Before: Cordial prefight - Gretchen taking time to shake hands and chat with Krusher dignitaries: Mol a long time sparring-partner for various Krusher beauties, knows most everybody on a first name basis. "I'm a lightweight," Gretchen says at the podium, "I'm boiling down to 120 for this fight, but I feel I'm the bigger girl, and of course my height is going to give Jewel problems. I've felt her punch before, and it's heavy: I'm gonna box her, be aggressive with her and take minutes off her. Obviously the more exchanges we get into, the better off she'll be - so I'll definitely be looking to pick her apart from outside." Kilcher in agreement as far as projecting fight-geometry goes. "Gretch is a classy package," Jewel relates. "We bring her in for speed rounds against Charlize, Kath and the rest - and I know she's cute and clever in there. If you see me out on the end of her jab, chances are I'll be losing the round, so I can't let her breathe. I want to be in tight, fighting off her chest, and crushing her confidence as soon as I can." Mol in baby blue cross-you-heart bikini top, navy bottoms; white gloves; pretty blonde bob. Jewel in pink bandeau top with white polka dots; solid pink bottoms; white gloves; hair pulled back in slick puncher's bun at base of her skull.

During R1: Jewel encroaching behind 'frame' guard: right cupping her temple, left at her mouth, elbows in, chin tucked - showing a thrusting jab straight out of the armadillo's shell. Mol leggy outside, eyes narrowed: wide stance as she lopes to either side; stiff jab straight off her shoulder, tapping at gates of Jewel's defensive front. Jewel patient - blocking poke on her gloves: she's just taking a look-see, feeling Mol's pop. Gretchen mobile, getting off, working for the points despite not landing anything threatening.

R2: First minute: Jewel more active - pulsing the jab as she steps in, thumping at Mol's chest. Second minute - Kilcher in range for howitzer right hands: short, blunt blows over the top - catching Mol's chin. Gretch withstands a few such knocks - loosening badly with each connect: finally she wobbles away, sinks to right knee all dewy-eyed. Down the stretch, Kilcher pressing Mol hard along ropes - Gretchen sliding to her right. Step-in, wide hook from Jewel punches Mol flush to face - knocking taller blonde's head over top rope, then spilling her to all fours as she bounces forward. Kilcher smiling en route to neutral corner, mitts together at her chest as she struts it up.

R3: Mol regroups well - determined to shake the sparring-partner label. More straight, long poke as Mol's tasty-legging it around Jewel: jabs blocked by Jewel's frame defence, but keeping her at arm's length. Gretchen changing distance subtly: she'll drop her back (right) foot back, then push off it to surprise Jewel with straight right hands. Some of these are getting through, smiting Kilcher's face before she can close up her guard. Mol moving after contact, continually turning Jewel, keeping the fight midring in a good bounce-back 3rd for Gretchen.

R4: Jewel diligent, working hard, disciplined. She's stepping in that heavy poke, thumping it to Mol's modest chest to locate her. Short, chopping overhand rights follow when Jewel's in range; vicious, rib-rattling hooks bash at Mol's right flank. Jewel's hook no joke: she's coming in off right hands, popping hips-right, dragging that muscular left in with hefty thump: crowd groaning in sympathy as Gretchen absorbs with face buried in her hands, stooping forward to take.

R5: Mol answers. Jab is pesky, long - Jewel can block it, but she's having trouble passing it or countering it. Gretchen setting up her straight right with that cute little fade-step back to lure Jewel in, then pre-empt her: Mol showing beguiling skill in vexing strong-bodied Jewel. Mostly head-hunting from Gretch: she rarely lets herself get close enough to work the body in earnest. Kilcher's blocking defence fairly effective as a result, picking off shots on her arms, gloves and shoulders while following Mol around.

R6: Mol stays at it - sidestepping Jewel, turning her, fading her. Gretch pumping straight, poking one-twos at Jewel's defensive front: Kilcher blocking, but still having difficulty transitioning to offense. Midway through, Mol's consistent effort pays off: she's able to wedge a right uppercut in between Jewel's mitts, startling Kilcher to chin, backing the singer up for the first time tonight. Wide hook, Mol - smiting Kilcher's ear; right foot drops back; stiff straight right jackhammers out as Gretch looks to hurt her foe. Jewel catching a flush right hand on her teeth: knees give a shimmy, but she takes it well, covering up, crouching forward as Gretchen sidesteps to safety rather than piling on with vigorous follow-up.

R7: Jewel's stubby jab bedeviling taller beauty: Kilcher able to work her way close, then get off blunt with short, clubbing lefts and rights. Mol catching clout about head and shoulders, backing away haggard and worried: Jewel's walking her down. Kilcher owning Gretchen at the ropes over latter half of round: punishing Mol's defenses upstairs, then twisting into those savage, fight-winning hooks to waist and ribs. Gretchen grunting, muffling her cries in her gloves as she stoops forward behind her mitts, clearly wearing down to the body through 7.

R8: Jewel having an easier time negotiating distance: Mol's legs not so fresh, jab not so perky as Kilcher works her way in close. Most of the 8th fought with Mol against ropes, legs spread in A frame as she cups hands around Jewel's head, trying to hold her close. Kilcher just being bossy in there - pushing her head between Mol's hands, beating the Mol midsection, bashing the Mol flanks. Jewel on top, pushing Mol's wrists down, then clubbing at her chest and head: classic Kilcher beat down technique as grimacing Gretchen can't get Krusher off her chest. Bell: Jewel pushing up off Mol, turning briskly away, walking rapidly to her corner. Mol mouthbreathing, shopworn - clearly breaking down now.

R9: Jewel imposes will. Shorter woman jabs taller to ropes, then leans in close with her head: Mol resigned to it, her hands cupping Jewel's ears, trying to pull her into clinches. Kilcher fighting off the chest, arms writhing to push at Gretchen, pull her hands down. Mol slumping, mouthbreathing as she tilts forward: she's catching constant clout now - short, bludgeoning blows upside her head; thumping bumps in her lungs; strapping, gorgeous hooks in behind her right elbow. Jewel working steadily, never rushing: Mol can't push her off, hold her, or hurt her. Bell to bell Jewel, staying on top, using her girl up via toe-to-toe attrition.

R10: Mol fighting off the ropes, shows grit: unpacks the uppercut to some effect, scoring with it as Jewel's leaning forward. Not enough on Gretchen's punching to discourage Kilcher at this point - Jewel maintains position, head on Mol's chest, fists pummeling her at close quarters. Steady, clubbing pace punctuated by those heartstopping hooks in the body: Gretchen sobbing out, cringing forward when smote to her ribs - she's doing well to keep her feet here. Goes to bell: Jewel immediately laying up and giving Gretchen an appreciative hug. UD10 Jewel Kilcher in workmanlike fashion.

After: Mol using her height well early, but Jewel too strong: thudding Alaskan power proves decisive as one by one, Gretchen's options were stripped away from her. "I knew Gretchen would go rounds," Jewel says in postfight, "I knew it. She's got heart - not particularly strong, but she doesn't quit, and she got my attention once or twice in this fight. She looked a little drained at bantam - I think if she gets fights at light, Gretchen could kick a little butt. I tell you what - she fights Angie Harmon or this Winstead chick, Gretchen will beat their butts, mark my words."
