Up until now, Debrah’s been nearly flawless in her cougar-comeback—beating the like of Ledford and Delany with style, elegance and poise in largely bloodless technical masterpieces. Against the sportier-built, quicker-mitted Loughlin—Farentino would lose the effortless aplomb, forced at last to bare her feet and brawl with heart on her sleeve in a fight that probably deserves (but won’t receive Fight of the Year consideration.

Loughlin’s handspeed was immediately decisive as she posted a shutout R1 and proved she could land hooks to the chin and ribs of he stately foe. Farentino took the blows, but was clearly rattled: Loughlin had been able to get Debrah out of her stance and make Farentino look distinctly uncomfortable in early going.

From then on, Farentino would look to drive right hands up the middle off her jab, leaning in and committing to power punches more than she had in any of her recent bouts. Loughlin in her closed stance would roll shots with her lead left shoulder and lick back with snappy hooks and crosses in combination, pelting the taller beauty with startling bite on the punches.

Farentino’s steadfast commitment t hard punching paid early dividends as Loughlin was rocked time and again in the first half—finally going down in the fourth to a steady stream of one-twos from a seething Debrah. But the effort had proved to expense—exhausted, Farentino began the fifth in oxygen debt, with Loughlin still an effective force and looking for payback. Double L would achieve her comeback with authority, dropping Debrah twice in the fifth and pressing hard in the sixth to force Farent5ino to the corners and ropes of the ring. This was a desperate , hurt, busted up Debrah Farentino—fighting a raw, clawing style of boxing we haven’t seen from her before. Lori’s speed and tenacity showed us another side of Debrah as Farentino scrubbed and shoeshined with her back to the ropes ir turnbuckles, determined to deny Lori satisfaction.

The final two rounds were decisively Lori’s—she was the fresher, stronger vixen, and her fists took a terrible toll as poor Debrah wilted against the ropes. But Farentino refused to succumb, proving that “cougar” is most definitely not synonymous with “quit”. Farentino was brutally beaten against the ropes, but though battered, she simply would not bow to her tormentress. Debbie’s pride saw her through to the final bell and kept her streak intact as she avoided losing for yet another night.
