3. Kate Beckinsale vs Hudson Leick (Cougar Match)

Kate:

BEFORE:
Ladies step out onto the stage with their arms around each other's waists, both Kate and Hudson looking fit and friendly despite being on their way to a boxing ring.

“I’ve known Hudson for a while now. I’ve always enjoyed her work back in the day, so when we had an open slot on our card, I simply asked and she said ‘Yes’! What Hudson didn’t tell me at first was that she wanted to fight me, of all people!” Kate laughs as she speaks to reporters by the ring.

“Well, who else do I stand a chance of beating at my age?” Hudson adds by her side, slapping Beckinsale playfully on the arm. “You know, I actually do have some boxing experience myself… Over twenty years ago...”

“When you lost to Famke. Yes, I recall that very well,” Kate says, a little amusement on her face.

“Well, you don’t have to rub it in, do ya?” Hudson replies, a little peeved.

Ladies go back and forth bantering for a little longer, and it’s clear that there’s more than a little friendly rivalry going on here. But we’ve got to get this mid-card show started. A few moments later, Kate’s in her own corner of the ring, bouncing on her toes whilst dressed in a black bikini top and white briefs, and tightening red gloves.

Hudson has gone for a sunshine yellow bikini, showing off a toned figure for someone who’s recently crossed the half-century mark in terms of age. Ladies touch gloves in the center and we’re off to ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
Hudson moving fast for her age, all that training on the Xena set must have somehow paid off that early in her career: she frustrates Kate’s offense by moving constantly at first, then surprising Kate with sudden lunges to her head. This haphazard approach makes Kate hella confused, forcing the British actress to take multiple evasive maneuvers early on so as to not get wrecked to the face in the first round0. All that friendly banter goes flying out the window after Hudson scores a ringin’ right hand to the side of the head, drawing a loud OUFF from Kate’s lips. No longer friends indeed as Beckinsale’s sent stumbling out of range, her eyebrows narrowed after realising that there’s pride on the line tonight. Last minute has Hudson chasing her down, but Beckinsale relying on her clean jabs to maintain some distance.

ROUND 2:
More of the same as Hudson looks to end this fight early, the older woman knowing that she can’t possibly go a full ten rounds without calling a cardiologist on speed dial. Kate fares a little better this time, evading the bigger punches thrown at her head, taking them on the forearms before slamming her own into Hudson’s guard. Leick grunts as she receives some shockwaves to her tummy, but she’s mostly able to protect her vulnerable face for the last minute, with the two women exchanging quick jabs to the lips till the bell rings.

ROUND 3:
The crowd’s cheering both women on but they’re both starting to tire by this point, both spending the first minute circling and pawing at each other’s heads. Hudson tries her hand at a couple of flurries but they’re mostly missed opportunities, Kate weaving her head backwards and towards the side to avoid the off-target attacks, before counter-shocking Leick to the chin or body, content with testing their age difference tonight. Hudson’s getting withered down in this way, wants a long breather after winning the first two rounds, but Beckinsale’s pressing in to pressure some more - the Brit lands more stiff shots to Hudson’s face by the end of the round, securing a comeback just in time for tea!

ROUND 4:
Time to pounce and Beckinsale agrees! She barrels towards Hudson without as much hesitation when the bell ring, ignoring the blonde’s jabs sent back and going after her body and head in alternate combinations of jabs and crosses. Hudson in trouble early, can’t possibly rely on her make-believe Hollywood fighting prowess or those decades of boxing experience that her counterpart possesses - she takes a nasty knock square to the chin and then another hook to her cheek, and before you know it, DOWN HUDSON GOES!! The blonde simply collapses onto her side with a grunt, and it’s a clean KNOCKDOWN for Kate Beckinsale in the second minute!

Hudson reduced to an absolute mess on canvas, wills herself to get back up and continue but her aging body just refusing to comply - the poor blonde makes it up to her knees, her head hanging onto the middle rope, before the referee counts her out to 10! It’s all over!

Official Decision: Kate Beckinsale defeats Hudson Leick via KO4!

AFTER:
Some nice, cordial exchanges between these two veterans of the screen, Kate and Hudson sharing a long hug long after the bell’s rung and the referee made the results official. Hudson heard congratulating Beckinsale repeatedly, and Kate herself is continuing to encourage her friend to enter the ring sometime in the future. Who knows? Ms Leick might be eyeing a more permanent place within the Cougar division!
