1. Kyra Santoro vs Melia Kreiling (Bantamweight)

Kyra:

(25, 5’7, 118, 11:7 FCBA, VIXENs)

Melia:
(28, 5’7, 1:2 FCBA, Free Agent)

BEFORE:
We extend a warm welcome to you from Ice Station Valencia in Valencia, Southern California. As you can see, the usual ice hockey ring’s been converted into a night of boxing action that’s perfected suited for our main event tonight, where resident Ice Queen Alexis Ren takes on fellow Vixen, Emily Ratajkowski for the Queen of the Ice Hotel championship.

The stadium is packed for five fights on the card tonight, and just a friendly reminder that no fans are allowed on the ice-apron tonight lest they prove to be a menace (We’ve got enough of that inside the ring, thank you very much.).

Without further ado, let’s go first backstage to find out what transpired earlier in the afternoon at our pre-fight press conference.

“This b*tch ain’t taking my spot,” Kyra saying defiantly whilst seated at the table, using some rare bad language that betrays her usual, good girl image. “I don’t know what VIX management was thinking these past few months, but it ends tonight. I’m taking this Swedish girl down and putting these rumours that I’m leaving to rest.”

Melia Kreiling smiling back from her end of the table, apparently knowing something the rest of us don’t. “Well, you can certainly try, little girl. But I think your history in the ring speaks otherwise, making you history as well regardless of what happens tonight.”

Newly appointed Chief of Training, Kate Beckinsale, is sitting in between these two girls, trying to calm them down. “As you all know, this is a loser-stays-in-the-stable fight. I’m sorry if that’s unfair to you, Kyra. We just met and you seem like a wonderful girl, but the agreement was in place before I came onboard.”

Kate then turns to Melia. “And you, I already don’t like. Don’t forget that you still have to win the match tonight in order for the contract to be made binding and you take Kyra’s place.”

“That won’t f*cking happen,” Santoro suddenly getting up from her chair, glaring her meanest-girl stare, before storming out of the press conference and hiding back tears. “f*ck all of you!” she shouts.

Finally in the arena later, Kyra’s entrance music blasts through the speakers, and she arrives on stage wearing a violet bikini, rest of the body wrapped around with a velvet light pink robe that’s shimmering off the icy floor. Gone is that happy, innocent look from her face, her world crashing down upon hearing those rumours that she wasn’t performing up to standard.

Next comes her (potential) replacement, the Swiss juggernaut making waves recently with a tough win against Emily Wickersham, then brought down by Alicia Vikander. Tonight is another true test between two Bantamweights, with the winner staying on the roster and the loser getting booted forever. The staredown in the center of the ring is tense as a result, both girls get in close face-to-face, setting each other with looks of animosity. Both are coming in at around the same height, packing plenty of muscle in their frames as well - all the hallmarks of a thrilling opening for our event.

Referee signals for the fight to start, so HERE we go with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
We have two heavy-hitters on the card tonight and they waste little time in getting started. Melia exerting her power early, forcing her right hand into Kyra’s guard and stunning her regardless of leather actually landing on skin. It’s the psychological battle that Melia’s hoping to win instead, and it works: Kyra moving backwards as soon as the first few shots begin to land, stinging her arms and skin, one hook even throwing her off balance briefly. Melia smiling hard, happy with her own display of strength and confident that she’s dominating these first exchanges. Santoro forced to cover up when another incoming hook almost takes her head off, BANGS off the side of the arm instead, further shoving her off to the side. All Santoro can do is jab back at the face and body, but they’re just wild scrambles to plug the rapidly deteriorating dam - Melia doesn’t completely overwhelm the Vixen this round, but it sure looks like the water level’s rising at a fast rate!

ROUND 2:
Santoro advised not to stand and brawl with the big Swede, and she tries out that strategy for the first minute. Melia still being aggressive, trying to get into her face, but her swings are missing over and over, slowly sapping her own energy level. Kyra the one smiling now as she scores from afar with her long jab, tagging Melia’s chin and cheek repeatedly even into the second minute. Another wild hook and lunge from Melia almost scores her her own brand of revenge, if it wasn’t for Kyra’s youthful moves and swerves to one side to avoid. Santoro ducks and weaves, then unleashes her own power with a chopping hook into the sides of her foe’s body. Melia stunned for the first time in this match, grunting loudly as Kyra scoots out of range once again. She needs to do more than use her power if she plans on going the distance! WIDE round for Santoro at the bell.

ROUND 3:
Girls cautious from the start, even when they decide to meet in the middle and start swinging. Melia carefully picking her shots this time, managing to only power a fist forward when Kyra is in range. Santoro knocked about as a result, reminiscent of that early first round, but she’s more stunned than hurt as she returns fire of her own: rapid jabs that pepper Melia’s face and body, trying to stem the tide and establish her distance. Santoro left breathing hard at the opposite corner, wondering at Melia’s stamina and tenacity, especially for a rookie. Kreiling STILL seen advancing on her position, arms locked together and eyes focused, unleashing with jab-jab-hook combos towards the Vixen’s head. Kyra blocks and absorbs, but her tummy takes a pounding as those swings to the side land hard in wicked payback fashion. Kreiling looks to rush in close to wrap up, and punish the younger woman further, but is stopped by the bell and an intervening referee who holds her back.

ROUND 4:
Girls know by this point that they can hurt each other, and begin to get more adventurous as a result. Melia coming forward to initiate an exchange, right arm already pulled back to attack, but then is surprised when Kyra launches first, landing a quick one-two shot into her nostrils. Melia’s hook sails off-target as a result, and Kyra continues to fire away, another two jabs shoved painfully into the Swede’s lips for good measure. But Kyra gets cocky thereafter by not retreating, and Melia’s follow-up hook CRASHES hard into her face at rocket speed! OUCH!! Kreiling was merely swinging for the fences there, still swaying on her feet and red-faced, looking disoriented. But Kyra no better, goes sailing off into the ropes at and clinging on with a GASP and shout, absolutely wrecked at the end of that exchange! Kreiling stalking after her slowly, finding an already-stunned girl on the ropes and does exactly what’s expected of her: low thuds landing on Kyra’s abdomen and bigger hooks crash into Santoro’s guard, the Vixen simply trying to hold on for the final seconds of this round. Bell sounds and Kyra makes it out alive, denying the Swede with a knockdown!

ROUND 5:
Santoro’s put on notice with that last round not going her way, now keeping herself on the outskirts of the ring as she tries to avoid another hook from landing on her visage. Kreiling eager to finish this fight now, and in convincing fashion. She also knows that Kyra’s running scared of her hooks, keeps toying with the Vixen’s expectations by cocking a right hand backwards, and then failing to let it fly on purpose, enjoying Kyra’s look of surprise and frustration when she realises it was all a ruse. “f*ck you, b*tch,” is what Santoro’s glare is really saying, clear as day, as she comes in all of a sudden to brawl! Melia obliging, and suddenly both girls are swinging at each other like there’s no tomorrow. Well, there definitely WON’T be a tomorrow for one of these girls, with only the winner getting offered a contract to stay in the stable. Kyra playing straight into the other girl’s trap, however, getting her face spun to the left with a close-contact hook from Kreiling, then another right hand landing hard! Santoro scoring back, definitely, but busy targeting Melia’s body and chest, only rarely knocking her head back with uppercuts to the chin. Last few seconds and Kyra BLASTED across the face one more time, goes SAILING off the side… we’re expecting a KNOCKDOWN as the Vixen’s knees suddenly buckle, but NO - SHE’S SAVED BY THE ROPES once more, clinging onto the top for dear life! Her butt’s poking out, facing her tormentress as Melia rushes in to finish what she started… Kyra still holding to the top rope, mewing as her back and side-body rocked by Kreiling’s dull, low hooks… Bell rings and we’re STILL left waiting for a knockdown, folks! Melia must be beating herself up at this point of the fight, looking incredibly winded on her way back to corner at not being able to cash out. It’s taking much more effort to put this younger girl down for good!

ROUND 6:
One word to describe Kyra would definitely be ‘tenacious’. Kudos to her for refusing to give up the game just yet, recovering enough in between rounds to score first blood in the sixth when she forces a pair of left-right jabs into Melia’s nose immediately as her opponent gets in close! Kreiling gurgling, thrown off balance suddenly, especially when she wasn’t expecting any resistance at this point in the fight. Santoro still stringing her along by the nose, using Melia’s momentous charge forward to her own advantage. Kreiling doesn’t see that Santoro’s not in any danger of going down just yet, and still she continues to headhunt using her right hook. Santoro ducking under, swerving back, before timing another combo that bunches up both sides of Melia’s face in quick succession, pushing her head from left to right, then sneaking in a third uppercut into the chin that DAZES HER BAD! Ohhhh! Kreiling wobbly, reeling back, can’t stop blows from landing all over as Kyra walks her down, ROTATES her a clean 180 degrees on the spot - Kreiling FALLS straight down like a felled tree trunk, her lights completely knocked out on the ground! Referee signals for the bell and it’s all over!

Official Decision: Kyra Santoro defeats Melia Kreiling via KO6!

AFTER:

Kyra throws up her hands and almost breaks down into tears again - such was the weight of the pressure that must have been on her shoulders to win this fight, that was probably the last one of her career. But no - this knockout means Melia Kreiling’s still left out in the cold searching for a new stable to call home, and Ms Santoro’s position in VIXENs left secured for now.

Co-Head Trainer Corey Saucier looking delighted as he enters the ring, embraces Kyra tightly, definitely not wanting any of his girls to leave their ranks, let alone someone as positive and optimistic as Kyra. But we’ve also witnessed a sort of turning point for this lady fighter, Kyra displaying a streak of viciousness when her position in the stable was threatened, and that sweet-girl image giving way to frustration and newfound determination. Maybe we like this new side of Santoro, and definitely hope to see her winning more battles in the future.
