Sim's results/overview, my detailed write-up.

BEFORE THE FIGHT:

Beautiful Maria always considered a fighter with potential, but she’s never been able to turn her athleticism and talent into long-term boxing success. Recently signed by a management, she’s hoping to finally make a splash in the lightweight ranks now that she’s got backing and support. Maria lost to Charlize Theron, although somewhat competitively, last year, and to newcomer Moon Bloodgood, but she’s now on a three-fight winning streak that includes Latina hottie Sofia Vergara and talented Jill Wagner.

Righetti fresh off a hurtful shattering KO by Kristanna Loken, and endangered by a rebellion of sorts in her own training groups, looks elsewhere to motivate herself and do some power punching against a valuable but hardly considered equal opponent. Maria knows she’s the underdog but optimistically tells the press, ‘Amanda thinks she can bully me, but she’s dead wrong. I mean, I’m less of an underdog than Sarah Lancaster was, and I think that proved Righetti’s really just a bubble of rumours and supposed power that’s totally unsubstantiated. I think she’s actually quite easy to knock out.’ The Lancaster reference always works to get Righetti fuming but she stays collected. ‘I never fight women who I don’t think are competitive with me. I don’t underrate Maria the slightest bit. But let’s be serious, guys – there’s no way her body’s built to take the kind of punishment I will give her. No playing around: that girl doesn’t last ten rounds with me.’, Righetti hard-eyed and professionally proclaims.

Fight takes place at welterweight – Maria scrambling everything together to make a toned, lean 130 – Righetti noticeably heavier (see pics)

R1: Righetti marches forward, using her jab to drive Maria back and around. Menounos confused, startled by the power… feels this is the heaviest jab she’s ever met in her career. Poked hard in her face several times, groaning, Menounos slowly more comfortable as the round goes on. She’s firming, trying and succeeding to deal with Amanda’s power. One minute in – Menounos won’t back down any longer, she’s punching back! Thunder-hook brushing Amanda’s face, she’s stepping to the side, distraught. Righetti trying to get big on Menounos, marches back on. Maria punches strong, doesn’t let herself get swarmed, overwhelmed. Righetti not hurt by any hooks, but it’s not as easy as the first seconds made her think. Maria now comfortable trading punches with Amanda, slugs her several times late… she’s competitive toe-to-toe at the bell.

R2: Righetti forward behind her jab, overpowering Maria, invades her territory, enforcing ring generalship, trying to use her foe up methodically. Menounos agile, leggy, not afraid to hit back. Clipping Amanda’s chin, she fights her off-stance, not allowing Righetti to dominate the way she wants. Righetti in control throughout the round with her pumping jab, but Maria defiant, always exchanging hard hooks. A few right hands find Amanda’s face, visibly rocking her. Late in the round, another reckless brawling on closed quarters ensues. Amanda brushes Maria’s chin with her left but gets tugged hard into her tummy. Beating Amanda to punches Maria pops her a sweet jab from the side, loosens up her guard. Maria rocks her again, then smashes her right forward. Evading the punch, Righetti walks right into Maria’s jab. Her head tilts to the side, her arms react too late and Maria’s right catches her in full force. In wide-eyed shock, Righetti wobbly, stumbles forward and sags to her knees. Big smile Menounos, as Righetti gets up quickly. Bell prevents Maria from following up, but Amanda walks back to her corner confused that Maria had the power to derail her. Menounos upbeat, hopeful, confident after realizing she may be strong enough to take the initiative.

R3: Girls exchange hard punches, competitive brawling in the middle of the ring, Maria not letting Amanda lead by aggression. Menounos not reluctant to all-out slug with Amanda, catching her several jabs, roughing her up. Righetti surprised at the resistance here, but the crowd’s loving it as Maria pours jabs in Amanda’s face, buckling her knees at one point. Righetti has to work hard to hold her ground while Maria tries to march her to the ropes, forcing the redhead to use all her weight to prevent it. Girls switch initiatives, exchanging sequences and Maria’s not backing down one bit. Middle of the round – Menounos is feeling the heat. Her output drops as Amanda’s body mass behind her punches is showing effects. Righetti hooks her jugs, driving Maria backwards. Confused Greek catches a sidearm right to her flank, gets hooked and chopped by Righetti. Menounos wobbly in the last minute, not much coming back, exhausted by the power that Amanda’s digging into her body. Maria grimacing from clubbing lefts and rights. Thighs trembling, we see Maria helplessly beaten down. Brawny right finally finds Maria and sprawls her DOWN ON ALL FOURS. Swaying, she takes a woozy 7, shattered by the blast, tiring at the bell. Righetti is clearly combat-signed, but now smiling. Maria’s corner wants her more defensive, more clinching.

R4: Maria’s hurt, but bravely forward…you’ve got to like her courage here, as she gives Righetti all she’s got to the crowd’s roars. Wild swinging by both, but Menounos is getting shabbier as she chooses to slug it out with the redhead. Maria recklessly forward, but Amanda takes the battle one punch by one, taking command again. Maria still shooting back hooks, hoping for luck as her arms get weary and her eyes tired. Menounos almost foolishly still going forward, walking into Amanda’s clobbering punches. Hammering right hands have Maria cringing, driven backwards groaning. Righetti just whacking her girl heavy and hard now from all sides but Maria still FIRES BACK shots. Maria sobbing, blubbering, taking enormous punishment but STILL punching when a powerful right swivels her head, and SHE’S STOPPED. Righetti catches her right on the chin, Menounos freezing in mid-air and collapsing down on the spot, lies a KO’d ruin near the ropes, mouth open, stretched out, head lolling over to the side… that’s a KO4 Amanda Righetti!

After: Menounos takes a LONG time to get up, all down and out by the power behind the punch. Righetti struts leggily around her, but there are no hard feelings, no post-fight shenanigans. Maria noted for her courage tonight, trying to go body-to-body, although it didn’t pay off. Amanda praises Maria’s unexpected power and courage, ‘The girl does have potential, just not against me, you know.’ Commentators wonder how Maria may have fared better if she had tried to be more technical, more controlled, but she’s given the fans an entertaining fight.
