Whitney Cummings
(37 / 5’11” / 1:1 FCBA / The Comediennes)

Cobie Smulders
(38 / 5’8” / 6:26 FCBA / Free Agent)

Results: Lookout! / Story: The Comediennes

Pre-fight:

“Oh yeah, I’ve been gone a longgg time,” says Whitney. “Has Cobie even managed to get a win in the time I’ve been gone? Yeesh, look at that record. I guess playing a badass in the movies doesn’t come with free fight training.”

“Whitney who?” asks Cobie. “I seriously have never heard of her before. Apparently she’s some comedian or something. I don’t know. But have you seen that face of hers? I’m almost afraid to punch it. All the plastic might slice into my gloves. Guess I’ll just have to suck it up and beat her down anyway.”

R1: The bell rings and the two fighters meet each other in the middle of the ring. It’s been a while since Whitney fought and it shows. Despite having the range, she’s not doing enough to keep Cobie away from her. Cobie ducks a jab hear, side-steps there, and then comes back in with two straight jabs to Whitney’s jaw.

Whitney’s head snaps back as she throws a jab back to try to keep Cobie off of her. It works, but only for a little as Cobie starts gunning more and more jabs at Whitney. Clearly Whitney isn’t used to the speed of a real fight and is having trouble defending. She wraps up with Cobie to stall the momentum and when they break apart she sneaks a right hand into Cobie’s side. Cobie winces and takes a few steps back.

The taller girl charges in, but it’s a huge miscalculation on her part. Cobie lets her come in, eats a few grazing punches than WHAM. Snapping Whitney’s face to the side with a wicked right hook. She’s got Whitney on her heels now. Cobie comes in, pounding into Whitney’s gloves. Whitney covering up as Cobie chases her around the ring, hitting her every now and then. Doing enough to make her the clear winner of the round as the bell rings.

Smulders up 10-9.

R2: Not the start Whitney wanted, but welcome back to the FCBA. Cobie comes out aggressive this round and begins throwing some more jabs. She’s forcing the rust off of Whitney with every connection.

Whitney grabs Cobie again, holding onto her tightly as she uses her bigger frame to walk Cobie around a bit. The ref breaks it up and Cobie lands a left uppercut in on Whitney’s body. Whitney wheezes but throws a right hook that breaks past Cobie’s defenses. The two women just a few feet away from the ropes, but neither one is backing down.

They trade blows back and forth. Whitney landing with some nice right-left combos. Cobie meanwhile is nailing Whitney with a left hook on the body. The two girls are freely tossing punches back and forth and when the round ends nobody has a clear advantage.

It’s 20-19 Smulders.

R3: Cobie comes out sluggish to start the round and her punches are definitely slower. Whitney now starts to use her range and is nailing Cobie with long jabs.

Whitney’s reach does wonders as she gets Cobie to the ropes. Cobie’s defenses are down. She’s tired! That flurry at the end of round 2 has he spent! Meanwhile Whitney doesn’t have the wear and tear of years of fighting so she’s considerably fresher. She nails Cobie with a right cross. Then a left. Then another left. Then she rears back and BA-BOOM a massive right hand by Whitney and Cobie snaps down to the mat.

The ref comes in… Whitney backs into a neutral corner. Cobie tries to use the ropes to get up but can’t beat the count. Whitney wins her comeback match!

Winner: Whitney Cummings KO Round 3

Post-fight:

“I’ll admit, no amount of training or sparring really gets you prepared for the real thing,” says Whitney as she unwraps the tape from her hands. “Getting popped in the face for the first time in 8 years, it’s a different experience. But really it’s like riding a bike. As soon as I found my rhythm I slipped right back into it. Good to be back. And I guarantee Cobie knows my name now.”

“I don’t want to answer any questions,” says a dejected Cobie. She slings her bag over her shoulder and exits the room with her head down.
