Before: “There’s tremendous resentment of Virginie from a loot of girls at TU,” Reese confides in preflight. “I’m just not A-list, I’m A-PLUS list-and I couldn’t get anything going b3ecause Virginie was always at the front of the line. We’re all getting out shots at her now, and we’re making them count. Virginie’s finally taking the beatings she deserved all along, and I say it’s about damn time!” Ledoyen admittedly having a tough time of it against former TU fighters: what’s going to be different against Reese? “I’ve always been very comfortable in the boxing ring against Reese Witherspoon.” Virginie says at the podium. “That is not a knock at her--she’s a fine little Hayden Panettiere type--but I always did very against her in sparring. It’s my height, my class, my speed--Reese has always had a very difficult time finding answers against me. She has improved--she’s a very sturdy blonde,, and I do respect her--but she’s altogether not the type of girl to give me any trouble at all.” Virginie in lavender bikini; small black gloves. Reese in baby blue bikini; small white gloves.

During R1: Virginie loose, hands low, weight on her back (right) foot as she lifts left jabs off her hip to pester Reese. ‘Spoon weaving side to side, gloves at her mouth: Virginie lights her up a slick right hand off the thigh, smiting Reese between the ears; Ledoyen sliding back just out of range, lifting the left up to ward Reese off. Witherspoon weaving in again: Virginie skidding a right off blonde hairline, then clouting Reese a whippy hook while shifting weight to right (back) foot again. Ledoyen nimble as she nears ropes, sides stepping Witherspoon while swatting a wide hook; leaning back out of range as Reese turns and swings righty. Virginie keeps at it--so comfy with her range that she’s keeping her hands at her side, luring Reese in, eating her up jabs and smiting her surprising right hands off the thigh. On the few occasions when Witherspoon penetrates to chest: Virginie toes up, snuggling for ref’s breaks and smirking just a bit at Reese’s frustration. Easy breezy round--Virginie.

R2: Similar stuff: it’s a loose Virginie, weight on the right leg; slapping, backhand jabs and extended left hands to ward Reese off; pasting right hands, potshots up the middle, catching Reese’s brows. Midway through, with ‘Spoon low to get underneath Virginie’s bliows--Ledoyen deploys buggy-whip right hands thumping-loud against the Witherspoon left flank. Reese grimacing when smitten thus: Ledoyen leaning in, lashing that right hand in above left hip, then sliding out of range, walking to her right. Down the stretch, with Reese pre-occupied by Ledoyen’s vicious rights--Virginie’s able to place some bandy-armed hooks thick to paunch--arching her back to hoist ‘em in succulent, ‘Spoon grimacing at the bell--walking into some hard shots head and body; not answering much at all.

R3: Pressure from Reese early as she weaves in side to side: Ledoyen slides back, walks ‘Spoon into a clinch--tucking blonde head in under French left armpit for a loose front headlock. Ref pulling girls apart, admonishing Virginie not to hold: Ledoyen flushed, embarrassed--she’s rushing in headlong now, becoming an easier target. Ledoyen easily pasting Reese’s face that intercepting right hand, then loping back from the receipt: blonde blundering forward, coming up short. Midway through, Virginie with her hands down, lures Reese forward, feints her into covering up earmuff, then licks her a gorgeous right uppercut clean to chin. Witherspoon immediately wobbly butt, stumbling forward behind her mitts: Ledoyen sidesteps left, raises her right leg high, sweeping the back of her thigh into Reese’s back to push Witherspoon into ropes, Crowd roaring: such a supple, elegant move--not a kick exactly, just a slick, lithe nudging of the leg, curling across Reese’s back like a dance-move. Witherspoon turns at the ropes, dukes at her cheeks: Ledoyen hops forward a few steps, dragging the right hand low behind her, then whipping it around to take Reese full in the stomach. Ledoyen’s right (back) leg skids off the canvas with the violence of the delivery--pounding blast spanks out LOUD, beating a sob past Reese’s astonished lips. BLONDE GIRL DOWN! Witherspoon cringing to all fours, shuddering, gasping: she sits back on her haunches, knuckles in the canvas beside either knee, blubbering quietly as the 10 count passes her by. KO3 to the body, Virginie Ledoyen.

After: Reese HAS improved--but Ledoyen proving the rule that styles make fights: she beats her blonde like rented mule tonight. “I felt in complete control,” Ledoyen says in post fight, glowing with a virtual shutout triumph. “She’s strong, but available: it was very discouraged to her to find that I could still hit her anytime I wanted. More discouraging still to find that I could still hurt her.” Interesting sidebar: Young Adrina Patridge very vocal at ringside--shouting at and berating Virginie--trying to disrupt Ledoyen’s interviews, Patridge looking to debut right at the top, obviously.
