2. Kyra Santoro vs Layla El

BEFORE:
Kyra Santoro and Layla El go head to head in this next match up, with the former SI swimsuit model planning to KO the former WWE wrestler, and vice versa.

“She’s good, but she’s not that good,” Layla says first at the pre-fight press conference. “She doesn’t have the in-ring experience that I do. A lot of people are saying I’m the underdog coming into this fight tonight, but Kyra’s the one who has more to learn.”

The Vixen begs to differ, of course, responding in kind with a mixture of respect and defiance: “I absolutely love what Layla has done for women’s wrestling. I grew up watching her brawl in the ring, but maybe that says more about her age than mine,” Kyra says with an early smile for the cameras.

“Oh, honey, I’m still young enough to kick your ass,” Layla says from the other end of the table. “In fact, I’ve been itching to get back into the ring after my release from WWE. I have plenty more to give, and plan to show Kyra what kind of ride she’s in for.”

Ladies square off at the podium: Kyra in an amber bikini, dressed down from her white loose blouse and long denim jeans. Layla has gone for a red bikini herself, showing off that toned body despite being about seven years Kyra’s senior. Both are respectful during the proceedings, shaking hands and wishing each other well for the coming fight.

Hours later: they’re both in the ring and ready to throw down for ten rounds of Bantamweight action. Kyra’s had a history so far of facing off against other wrestlers (like Carmella and Becky Lynch), and beaten them thus far. Can she do the same to a former WWE Divas Champion? Let’s find out! Bell rings and HERE WE GO!

ROUND 1:
Layla shows off her speed, skirting the perimeter whilst fending Kyra off with jabs towards her head. Kyra moves in with more focus, keeping her arms up and only throwing her fists forward when her foe is in range. Layla firing jabs into the arms, having trouble tagging Kyra off the forehead but doing a better job scoring to the body and chest. Santoro ain’t taking it lying down, however, bashing hooks into the arms to shake her foe down, but only successfully tossing Layla further down the ropes and failing to pin her in a corner. Layla’s far too nimble on her feet, running about the ring like she owns it. Final exchange has the ex-wrestler swerving to avoid another wide hook right after she slams a one-two into Kyra’s face to score a big round for herself.

ROUND 2:
Layla’s still smirking as she scoots in again to try and cement her lead. Kyra not allowing her to gain ground, however, planting leather into the arms to push the former wrestler back with force. Layla’s looking a little more shocked and bothered as Kyra shows off her true power, blowing her backwards with yet another cross to the arms, before another right hand whips her head back by proxy. Layla’s dazed, suddenly in retreat, but not before she takes another fast combo to the nose. Santoro hunkering after her, squared shoulders ploughing in punches into Layla’s being, at one point knocking her head back when another straight cross lands square to the nose, before another one disappears into her midsection. Layla, struggling to stay afloat, barely makes it out of there alive when she dodges to the right of another wild hook designed to take her head off. So far, so good for Santoro, who stakes a comeback with a wide second round of her own!

ROUND 3:
Layla keeps afloat, for now, digging deep and punishing the charging Santoro each time she tries to close the distance and mop up. Not if Layla can help it. Not yet at least, leaping out of the way with practised grace before planting a jab or two into the bigger woman’s nose or lips. Santoro’s still underestimating the older brunette, her own swings missing entirely overhead or hitting the air directly in front of Layla’s face. El continues to land punches to the side of Santoro’s chest, prodding that toned tummy and staying agile on both feet. It’s only late in the round when Kyra manages to corner her against the ropes and absolutely GO TO TOWN on the smaller woman, rocking her frame about with a sudden influx of hooks to the arms and body, before Layla manages to slip away by the skin of her teeth. Good round overall for Layla El, but we have to wonder how much longer she can dodge and avoid like this.

ROUND 4:
Layla breathing hard and looking gassed. She barely avoided another of Kyra’s combinations when the Vixen rode in hard and fast early on, before scattering her foe with a nasty bump to the ribs and another hook slammed into her raised guard. Layla is still on the retreat but now sending back less ammunition as she struggles to catch her breath instead. Santoro has no such trouble, by contrast, been in and seen more fights than she can count as she bashes another hook to the body before sending El spinning into the ropes with a big right hand to her temple! LAYLA’S IN TROUBLE, one hand holding onto the top rope for dear life, her mouth open and breathing hard! Here comes Santoro, looking to cash in! Left swing to the arms sends Layla El reeling down the line, with Santoro giving chase and planting more leather into her stomach and chin, stomach and chin, before a final BLAST to her face sends Layla crashing DOWN to the canvas!! Referee takes one look at the former wrestler and determines she ain’t getting back up again before the count of 10! That’s it! It’s OVER!!

Official Decision: Kyra Santoro defeats Layla El via KO4!

AFTER:
Santoro ends the year on a high note (we hope), once again banking on her superior firepower and determination to get the job done. She’s shown promise in both the JMD and Regular boxing circuits, but like some members of her cohort, struggled to garner any title traction.

“I’m not looking for a belt at this point,” Kyra later beams to reporters backstage. “I’m happy to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I ran out of the latter a long time ago.”

As for Layla, she scoops up the first loss of her professional boxing career after scooping herself off the floor. Hopefully, the transition into this type of ring isn’t too jarring for her in the long run!
