Before: Jeri Ryan sizes up the combatants for ESPN: “Dunning’s the bigger hitter as far as one punch power goes, but Ashley’s got what I call sneaky-power, especially to the body--plus she’s busier. I think they get to slugging, watch for Deb to get the stoppage, but if Ash can get inside, she can control Debbe and break her down. I’m looking forward to it!” Dunning one of the biggest draws in FCBA history caught in the middle of the Cat Bell controversy, but few dispute Debbe’s claim as a legitimate challenger. Judd oozing championship confidence during pre-fight, likes the look of Dunning’s shot legs and fading reflexes despite the dangerous pop left in those gloves. Debbe in purple sports bra, black boy cut trunks, hair up and messy--Judd in black sports bra, black bikini bottoms.

During R1: Dunning striding across the ring, sets up flat-footed and begins winging wrap around lefts and rights, often missing with the first punch, but nailing Judd hard with the follow up sweep to buffet the blonde around the ring. Ashley judging range better as the round goes on, begins to time Dunning’s swiping b lows, rocking back out of range, then dipping in to bounce sharp shooter lead rights off the taller girl’s ribcage. Good fast paced first goes to Dunning, but both girls are into it early.

R2: Dunning striding in again, chin up, hands slashing back and forth as she twists into haymakers--Judd eagerly assessing the counter punching opportunities as she stays low, making Debbe miss, After a minute of sailing Dunning leather, Ashley works her way in and starts trading furiously--hammer and tongs midring as both girls let their hands go--wild exchange of right hands and JUDD GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Ashley swooning off a CRASHING right hand upside her head, is in deep trouble as Dunning hops in to finish,. Debbe D loading up, getting her slender hips into sweeping lefts and rights out wide--Judd busted up and trying to roll with the incoming. Ashley doing a good job of blunting the attack, but at the end of the second minute, she launches a left hook, and gets caught a clapping left hook on the button. Judd’s mouthpiece flapping 3 feet in the air as she goes out, body stiffening up--she crashes flat out to her back. Debbe Dunning lifts her mitts and nods in triumph--KO2 and NEW lightweight champ Debbe Dunning.

After: Nasty, brutish and short--Dunning sensing the longer this fight went, the better Judd would like it, started swinging for the fences and never let up. “I knew I’d walk right through her,” claims a chirpy Dunning in post fight, “Ashley’s a blown-up bantam and I’ve rocked welterweights in the past so I figured she’s go early. Honestly, I don’t see it--I’ve fought ‘em all and Ashley’s an average blonde.” Ouch! Dunning retaking the throne after a long absence, looked as good as she has in years--Judd not getting the opportunity to work those long legs and expose the veteran slugger down the stretch.
