The latest Foxfire/HISC bout moves up to lightweight and stars the Consortium’s newly signed Katie Holmes vs Foxfire’s young blonde Laura Vandervoort. Prefight is much calmer than previous encounters between the two stables, but there is still much to interest observers.

“I’ve been handed a wonderful opportunity by Hawkeye International,” Kate Holmes tells the assembled scribes. “I intend to take full advantage of it to prove, at long last, that I truly belong in the FCBA. I don’t know much about Laura, except that she’s younger and has a lot of talent. I couldn’t be happier because what I most need is credibility and beating Laura Vandervoort would be a great way to get it.”

When Laura takes the podium she smiles at first, but then grows serious: “This fight is very important to me as well as Ms. Holmes. You see, I feel the need for credibility myself. I have done a quite a bit of beach fighting lately, but I know that to be a full rounded lightweight, I need to fight and win in arena fights. Katie’s modest about it, but she is still got a name people notice. A win over her would help establish myself as a serious lightweight contender.”

So both fighters enter the ring with something to prove. Laura appears in a royal blue bikini with halter top. Katie opts for an elegant black bikini with a silver belt. No ill-will, but determined expressions as the two fighters touch gloves and await the opening bell.

R1: Laura immediately establishes herself as the aggressor coming forward with determination and throwing slick right hands at Katie’s flanks. Katie keeps her elbows in close to protect those ribs. Katie shows some nice jab, but mostly she prefers to stay on the move to avoid serious damage while she studies her blonde foe. Good creative Katie footwork, but Laura landing more punches and gets the round.

R2: Katie’s seen enough. She comes out and goes right for Laura with a slickly managed flurry of lefts and rights to the head. Katie looks great moving on those legs, weaving around and finding angles to fire in past Laura’s guard. Laura not so much hurt as flustered as she seems unable to deal with her dancing opponent. She covers up and tries to clinch, but Katie evades most of the attempts. Round ends with Katie smiling happily and Laura frowning.

R3: Katie goes right back at it. Same bobbing, weaving, sharpshooting attack. She’s landing a very nice crisscross attack of left hooks and right crosses to Laura’s tanned torso. Then as Vandervoort ‘s guard comes down, Holmes lifts some good ringing uppercuts into the blonde’s chin. Laura starting to get marked up, but she doesn’t give up, countering with the jab, but Katie’s just got too much tricky movement to land the shots effectively. Round ends with Katie’s smile broadening, Laura’s frown deepening as Holmes takes her second round of the evening.

R4: Laura mounts a counterattack to start the round. Startling Katie with a good, hard left to the ribs and then a follow-up right. Laura then keeps the pressure on, cutting off the ring and punching Katie back to the ropes. The brunette forced to be the open to cover up and Laura spends nearly two full minutes pounding away at Katie to the body. Katie keeps those elbows in and avoids serious damage, but she’s the one frowning at the bell, while Laura is showing smiles.

R5: Laura picks up where she left off, using her slick right and left to attack Katie’s torso. Katie working hard to keep off the ropes, but Laura’s now seems able to move with her and keep up the attack. Katie still shooting back, but her workrate is starting to fall off noticeable and more worrisome, she is breathing hard as the round goes on. By the end she’s still not really hurt, but moves slowly back to her stool. Laura walks back briskly, she got her lumps, but her comeback has clearly encouraged her.

R6: Katie comes out and after an initial flurry of punches with Laura, seems to lose energy. Laura not lacking for energy as she returns to the offense and forces Katie back to the ropes. Katie covers up and just lets the blonde pound away at her body. Katie’s body starting to shiver under the relentless attack. Finally, Katie clinches to buy herself some respite from all that body pounding, but Laura is quickly back at it. It’s not so much any single punches doing the damage as the steady accumulation of havoc to Holmes’ ribcage and belly. After bell, Katie clearly uncomfortable as she heads for her stool and Laura looking increasingly pleased with herself.

R7: Katie tries to regain the initiative early with a some nice uppercuts into Laura’s jaw, but she gets hard jabs to her aching body in reply. She’s no longer got that constantly moving body and Laura is on her with increasing pressure. Katie tries hard to keep Laura back with the jab, but Laura using her left shoulder to take it and fire back with her right, this time aiming at Katie’s chin. Katie’s butt is soon against the cables and once again she is forced to cover-and-clinch as Laura pounds steadily away at those increasingly exposed flanks. Katie hangs on, but she’s mouth breathing and unsteady in her walk. Laura watches her go and smiles with satisfaction.

R8: Katie comes out looking worn and discouraged. Laura moves in briskly to drive Katie slowly back to her now familiar place on the ropes and patiently work at the brunette’s body. Katie trying to slide along the ropes, but Laura blocks her way and neatly evades Holmes’ attempts to clinch. For two long minutes, Katie’s tummy, ribs and abs are Laura V’s personal punching back. No haymakers, just unrelenting punches to that same areas already ravaged by blonde pressure. It’s not really the finishing punch, but Laura steps up with a deep meaty swinging right into Katie’s side and like the last stroke of a woodsman feeling a tree, it sends a great shiver through Katie’s trunk. Katie sags to her haunches and just sits there hugging her sides, tears running down her cheeks.
Laura goes to the neutral corner and lets the referee do his counting. Katie does make an effort to rise, but her legs now betray her, they won’t cooperate and she can only hang her head in misery as the count reaches ten. WINNER KO8: LAURA VANDERVOORT!

After: Laura generously helps Katie to her feet and escorts the weeping brunette back to her corner. Then she comes back out to accept the cheers of the crowd. The other Foxfire lightweights, Jennifer Garner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rachel Nichols all join Laura as she savors her victory. Alas, no sign of any support from the other HISC fighters and Katie has to make her lonely way back to the dressing room, the cheers of the crowd for Laura still ringing in her ears.
