Boxing After Dark

Before: Jane’s a late sub, saves the Boxing after dark headline bout by stepping in against Kilcher on 1 week’s notice. Krakowski with a lot of losses on an indifferent record, but almost all her defeats have been to world class opposition--she’s never had a promoter, and hasn’t fought a protected bout in her whole career. Kilcher in light blue adidas terrycloth trunks, white sports bra, Jane in red sports bra, white adidas trunks.

During r1: Jane sets the tone early, stepping inside with Jewel, tieing up the singer’s right hand, and slugging away with a curling right to the chest. Krakowski with nice mechanics on her combinations, bending to the left to rip left hooks, bending to the right to rip uppercuts, and tieing Kilcher up for a little walk to keep Jewel from setting her feet.

R2: Jane continues to show well, fighting off Jewel’s chest, putting punches together, and smothering Kilcher with clinches for a break. Jewel laying in with Jane, taking punches, but not apparently hurt, simply can’t land more than one at a time.

R3: Jane with a nice shutout, outworking singer inside with crisp hard punching. Jane one of those who likes to constantly feel her opponent--she’ll punch Jewel in the stomach with a left hook, then tap the tummy with the left just before driving the right hand. Then, she’ll touch Jewel’s guard with the right forearm before clubbing her upstairs with the left hooks. Jewel under constant pressure, and beginning to puff up around the cheeks.

R4: Jane with another shutout, simply beating the tar out of Jewel with thumping body shorts, then rocking the singer back with the short right uppercut inside, Kilcher continuing to square up, but Jane an expert with the clinch, dictating the terms of this fight with depressing ease.

R5: Jewel getting some work done early, but Krakowski rolling with punches, turning her shoulder to deflect Jewel’s right hand, then coming back hard with a slinging sidearm right to the sternum. Jane working with a little smile on her thin lips, bodying Jewel onto the ropes, working over the flanks of the blonde, then in through the middle with short, digging strokes, then up between the mitts with the uppercuts. Jane using her shoulder to nudge jewel into the ropes before pounding her.

R6 Kilcher starting to wear down, and she gets careless this round. Desperate to land her right hand, Jewel overcommits as Jane turns and slips beneath, then comes back with a crushing right uppercut on the face that knocks Jane’s head back. Split second passes as Jane watches while Jewel sways, then takes a knee--Krakowski  graciously passing up the chance to hit her while down. Kilcher up at 8, but she’s completely broken down, and Jane pours it on, pounding the his and breasts with her insidious combinations. At the bell, a hollow-eyed Jewel staggers to her corner for some work.

R7: Jane gets back on Jewel, cheek to cheek with the singer, pulling back to rip those mean left hooks or clipping uppercuts. Kilcher’s head on a swivel, getting glassy-eyed as Jane works non-stop. Stepping to the tight, Jane doubles the hook, pounding Jewel’s face back, and sending her to the ropes. Midway through the round, Jane curls her right hand over Jewel’s shoulder to smack her cheek, then loops the tight up underneath to land the quick uppercut, and Jewel wobbles to all fours. Jewel’s lovely face starting to get pancaked, but she gamely comes off the canvas to back Jane up with right hands to the chest at the bell.

R8: Jewel shows she’s for real with a gritty come-and-get it round. Marching on Krakowski, Jewel sets down a short right hands up the middle, banging through Krakowski’s guard and pushing her the length of the ring. Along the ropes, Jewel steps with the wily blonde, pounding sidearm lefts and rights into Jane’s belly, then leaning on Krakowski to tire her spirit.

R9: Kilcher still on the warpath, blunders forward with a well-timed lead right on the teeth as she loads up her own cannon. Kilcher momentarily stunned, wobbles to all fours for another knockdown, and looks a shot fighter when she rises. Krakowski bodying up again, letting her hands play across Jewel’s tummy, while leaning in with the exhausted singer. Jrwel out on her feet at the bell, wanders to the wrong corner at the break.

R10: Toe to toe action as Jane goes for the knockdown early. Jewel walking through stupefying right uppercuts as Jane steps right, lading Jewel forward into punishment, but Krakowski can’t put her down. Kilcher finally squares up, and the girls trade right hands--Krakowski’s thighs trembling upon impact and SHE wobbles back. Jewel stepping in, bends into that home-run right hand, clubbing Krakowski’s face back, and Jane crashes to her backside, tolling onto her elbows with a look of sheer disbelief. Jewel wobbling herself gets as much of a break as Jane from the 8 count, then wades back in to bludgeon the dancer for the final minute. Jewel with a shoulder in Jane’s chest, just slugging on instinct, takes the final round with distinction. The decision however is a wildly one-sided one for Jane Krakowski.

After: Swollen-eyed Jewel lifts Jane’s hand herself, and gives Krakow ski a big hug after the decision. Acknowledging Jane’s tremendous effort in this fight. Great learning experience for Kilcher who picked up more from this fight than all her one-punch KO victories combined. A star is born in Krakowski. As national television gets a rare glimpse of one of Tinseltown’s best kept back lot secrets.
