Before: Opportunistic promoters bring Lively out of the woodwork for this bout in an attempt to capitalize on the “Savannah” angle. Jeanne clearly the better technician, Lively seems overmatched, perhaps even mismatched in this one, but has by all accounts been looking very good in training camps. Navy jogbra and teal adidad terrycloth trunks for Robyn, black jogbra and bred adidas for Tripplehorn.

During R1: unfolds as expected, Jeannie the aggressor, helps herself to Robyn’s eye, cheeks, mouth and stomach with pinpoint left jabs and supple combinations. Tripplehorn comfortable right in front of Lively, using her handspeed to dominate. It’s apparent that Jeannie’s left is her chocolate hand—the right remains at her cheek, chopping down in short arcs primarily to reload  the slashing left during combinations, Shutout Tripplehorn as she barely breaks a sweat on Robyn.

R2: Lively shows some backbone, coming forward, walking through the snake-like left to hammer away at the chest of her foe with both hands. Toe to toe exchanges see Jeannie retreat, circle and reset as Lively shows unexpected power. In the final minute, Robyn scores with some pounding body shots to the firm brown midsection of the brunette to take the round..

R3: Another hotly contested round as Lively proves competitive in a series of blistering exchanges. Tripplehorn’s handspeed is decisive however as she throws effortless left hooks and uppercuts off that licking jab to bruise Robyn’s face this round/

R4: Jeannie crosses Robyn up, stinging the redhead with 5 whipping left hooks to the ribs and waist to virtually cripple Lively for the rest of the round. All Tripplehorn as she dishes out a classy beating this round, smacking the body and head, stepping in and out as Lively counters tepidly, and by the final minute, cranking vicious left hooks to the head on a bid to end matters. Robyn takes two knockdowns in the final minute and looks stunned at the overall superiority of Tripplehorn this round.

R5-10: The rest of the fight is a virtual whitewash as Tripplehorn, having broken Robyn’s spirit in the fourth, spends the rest of the fight breaking down her body. Each and every round sees Jeannie completely dominate, circling g her prey, stepping to the right to fire left hooks sidearm into Robyn’s face, putting together blurring combinations. Lively, hurt in the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th rounds, is a shattered wreck by the final round. Showing foolhardy courage, Lively blunders out for the 10th and is mercifully carried by Jeannie, who posts 6th shutout round of the fight, but takes about 20% off her fastball as Lively is essentially defenseless. At the bell, Lively herself hoists Jeannie’s wrist in the air in recognition of the almost total supremacy shown by Tripplehorn over 10 heats.

After: How good is Jeannie Tripplehorn? Critics contend that she hasn’t fought anybody and that handpicked opponents have made her look awesome, but there is no denying her slick, professional look in the ring. Power is a a concern however as she caught Lively repeatedly with flush punches and couldn’t stop the game little redhead. A test against gatekeeper Courtney Thorne-Smith appears likely, and should answer many outstanding questions about the Welsh wonder.
