Gemma's first defence is against fellow blonde pocket battleship Mollie, who's love to be the second member of 'The Saturdays' girlband to take a title, emulating the bantamweight champion, Una Healy. Gemma is a little taller than Mollie, and feels she has the power to knock the younger girl out. Both girls have been beaten just once - both by Ashley Benson.

Mollie enters the ring first, in a white one piece outfit which is designed like a basque, an outfit which has many of the fans goggling, until she is joined by the buxom Gemma in a blue bra and knickers which barely conceal her assets.

Round 1

It's a cagey start from both girls in this matchup, as they probe each other in the early exchanges with their left jabs, neither girl wanting to commit too much too early. Not until the final minute is there a real commitment, when Gemma lands a three shot combination flurry in Mollie's face, then gets her to the body as well with a neat left hook to the ribs, hard enough to make the singer gasp.

Gemma wins the opening round

Round 2

Gemma starts the round in a more aggressive style, happy that she hurt Mollie in the first, and she goes after the singer in the first minute, throwing hefty hooks at the girl's face, which King is doing well to parry and avoid. Mollie's boxing starts to look a little better by the middle of the round as she connects with a couple of left jabs, but Gemma hits her in the ribcage again late on, and moves her into the ropes.

Second round to Gemma

Round 3

Mollie is already blowing hard in this fight, and she soon has Gemma giving her body some more punishment as the champion pushes the little challenger, beginning to get little flurries landing to the flanks. Mollie is forced to back up, and spends a painful time on the ropes while Gemma thumps her - she can't land anything to the singer's face, though, as young Mollie protects herself as well as she can.

Third round to Gemma

Round 4

Another round, another body beating for Mollie King to endure, as Gemma works her around the ring with those heavy left and right hooks to the ribs and gut, the singer's only defence seeming to be to crouch so as not to be open to belly shots. Still Gemma doesn't switch her attack to the head, just making a statement, weakening her opponent, ensuring she'll remember this fight for a long time. It's a sound bell to bell beating for Poor Molie, and her eyes are leaking tears at the bell.

Fourth round to Gemma

Round 5

Slower to rise, Mollie takes Gemma's first few punches to the body in her own corner, but she won't let the actress rope her immediately, and somehow finds the strength to move out of troble and snap the older girl's head back with a couple of jabs. Gemma is shocked, then takes a left, right combination to her cheeks as she fails to cover up properly, steps back, then bumps the singers tits with a callous two fisted assault, finally getting her to the ropes, but she runs out of time.

Fifth round to Gemma - but not as wide as the last couple

Round 6

Mollie has spent the break with ice packed to her aching body, but she comes out a little stronger this time, and she lands the first punches of the round, a left to Gemma's mouth and a right to her ear, making the champion defend for the first time. Backing away, Gemma gets picked off by Mollie's quick punches, and she's the girl who looks tired now - she's used a lot of effort, and still hasn't put Mollie away, but she can't believe that the singer is still able to outbox her after the battering she's taken. Understandably, Mollie can't keep it going til the bell, and she has to clinch and hang on when Gemma gets her to the ribs again late on.

Round 7

It's Mollie on top again in the opening seconds of the round, ignoring the pain to get on her toes and box Gemma as hard as she can, crisp jabs whistling into the actress's face, sometimes followed with a hook, too, and Merna looks spent at the midpoint of this round, holding onto the smaller Mollie. The referee is needed to haul Gemma away from Mollie each time she holds, with the little singer unable to push her back, and these tactics are not good from the champion, who should be looking to take Mollie out by now, and it's a disappointing close to the round for her as she tries and fails to hit Mollie.

A second round for Mollie

Round 8

Mollie is again looking the stronger girl in the early exchanges, but her problem is that she is now exchanging punches with Gemma, because the older girl has more snap in her shots, and she's working that body again, getting in tight, too, and pummelling the singer. Mollie looks disheartened, especially after that rally, and the battering her ribs take this time is very nearly enough to drop her, the bell coming as a welcome respite for her.

Gemma back in control, taking the 8th

Round 9

Mollie is finding it tough to keep her gloves up now - she's tired and weakened - and still Gemma slams away at her body, really making sure she's hurt her, pushing the kid to the ropes, the singer almost whimpering at the prospect of taking more punishment. And Gemma's looking for the knockout, now - she's got King well beaten, and she's landing those bruising punches to the singer's face, banging her head to the left and the right, annoyed that she can't quite finish her off.

Gemma's round again - Mollie's virtually out

Round 10

It's hard to believe that Mollie's made it to the final round, and Gemma immediately looks to ensure she won't survive it, banging a couple of hard shots into the body in centre-ring, bringing the singer's guard right down, then she lets her have it to the head, whipping a couple of right hooks over the top, she floors Mollie at last. King's on her feet at 8, but isn't really sure what's going on, somehow managing to clinch and waste time, finally pushed off by Gemma, who again whips those hooks into Mollie's sorry-looking face, and she floors her again - right hook again. For a second time, Mollie hauls herself up at 8, gets pushed back to the ropes and beaten - but sees it through to the bell.

Gemma Merna beat Mollie King on points to retain the BBU flyweight title

Gemma should really have had enough to stop Mollie, but the singer was very resiliant tonight, and maybe highlighted Ms Merna's shortcomings. Gemma wants a fight with Hannah Spearritt, but she'll have to improve to win that.
