Elyse Willems
(34 / 5’3” / 5:7 FCBA / The Comediennes)

Alyssa Milano
(48 / 5’2” / 31:46:2 FCBA / The Comediennes - Trainer)

Result: Lookout! / Story: The Comediennes

Pre-fight:

“We’ve been doing some sparing here and there,” says Elyse. “Honestly I was a little surprised when she challenged me to a straight up fight. No exhibition, records on the line and all. But I don’t back down from challenges. Maybe she thought I would, but that’s not who I am. So she wants to get in the ring with her Captain… so be it. I’m not going to back down from anyone, even if she is my trainer.”

“Elyse’s performances as of late have been disappointing,” says Alyssa. “I came into the stable, made some changes and frankly she hasn’t been about all of them. That’s fine. You know why? Because I’m going to show her why I’m making these changes. She’s going to get one painful lesson in the ring today. She could have learned it in private at the Comediennes facility but no. She had to take it personal. Well now she gets to get schooled in public.”

R1:

Both fighters come out swinging. It’s clear there’s a disdain between the two. They each want to punish the other one. If the crowd didn’t know any better they’d think Elyse and Alyssa were longtime rivals. Instead, they actually are part of the same stable! Elyse does a good job early on with her jabs, but Alyssa seems to figure her out early.

She ducks a right from Elyse and buries a left into the ribs. Elyse takes the first big blow of the fight, and it’s not the last. Alyssa follows up with a right hook that snaps Elyse’s head to the side. Elyse’s jaw already hanging low and she has to cover up. Alyssa just smacking Elyse around now as she seems to enjoy beating up her own fighter. Rights and lefts, up and down the body and then rising up to tag the face when she gets the opportunity. Elyse takes the full frontal assault until the bell rings.

Milano takes that round wide, 10-9.

R2:

Alyssa comes out aggressive again, moving in on Elyse’s defense and making her pay. Bruising up the younger fighter inside. She has all of the momentum now as Elyse seems taken aback by Alyssa’s ferocity.

Still, at Alyssa’s age she can’t quite keep up the assault like she used to and eventually her arms swing at a slower pace. Elyse finds a crease and counterpunches with a right. Then she throws a few quick combos. Her fists flying and connecting to Alyssa’s face. Alyssa backs up and throws a hook that smacks Elyse again, causing the blonde to halt her assault.

The two fighters take a beat and then go right back at it. Elyse with a nice duck and she’s the one to bury a left to the body. It’s enough to make Alyssa go full retreat for the remainder of the round. Elyse chases her down when she can, adding up a few more strikes to her total before the bell rings.

Willems takes that round close. Tied 19-19.

R3:

The Comediennes trainer comes out with a fire in her eyes and her fists. She rocks Elyse with a right hand early on. Willems can only jab back in defense. But Alyssa comes over the top and with a slicing right nails Elyse on the cheek.

Willems stumbles to the ropes. She covers, but Alyssa keeps the pressure on. Her right and left combos slicing right through Elyse’s defenses. If Alyssa had just a tiny bit more power this would be knockout territory, but she can’t seem to bring Willems to the canvas.

Elyse tries to counter punch, but gets stuffed. Alyssa follows with a few more combos, taking Elyse to the brink before the bell rings.

Alyssa takes that round comfortably, but can’t find the knockdown. 29-28 Milano.

R4:

Things looking bleak for Elyse as she comes out and Alyssa’s firepower continues to overwhelm her. She gets walked backwards. It’s slow and methodical, but Alyssa’s punches keep knocking Elyse off of her game. There are clearly holes in Elyse’s guard, and Alyssa is suavely exploiting them.

Elyse finds herself in a corner. Alyssa’s combos becoming overwhelming. She lets out a cry of desperation and throws an uppercut. It’s enough to stun Alyssa. Elyse punches her way out of the corner. She’s got Milano on her heels now. Rights and lefts flying. Elyse pouring everything she has into every single strike.

Alyssa blocks one, and follows with an uppercut of her own. Elyse’s head snaps back. The bell rings and Elyse catches herself on the rope… just barely able to stay on her feet. She is slackjawed and stumbles over to her corner. Huffing and puffing. Alyssa is equally covered in sweat but seems much more composed.

Alyssa takes the round despite Elyse’s mid-round comeback. 39-37 Milano.

R5:

Round 5 begins and mirrors much of the fight so far. Alyssa is taking Elyse to school. She’s quicker, lighter on her feet, and more technically sound. All this from a 48-year-old!

Meanwhile Elyse looks haggard. Alyssa continues to dodge her stuff and counters with her own. It’s not long before the blonde is up against the ropes again. Alyssa punishes Elyse’s body. Two rights to the ribs and as the guard drops Milano follows up with a left cross that badly hurts her opponent.

Elyse can only bring Alyssa in for a clinch, which Alyssa uses to get some shots off into Elyse’s ribs. The ref breaks them apart and BAM! Alyssa with a huge uppercut. Elyse stumbles into the corner. Alyssa on her again. Just tearing the blonde apart. She’s beating Elyse to a pulp. The ref has half a mind to call the fight right now.

“NOOOO!!!” roars Elyse.

She pivots and throws a right hook that staggers Alyssa. With Milano falling to her side Elyse goes after her. She knocks Milano around. Battering her between lefts and rights. Alyssa takes a few swipes at Elyse, but Willems is too locked in now to get hit with anything significant.

With the ring now flipped and Milano against the ropes, she can’t find anywhere through Elyse’s barrage. The round ends with Milano on the verge of a knockdown, hanging over the ropes.

A truly wild and bazar round, but the scoring ends up going to Willems. 48-47 Milano.

R6:

The two girls center in the middle of the ring. It seems they’re both content to stop the fancy footwork and just see who has the better punch. There’s a bit of a lull, as neither fighter can land anything significant. But as the fight bleeds into the second minute it’s Elyse’s jab that sets up a sweeping right hand.

Milano’s head snaps to the side and her body goes with her, crashing down onto the canvas.

The ref scurries over. She begins the count. Elyse stands in her corner, a bruised and bloody mess, hoping that her trainer will stay down.

Alyssa crawls to the ropes and begins to pull herself up, but she’s only midway up to her feet when the ref reaches the 10 count.

It’s over and Elyse completes the comeback!

Winner via KO in Round 6: Elyse Willems

Post-fight:

The two boxers give each other a big hug as they meet in the middle of the ring. They’re arm-in-arm in the hall outside of the locker room as they take questions from the media.

“Well, it was a bit of a working out our frustrations,” says Elyse. “There’s been some obvious tension, but at the end of the day we’re all on the same team. I felt I had something to prove today to my trainer and she clearly had something to prove against me. It’s a testament to our work relationship that we can savagely tear into each other and understand why we did it. I feel the air has been cleared and now I get why Alyssa has been riding me so hard during training.”

The media turns largely to the Alyssa, this being an unique scenario where she’s the trainer of the winner and also the loser of the fight.

“She’s got so much potential,” says Alyssa. “Just such a raw ability. It’s a real shame she didn’t get in younger because we would have had years to hone her abilities. We don’t though. And Elyse knows that. What she didn’t get was why I was so much harder on her than the other girls.

It’s because she’s our captain and she needs to know where she’s vulnerable. I think I showed some of those vulnerabilities to her today while also allowing her to highlight her strength. Look, I’m not going to say I came in expecting to lose. But I didn’t come in expecting to knock her out in the second round, you know what I mean? She’s got the offensive tools to be a great flyweight. She just needs to work on her technique. Now we have a baseline of where to go.

Plus, there’s nothing like a fight to work out some tension.”
