Before: Chen back fighting in the States after an extensive Pacific Rim campaign. Money fight with Diane Lane looms, Joanie looking to pad the record a little to build the gate--Hess a light hitting, skilled technician can be tricky, but Chen confident she can’t be hurt tonight. Joan with short hair, black sports bra, black stretch pants to the ankle--Hess in yellow beach volleyball bikini.

During R1: Joanie with a high pressure first minute, coming at Hess with hard right crosses, snapping left hooks, Sandra dipping inside the punches for the most part, pulling away, making Chen miss. Fluid licking exchange midway through as both girls keep their punches short, twisting into serious lefts and rights and CHEN GOES DOWN! Joanie bludgeoned to her hands and knees, face pinched with pain as she catches a skidding right hand on her jaw line. Joan up at 8., immediately covers up at the ropes as Hess f=goes to the waistline with greedy lefts and rights.

R2: Big shutout Sandra Hess--Joan clearly hurt, although her expression, as always, remains impassive. Sandra cutting off the ring, digging a lead hook to the liver, then coming upstairs with the right hand, left hook on the chin--Chen folding as she connects add up. Midway through, Hess labels jaw with another jerking right hand--Chens knees buckle and she staggers in to clinch. Tough cheek to cheek action I the final minute--Hess helping herself to Chen’s flat stomach, stepping back, walking Joan into blows.

R3: Shutout Joan Chen. Chen showing terrific vitality, shakes off a rough start, comes ion again with chopping punches from either hand, forcing Hess to bail, circle defensively. Chen the harder puncher--Hess stung a couple of times this round by gouging body shots or crisp right hands on the chin.

R4: Hess deflecting Chen’s power with a timely jab, darting in and out to pre-empt the Asian, and not ignoring the body--going there with hooks. Joan still thinking KO, gets herself outboxed this round.

R5: Joan settles down, remembers her jab--she can play chess too. Girls bait traps, willing to box to set up one good shot--it’s good stuff. Hess showing a little chin, trying to coax right hands from Chen so she can counter. Joan hooking off the jab, stepping to her left, fighting from angles--Chen’s round by a hair.

R6: Joan starting to land heavy with the hook, hashing off Hess’ chest and face--startling the blonde and putting her on her heels. Sandra fighting in spots, still swishing her mitts quick when she wants, but it’s all arm punching, meant to dazzle more than hurt. Chen the effective aggressor--she’s got Sandra on the run.

R7: Sandra changing back--she moves inside, gets off to the body, then puts a hand in behind Chen’s elbow no turn her with leveage--ah, thre sweet science. Joanie cant get them out--Sandra’s not hurting her, but all aroundf the ring, it’s hess shoe shining gut, then turning Chen left or right, pivoting around the Asian and staying on top.

R8: Joan won’t be bamboozled.. Relying on her power, Chen DIGS left hands to Sandra’s six pack abs--sharp, cracking blows getting crowd reaction as Hess falls back with trembling lips. Shutout Joan Chen as she walks Sandra  down, bangs her stomach, then chases again as Hess takes to her heels.

R9: Sandra staying composed, pulling out all the tricks. Outside, she keeps a constant, pestering jab on Chen, luring Joan forward and nailing her on the way in with the short right hand, Then on the inside, scrubbing shoeshine to the body from the blonde, followed by the slick grab and turn--Hess with a hand behind Joan’s elbow can turn her at will--Chen constantly forced to reset drops the round/

R10: Joan press, feeling it’s too close to go the judges. Hess moving her head in retreat, bounces backwards, making Chen miss and midway through, she steals the round with  a beautiful counter hook, beating Joan to the punch--Chen’s knees give way and she is HURT! Sandra putting her punches together, goes on the offensive and swats Chen upside the head, shoeshines her stomach, walking Chen down all over the ring to the bell. At the end, disappointed flashes on Joan’s otherwise stoic face--she knows she let hess handle her. UD10. Sandra Hess.

After: Chen a little overconfident, a little too easy to hit as Sandra fights her fight, avoids big hurt, and takes a comfortable decision/ Chen had the right idea--key to fighting Hess is to hurt her, but slick boxing blonde took advantage of the pressing brunette, picked her apart, and sent her packing with style. Job well done.
