-to-body with Charisma, sort of lulled by the veteran's steady work in there.

R8: Jessica halts the rally - big time. First minute, Biel undresses the older woman with dazzling stick and move, gliding around the ring, jabbing, dropping right hands - Charisma astonished as the lumps pile up on her available face. Midway through, Biel works in and out on Charisma, edging close enough to whack that tiring midsection thick doubled-up hooks, then pivoting out to the side - Carpenter visibly breaking down. In: Biel lands a chopping lead right hand upside the head, stays on her front foot to hook the midsection, then leans onto her back foot to tug at Charisma's chin a rising hook. No one punch doing it, but the sharp, shattering connects have Carpenter reeling, no longer effectively defending herself. Big brown eyes watery as CC finishes up hurt in the ropes, leaning forward, taking a brutal beatdown head and body at the bell. Biel all smiles as she hops away from trembling prey - 10-8 Jessica without the knockdown as Carpenter sits numb on her stool.

R9: Jessica comes out to finish this thing, wanders blindly into Stalingrad. Carpenter fading to the ropes, right hand at her cheek, left across her gut, showing the left shoulder to Jess - body language says "I'm hurt, please make this quick" but when Biel closes, Carpenter puts on a counterpunching CLINIC off the strands. Time and again, Jess gets off strong to the body: blocked, Carpenter's nifty-quick hands sample gut, chin, then she's relaxed and ready against the ropes, set to roll and counter. Biel grimly setting herself and going at Carpenter, getting loud contact on the flanks and arms, but not penetrating - CC's picking her apart, getting the clipping little right uppercut, swat-chopping little hooks body and jaw. Midway through, gorgeous series of tucking left hooks dig Biel's body, work up torso to her bra, then lift her chin - Biel put wobbly butt, swaying, stepping to her right and TAKING A KNEE! CC lifts her mitts all sweaty and triumphant, strutting away - Biel woozy, shaking her head - she takes a busted-up 8! ON COMES CHARISMA! AND BIEL RALLIES! Insane trade ERUPTS as Biel fights desperately off the ropes - girls strapping outrageous rights and lefts to skulls and chins - crowd roaring to it's feet at the blistering, jiggling free-for-all - both getting tagged, legs a-tremble and CHARISMA BUCKLES! Torrid pace too much - brunette staggers away at last, eyes forlorn - Biel bodying Charisma into the ropes at the bell. Tortured, grimy clinching, both women exhausted, out on their feet, but trying mindlessly to wrestle the other back - ref has to intervene. Reporters scribble 'round of the year' in notebooks ringside.

R10: Glorious ninth a young woman's round - Charisma all used up, sags to the ropes and sets her sights firmly on going the distance. Biel more cautious, patient this time - probing CC's belly the jab, pawing at the defences upstairs, then placing sweeping right hands head or midsection. This time, Jessica's landing, hurting Carpenter - CC wincing, sliding to her right along the ropes, trying to counter, but pulling the trigger late - Biel's picking her apart. Jessica not doing enough to get Carpenter out of there, but she's putting a punctuation mark on the fight at least - CC never gets her back off the ropes, doesn't do much offensively as Biel stays outside, potshots for points. Comes back UD10 Jessica Biel.

After: Mutual respect after the fight - girls exchange perfunctory hug in acknowledgement of a hard WB-style dime. "That was exactly what I needed," says an unexpectedly upbeat Carpenter in post fight. "I really felt I shook the remaining rust in this fight. I wasn't supposed to go the distance - Jessica's too young, Jessica's too fast, too strong - but I really shook her up and took her deep. I think I'm right where I want to be now and there's more Charisma Carpenter to come." Biel also buoyed by the performance - Carpenter a tough cookie, refusing to go out, but she got savagely strafed at times by Jessica - Biel showing her promising 2003 campaign no fluke with this performance.
