Results: Lookout!; Story: Caspian & The Dollhouse

BEFORE:
The year hasn’t been great so far for Miss Winnick, as evidenced by the fact the Canadian blonde entered the press hall earlier looking slightly subdued after her most recent KO loss against famed Hall-of-Famer, Natalie Portman. To hear Winnick spin her own tale, however, the Doll is trying to remain positive for this next fight against a fellow blonde:

"You guys know I don't like padding my stats with easy fights...even after getting smacked around by a Hall of Famer…so..despite losing my previous 2 fights I'm going to challenge myself again tonight. Melissa is not only bigger and stronger, she’s 10 years younger. Probably at her physical peak. I'm confident that I'm good enough to overcome that and take her down, but there IS a possibility I might just get my ass kicked tonight on physicality alone,” Kat chuckles, making light of her situation. “I guess we'll see. But even if that happens, I won't be going down without a hell of a fight, and you better believe that, Melissa."

Melissa Benoist, by contrast, has had a relatively easier time in 2021, having lost her only bout to Minka Kelly at the start of this year, and then see-sawing between a split win-loss record the year before. It’s clear she’s had a leaner fight schedule, but does that mean she’s up to the task tonight?

“I like Winnick. I like what she stands for. I hope I’ll still be kicking ass when I’m 43 myself,” Melissa says next with a laugh. “In all seriousness, I’m happy to give Kat a challenge tonight. It’s been too long since I’ve had a victory of my own, and she can be rest assured I won’t be holding back tonight. I’m definitely planning on kicking her ass in there.”

And there you have it - an uphill climb for the Doll as she squares off with Melissa on stage, having to look upwards briefly at her three-inch height disadvantage. Doesn’t help either, as Winnick mentioned prior, that Benoist is ten years younger and is definitely packing more stamina and strength in her impressively fit frame. The only things going for Kat tonight are her in-ring and martial arts experience, and of course, the fact that she’s fighting on Dollhouse soil. But will these be enough?

Either way, the showdown at the podium is as respectful as they get, both blondes shaking hands before making their way backstage for the final preparations. Hours later, it’s Supergirl herself striding first down the ramp to the ring, wearing a baby blue sports bra and long black tights that show off her lean figure. She straps on a pair of red gloves to stamp in that superheroine look. Up next is Winnick herself, striding onto the Doll Ball stage and striking a pose with her hands paired on her hips. The Doll is in her usual colours white and black sports bra and tights, respectively, hair in a tight ponytail as she raises her gloves to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd.

Referee does his usual inspection of the colours, getting the nod from both corners before WAVING for this fight to begin! HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
Winnick starts this fight as she usually does, that defensive stance giving plenty of girls trouble in the past as she locks her arms over her head and circles first rather than charges in. She needs to win this next fight, but needs to win it fair and square, do it her own way, as she sends momentary jabs towards Melissa’s head, looking for an opening. Melissa’s been touted as bigger, stronger and younger, so there’s plenty of danger in facing down the lethal blonde, especially someone she’s not fought before. Benoist, however and for the most part, also staying passive early, jabbing back but her bigger, more reaching punches landing without venom, as Winnick hits her to the face with an effective counter-strike each time the Supergirl actress goes in for a sudden lunge or a hook swung out of nowhere. As a result, Winnick scores wide at the end of this first round, looking happy with her performance as she pumps an arm back to corner.

ROUND 2:
Benoist is adjusting her stance, however, now fighting back with her own fire as she squeezes in early jab combos clean to Kat’s face, using her own reach advantage to land points all over the Doll’s frame. Kat finally feels that difference in height the most painful way, grunting as another one-two combo stings her to the lips and pushes her backwards, her own return punches either falling short or taken by Mel on the arms. Benoist might have found her winning strategy as she dominates the first two minutes, but Kat stays back towards the third, using the tired blonde as target practice as she slams in a hard cross to the body when the younger blonde wasn’t looking. Not the best round for the Doll but at least she staves off a shutout performance.

ROUND 3:
Kat’s back to the ropes as she skirts and moves to avoid Melissa’s punches, using her opponent’s own enthusiasm to sap her of energy as the rounds go wide. Benoist looks hella eager to come in to try and finish the old-timer off, but underestimates Winnick’s speed and power, gets blasted across the arms more than one time when she came in brazenly with a fast combo to the guard, only to take more punishment on her way out as Winnick makes her pay. Net result is Kat holding her ground, and then some, powering her own power straight-hand right into the middle of Melissa’s arms to end the round overall in her favour. That one cross hand, for example, stunned Benoist when she wasn’t expecting it by knocking her arms back into her face and drawing a dull grunt from her lips. Kat so far is taking this fight due to her keen strategy and smarter fighting. We hope she can keep this up going forward!

ROUND 4:
Melissa’s overeagerness means she’s stretching herself thin in the very first minute, skirting in fast and lighting up Winnick’s arms with more fast combos to try and overwhelm the Doll. Kat is still fighting fresh, however, grunts as she experiences the younger fighter’s power up close, but always manages to slip to the side or backwards to escape that final bashing hook sent her way. Melissa however gives pursuit relentlessly, and even Kat can’t escape her attacks forever... A grazing left hand catches her on the chin, which throws Winnick to the side with stunned surprise. Melissa gives out a shout of triumph and rushes in to try and finish her off, but only manages to dig her gloves into the blonde’s body with a one-two combo, another hook smashed across the big girl’s arms to send Kat packing to the side, for now, but yet not down or done! Benoist with the much-needed comeback here by the time the bell rings, but she’s clearly looking winded after all that chasing!

ROUND 5:
Surprisingly (or perhaps, not), here comes Melissa again, hoping to mop up where she left off! She makes a beeline straight for Kat, arms firmly locked and up, and one already pulled back to power a cross into Katheryn’s arms. The Doll stays cool, however, leading her younger foe back and taking some shots to her body and guard, but nothing disastrous. After thirty seconds of this chasing and Kat sees an opening and TAKES it, winds back all of a sudden with a right hook, before letting it shriek through the air, LANDING straight to the side of Melissa’s face as she was coming in hot for another attack run! POWW!! Benoist looks shocked as her head gets turned to one side, her mouth hanging open as the rest of her torso groans on its hinges. Kat scours inwards with more powerful blows landed all over the blonde’s torso and slapping those arms to each side as though they were twigs in a thunderstorm. Benoist’s in trouble, suddenly getting beaten back, her defences falling by the second. A third such HOOK across her face seals the deal, which sends her flying off to the side and then DOWN to the ground, on her chest! It’s one beautiful KNOCKDOWN for Katheryn Winnick, who scores first blood within the first fifteen minutes of this contest!

Benoist spitting and sputtering out her gumshield whilst on her chest, trying to push herself up to all fours and crawl towards the nearby ropes for salvation. For some reason, however, the shock of the knockdown has done little to spur her upwards, and the Foxfire starlet REMAINS on her knees even as she hopelessly hears the referee count her out to 10! It’s OVER!!

Official Decision: Katheryn Winnick defeats Melissa Benoist via KO5!

AFTER:
A modest but important victory for Katheryn Winnick for her tonight - she bet big on a tough, younger foe, but in the end, managed to come out on top in dominant fashion. Kat celebrates with a firm hand in the air as she rounds the entire ring with a big smile on her face.

Still, she’s mindful of not rubbing her victory into her opponent’s nose tonight, and quickly heads over to Melissa’s corner just moments later, with Benoist having to be helped back to her wooden stool by her own fight team in the immediate aftermath, now looking tired and beaten as her gloves are slowly removed from her fists.

The two blondes share some heartfelt words of encouragement as Winnick hovers over Melissa in her corner. The Doll then offers her a hand, which she accepts. The two fighters respectfully embrace near the ropes, before Winnick herself decides to raise Melissa’s hand as well, to earn the much-deserved cheers from the crowd.

Later, as Winnick leaves the ring, she’s stopped by reporters, who swarm her with questions about her future in the ring.
“I’ll continue challenging myself in the ring and out of it until my body tells me otherwise….I’ve been doing that my entire life and if it’s up to me I’ll be doing it forever. I’d like to thank Melissa for the great fight and thank my trainers for preparing me well for her. Looking forward to kicking more ass this year. That’s what I’m all about!” the victorious blonde smiles, chuckling and waving to her cheering fans before making her final exit and disappearing behind the curtains and out of sight.
