Before: Typical pundit opinion: we’ve seen Hewitt’s break out, seen her hit the wall, now we’ll see what she’s all about in a crucial come-back test. Before JLH’s little rocket trip, most would have made Kreuk 50-5-0 in a skills test against Jen—Kris anxious to prove that contention and help herself to a little of Hewitt’s steam. Kris in red string bikini, JLH in white.

During R1: Jen the aggressor, brazenly walking to Kris, throwing hard wide rights to the body, a flicking jab at the mouth and looping overhand rights to the head. Kris weaving and rolling it pretty well, but shying away from the heat—Kreuk content to stick to the jab, keeping it on Hewitt’s chest and leg away from Hewitt’s proposed donnybrook.

R2: patient Kris imposing order, taking advantage of Hewitt’s over anxious approach. Kreuk linear, weight forward, right at her cheek, jab straight and sharp to nJen’s mouth and left eye—constantly banging back brunette head and stopping Hewitt in her tracks. Pretty, straight combos from Kris as she steps right around the stick, putting the right hand on target with tapping impact, eyes bright with concentration, Hewitt lunging, angry—Kris easily fading, resetting the action with disciplined outside work.

R3: Jen settling down, getting back to basics and outboxing Kreuk this round. Girls set up outside to jab, flinching and feinting at each other, but it’s Hewitt scoring, banging away with cruel, small girl insistence on Kristin’s Neutragena-perfect face. By the midway point, Hewitt’s mixing in a right cross, getting Kreuk to duck and expose her back. Jen mopping up with a rigid, flat knuckle hook over and over in Kristin’s rightside kidney as Kreuk bends to avoid rights—good tuff stuff from JLH puts a sniveling look of hurt on KK’s face.

R4: Kristin getting after Hewitt’s face with pesky jab—JLH stalking forward, hands up, getting spanked but walking through it. Kreuk just pivoting, turning, touching Hewitt up at midring—Jen not moving her hands, but applying pressure with her feet. Final minute, Kris slaps Jen a hook across the chops—Hewitt comes back a hook and KRISTIN SCOOTS TO HER BUTT! Kreuk up for 8, suddenly blubbery, lower lip huffing and puffing as she looks about an ON COMES HEWITT! Jennifer wading in brazen, slug-slug-slugging left/right to the pit of Kreuk’s belly, sitting the little beauty into the ropes then JEN GOES JUG! Hewitt breaking into a bully’s grin as she treats herself to Kristin’s tits—brunette in shock, taking punches as she stares back mute and helpless at the bell.

R5: Jen’s broken Kristin’s will—Kris obviously shaken by Hewitt’s rampaging 4th, Kreuk’s on the run. Jen too wild to trap the slickster early, but some raking hooks and wide right hands to the waist stabilizes Kreuk in the second minute—girls reaching for each other’s biceps, fighting at close range—Jen’s getting into a groove. Hewitt’s fists thumping against Kreuk’s ribcage, shaking Kris, cramping her up—Hewitt coming off the body with curling uppercuts, clipping chin, backing Kris up. Kreuk against the ropes, covered up, listing side to side—the punishment’s all one way now as Hewitt lowers her mitts and swings away. White bikini cups sweeping side to side, joyous power swings—Hewitt standing strong, getting her hips into the music—Kreuk visibly wilting as punches bash off her skull, shoulders, body. it’s all too much—Kreuk sobbing, unresponsive as against the ropes—ref finally loves in and stops one tiny battler from mauling the other. TKO5 Hewitt.

After: Roaring stoppage for Hewitt—she’s overjoyed, knows she answered a lot of critics with a strong willed performance after a defeat. Kreuk battered and sulky—actually protected herself fairly well tonight from the blizzard, but simply couldn’t punch back—gave the ref no choice tonight. “That’s the edge we needed to se,” says one HBO matchmaker. “Hewitt could have boxed this kid tonight, but she got rough, got the crowd into it and committed to hurting her instead. Flyweight’s a meanspirited division—loks like Jen gets that now.”
