Before: "At TU, we used to use Rachel for spot sparring," Virginie explains. "I'd generally go three hard rounds with Naomi - use her completely up - then we'd bring in Rachel so I'd have fresh work while Watts got her legs back. Then, after the day's work was done - Rachel would usually clean up the corners, gather the laundry and so on. I never really gave her much thought: very cute girl; not on my level as a fighter." Cook steaming: it's all coming back to her why she hates Virginie in the first place. "What she just told you guys?" Rachel says at the podium. "Total crap. I sparred hard at TU - with Naomi and Virginie both - and I kicked all kinds of butt in those sessions. But when the fight assignments came around - Virginie's envelope was always full, and mine was always empty. All my hard work was wasted at TU, and I've never forgotten that. Virginie's got a beating coming because she deserves it for being so pampered for so long." Virginie in electric blue fighting bikini; cropped mauve top with baby doll sleeves, showy neck line (you can see her bright blue bikini straps), bare midriff. Rachel's more womanly about the hips and thighs than we've seen - looking much sturdier - probably comes into the ring over 110 after having made the flyweight limit a few days before. Black crop top with baby doll sleeves, showy front, bare midriff - over top yellow bikini; white gloves. Ledoyen very smug as girls touch 'em up: attitude alone enough to infuriate Rachel.

During R1: Ledoyen pushed to ropes early - covered up earmuff: Rachel's working her over. Cook busy on Virginie - tearing up that paunch with short, pumping lefts and rights; hooking those breasts; reaching in to squirm and push with Virginie, keeping her pinned down. Cook beating Virginie's biceps with flat-knuckle wiping impacts - pounding away with side to side wallop. Ledoyen grimacing - trying to push Cook off, but getting stacked up and beaten for her troubles: Rachel's stamping legs very stocky, very sturdy, holding Virginie in place for her punishment. Bell: big smile Cook as she scrubs 'Ginie for the shutout; Ledoyen scowling, disheveled en route to her corner.

R2: Starts in Ledoyen's body - Rachel crouching, jamming in straight lefts and rights with palm-down delivery - just a-stampin' leather to meat. Ledoyen butt-in-ropes, gurgling under the body shock: once again she's covered up earmuff, suffering, and not doing much. Cook scoring, beating the body, reaching in to stack up, then getting busy again: Rachel smothering and pummelling in equal measure. Late the round, Virginie starts to slug back - right uppercut finding Rachel's sternum; tasty left hook locating Cook's chin.

R3: Ledoyen stabilizes her front. Job 1: take and hold midring; Ledoyen spritzing a heavy jab while pivoting left, keeping Cook at arm's length. Job 2: make Cook pay for trips inside; Virginie triggering pre-emptive right hands to Rachel's face, then sidestepping before Cook can body up. Job 3: move feet; Ledoyen turning Rachel, circling her, keeping back free of ropes and chest free of Rachel. Easy breezy shutout Virginie Ledoyen, sending Rachel to her corner in a funk.

R4: Hard two way fighting - girls taking turns punishing. Cook staying low, covering up and crouching - she's riding out Ledoyen strafing runs, then answering back with short, clubbing swipes, buffetting Virginie's head and breasts. Virginie having trouble penetrating the shell - she's extending on jabs, punching Cook's guard and shoulders - backing up to maintain distance. Fight eventually drifts to ropes - Rachel muscling Virginie's back to cables as the girls clinch up top: Cook placing a nice dirty-boxing shoulder bump in Virginie's mouth as ref's on the other side, oblivious. Rachel on top, smothering and pummelling: it ain't pretty, but it's taking minutes and points from Virginie.

R5: Crowd pleasing back and forth: both girls getting busy. Ledoyen falling in with Rachel - French vixen getting a little slug happy, willing to bump heads and shoulders while digging and clipping away in close. Rachel nice and compact, bouncing her mitts off Virginie's head and breasts, working her tummy and flanks, reaching in to squirm and wrestle. Virginie frowning with effort - uppercut becoming very useful, picking up Rachel's chin with either hand. Close hard fought heat - but Cook outworking Virginie in the closest of quarters.

R6: More slam bang action fighting, punctuated by moments of tummy-to-tummy struggling as girls push and pull in tight clinches. Virginie refuses to back out of range - grinding away inside, shrugging short shots into Rache. Cook had opened up a big body-shot gap on Virginie: Ledoyen answering with vigour, finally outhitting Rache and sampling a little jug for good measure. Noggin's rubbing, shoulders bumping, fists pumping - Ledoyen generally able to back Rachael up in a series of expensive exchanges all around the ring. Trainer visibly frustrated with willful French vixen during the break - demanding that she box Rachael to ribbons.

R7: Virginie willing to jab a bit, but only to win initiative: she moves back inside and starts shrug-slugging afresh. Intensity ratcheting up - much harder connects scored by both women as Ledoyen once again begins to impose will. Cook's back eventually hits ropes - she covers up earmuff: Ledoyen splits the guard with a shrugging right/left uppercut combo. RACHAEL'S HURT! Cook's butt slumps on ropes - she's paralyzed, staring back at Virginie: Virginie keeps chugging uppercuts - both hands - short n' clippy to chin. Cook's legs give way - she swoons forward - barely managing to clinch around Virginie's hips and buttocks. Ledoyen slamming away hammer-fists to Rachael's lower back as ref's moving it to break it up. Cook in stupor, lolling against ropes: Virginie wades in, trades chopping little rights as Rachael punches-with. Tie up - girls squirming and pushing: Cook able to walk off the ropes, struggling with Virginie. Rache yanks her right hand free - uppercuts it to Virginie's chin: short, jolting shot picks Ledoyen up hard. Rache doubling up the right hand - chopping it overhand to Virginie's jaw in close: LEDOYEN'S HURT! Virginie now trying to clinch, legs rubbery beneath her: Cook wrestles swooning French woman into ropes - ref moves in at bell as girls struggle in mutual embrace. Whew!

R8: Face on face slugging - Ledoyen too banged up to box, electing to finish Rachael on her own turf. Girls rubbing shoulders and foreheads, erupting with bursts of punches to one another's tummies; jerking sudden uppercuts into overhanging chins. Punch for punch, it's Rachael: slowly but surely, she's damaging Virginie, rocking her with clean shots, outworking her with volume. Fight goes to ropes - Rachael on top: she squares away, has a good scrubbing go at wilting Virginie as Ledoyen sits on the strands and soaks, face in gloves. Rache salts away the round with a series of jamming right hands to Ledoyen's left breast - wedging the punch in past Virginie's left forearm and inside the left shoulder as she's covering her face.

R9: Rachael busier, hustling Virginie to ropes, smothering and bullying well - but Ledoyen answers all with a furious right uppercut midway through, momentarily stunning Cook. Rachael helpless, battered into the ropes by a vengeful Ledoyen as Cook covers up, stoops forward behind her mitts. Virginie too exhausted to close the show - she runs out of gas, laying in and embracing Rachael. Cook able to finish strong, tucking sleepy rights and lefts into Ledoyen's tummy as French girl's tying up high on Rache.

R10: Both fighters achy, rising wearily from stools, but trudging in to finish. Ledoyen showing a little in-out footwork on Rache: just changing up distance, stitching in one-twos and getting out of range of the receipt. Minute mark: Ledoyen wrong-foots Rache - steps in to carom a right hand off Rachael's left temple: COOK'S LEGS GO HAYWIRE! Rache staggering away, eyes forlorn: Ledoyen hopping-to, feinting the right, then bringing the supple left hook instead and DOWN GOES COOK! Rache smashed on her face - dropped heavily to her back off the single clean hook: Virginie screams "OUI!" at the sight of sprawling Cook. Rachael blubbering - getting to her feet, then staggering sideways to ropes and nearly falling again: ref gives her 8, waves Ledoyen in. Big breath Virginie - she wades in, BEATING Rachael a hateful right/left roundhouse series to waist: Rachael crying out, pitching forward behind her mitts. OH THE BEATDOWN! Ledoyen lashing away at Rachael's exposed back as the crippled former laundress doubles forward. It's all Virginie - Virginie lathering - Virginie wailing and RACHAEL DOESN'T GO DOWN! Cook somehow keeps her feet - Ledoyen still pasting her lumbar as ref moves in to body her off. Comes back UD10 Rachael Leigh Cook!

After: Ledoyen pissed - crying out "NON!" and stamping a foot - pouty breasts flouncing unhappily in her top as she storms away from the ref and Rachael while Cook's hand is raised. RLC shuddering as she breaks down into tears: beating Virginie a career highlight for the well-travelled brunette. "I know her game pretty well," Rachael confides in her in-ring postfight, once she's composed herself. "I know the rhythm and pace she likes to fight at - little things like that - and that really helped me to pull her off her game. I knew she'd want to slug with me when I jumped her early: I hurt her, and her pride made her do some stupid things to get even with me." Rachael, Rachael - what's next? "At 110, I don't know. I'd love a shot at Natalie Portman and Mish Williams again - I think I'm punching hard enough to get Mishy's respect now, and Natalie's got nothing that can hurt me. Some people think Lacey Chabert's as cute as me and I'll like to prove 'em wrong. And you know, I'd like to creep up the scales and fight some shorter bantams. Maybe a Jennifer Love Hewitt - that's a great fan-friendly fight, and I think I win it outright. Hopefully pummelling Virginie will open some doors for me!"
