VIX Birthday Bash IV 2020

1. Alyssa Lynch vs Diana Korkunova III

Alyssa:

BEFORE:
We’re LIVE in the warm confines of VIX Headquarters, down in SoCal Los Angeles, where the Vixens and their guests are set to put on eight fights with epic consequences. Make no mistake - this here’s a celebration of four years of what VIX has accomplished but at the same time, no love lost between many of the competitors tonight, with all the fighters equally hungry to win.

First to the plate are two Bantamweights who have faced each other twice before: Alyssa Lynch representing the VIX corner, and the former BBU Flyweight champion herself, Diana Korkunova, taking on SIRENs colours in the other. Korkunova recently ended her proud win-streak over in the BBU, losing the belt to Zara Holland but only after an impressive seven title defences. She’d previously beat Alyssa in last year’s birthday bash, and both fighters see tonight as another shot at redemption.

“She was full of confidence last year when we faced off. Now, after her loss to Zara, I think she’s ready to go down again,” Alyssa says with a nod. “I’m on the same tear Diana was on the last time we fought, going through plenty of girls this year despite the lockdown and covid restrictions. I think I’ve earned my time in the spotlight.”

“One thing we can agree on: we’re both excited to open this event, and we certainly tore down the house the last two times we fought,” Diana responds later on. “Alyssa’s got great fighting spirit, so I’ve mad respect for her. But I’m the one who’s worn a title belt around my waist, and I promise that I’m the one who’s going to get it back after I beat her again tonight.”

Ladies square up in the middle of the ring: Alyssa taller by two inches but looking skinnier compared to Diana’s bulk. Lynch in a dark navy blue bikini wrap, posing with white gloves set to Diana’s chin. Korkunova dressed in a black sports bra and hot denim shorts, returns the provocative gesture with red gloves raised to Lynch's chest. Referee calls this first fight of the evening to order - there goes the bell and HERE we go with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
Diana with early aggression, rushing in and swinging without impunity, landing hooks to Alyssa’s arms left and right, and throwing the Vixen’s comeback into immediate question. Alyssa not expecting this brawl to erupt so early out of the gate, arms raised up quick as she absorbs the blows with some low-sounding grunts, Diana’s power still throwing her awkwardly to the side every couple of steps, and the Vixen barely has time to recuperate and fire back when Diana's set and back on her case, continuing to hound her with fists all over the body, slammed into the arms, as though Korkunova’s got something to prove in her first comeback fight after dropping the BBU Flyweight title a few months ago. Bell rings at the end and Lyssa looks shaken and breathing hard, realising she’s in for a hell of a third match against an unlikely rival.

ROUND 2:
Diana trying to rush in again, but this time, gets pushed back by Alyssa’s excellent footwork and jabbing capacity, the Vixen more than ready for the little spitfire’s advances, targeting her head with never-ending jabs and straight combos. Diana lets out a squeal early as another one-two catches her on that cute button of a nose, and thereafter, deters her from rushing in to punish Alyssa a second time. Lynch seizing the narrative, strides in to fill the gap with more punishment to the Siren’s head, punches scored both on her forehead and in between Diana’s arms, hitting the nose and lips in quick succession. This is reminiscent of how Diana lost her last fight to Holland, but she’s also never been properly tested by an opponent who can match her speed. Alyssa makes short work of the BBU starlet this round, beating her back and across the ring with rapid combinations.

ROUND 3:
Diana blasting Alyssa on the cheek with an early hook, sending the Vixen sprawling into the ropes with a loud grunt! Neither girl really paying attention in the first minute, short bursts of wading in and out, testing each other’s guards. That is, till Alyssa bought the sneaky feint sent to her body, lowering an arm to block but leaving her face entirely exposed to that right hook that came sailing in high instead - WHAPP! Diana shows off her bitchy side as she rushes in like a Tasmanian devil, more gloves slammed into Alyssa’s tummy on her way out, before rocking her guard with a textbook hook, as though hoping for an early knockdown. Alyssa speeds up by contrast, keeps herself a few steps ahead as she tries to survive the round with the occasional jab sent smack into Diana’s advancing face.

ROUND 4:
Back-and-forth these two go, and it’s Alyssa’s turn to knock a painful straight hand into Diana’s face, bunching up the cheek with a brief ugghh, then another one-two combo stingin’ the nostrils as Alyssa capitalises on her opponent’s slipshod stubbornness. Diana still headhunting back with her powerful swings, but unable to catch Alyssa on the head with that patented hook, instead eating more leather as Alyssa counter-attacks with hefty drills to her body, at one point snapping the Siren’s chin upwards with a lucky uppercut sent to the base of chin. Girls finally reset in the final minute, breathing hard and evaluating the other for weakness as the fourth ends.

ROUND 5:
Diana plays it smart here, keeps her distance and powers a cross-hand into the arms as counter-punching action dominates this round. Alyssa gets a taste of her own medicine as her lips are forced to eat leather early, Diana punting short but snappy jabs right through the arms at opportune moments, driving the Vixen back a few steps at a time. Lynch however still has the sense to swerve and duck under the more weighty blows, at one moment ducking to avoid a wild hook aimed at the head, then battering the tummy with a left-right combo of her own as Diana groans and gets bent in half, a follow-up swing from the Siren missing again - she just can’t quite catch the lean and mean Alyssa with just her power. Round ends with both ladies exchanging jabs from afar, but we’re gonna say Diana still took the round wide based on pure quantity.

ROUND 6:
Korkunova perhaps has changed into the local powerhouse as she continues to headhunt Alyssa with wide hooks. And who can really blame her, with her securing her first win over Alyssa precisely with a knockout hook delivered to the Vixen’s chin. She hopes to repeat that success here, one-two jab combos fired at the head to prime the brunette before a number three right hook slams in the side to knock her about silly. Lynch, however, has done much soul-searching since their last encounter, easily swerves around the bigger hooks, only to launch her own counter-swings into Diana’s cheek not just once, twice but THREE times, each shot sending Diana’s faculties further into disarray as she grunts and shakes her head, her mouth hanging open more and more in shock. Alyssa’s speed unparalleled as she bobs to another side to avoid an uppercut swung to her chin, DRILLS her own fist up and inwards - BLAM - AND DIANA’S WOBBLED, eyes shut as she takes a couple of steps backwards before falling onto her backside, her entire vision spinning! It’s a KNOCKDOWN for Alyssa Lynch, and a permanent one, it seems, as her opponent’s having trouble pulling herself back up by the ropes, Diana floundering repeatedly on her haunches as Alyssa smirks with satisfaction from her own corner when the referee hits the 10-count and WAVES the fight off!

Official Decision: Alyssa Lynch defeats Diana Korkunova via KO6!

AFTER:
Sweet payback from their last encounter, as Alyssa puts away a potential rival in six rounds this time. The Vixen may be breathing a little heavy, but that confident smile indicates she’s got plenty left in the tank to go another ten rounds if need be. She raises a hand to the audience, glad to have won this opening bout in an already stacked line-up.

Diana on the other hand continues her downward spiral - she probably thought that beating Alyssa for a second time made the brunette the logical choice of a comeback opponent. Sadly, she’s seen shaking her head by the ropes, near tears as her corner brings her around to the turnbuckle, the Siren too crestfallen to speak to the press later on as well. It’s supposed to be a VIX/SIR birthday bash, but unfortunately, by the end of the night, there still has to be a winner and loser.

“She’s overrated, that’s how I feel,” Alyssa lets out a short laugh to reporters by ring-side later. “To think she was once BBU Flyweight champion? All fire in here,” Alyssa points to the middle of her chest. “But not much up here.” She points to her forehead for emphasis. “In this game, you need both to be a champ.”
