Before: With both girls leaving the canvas littered with the bodies of battered brunettes over the last few months, this bout is hyped as being a showdown for the distinction of being the best blonde in the game. Theron actually the younger of the two, but Jones the less travelled, having had in effect, 2 separate careers separated by a long hiatus. Similar styles, though Jones actually defends herself on occasion.

During R1: Cautious first round as both girls are wary of the other’s KO power. Charlize the sharper of the two, takes the play away from Jones, then settles into a nice rhythm with one-twos to the bell.

R2: Charlize continues to box effectively, but the wheels come off badly midway through the round. A sharp left hook counter off a lazy Theron right hand stuns Charlize, whose legs bend dangerous before locking up. She leans forward, stumbling into a murderous helping of lefts and rights from Janet, and a blistering right uppercut between the mitts straightens Charlize before she collapses on her face. It’s a KO blow for anyone else, but somehow Theron beats the count, literally out on her feet as Janet wades in. Jones welts the flanks of the big South African with hard lefts and rights to the bell. Theron wanders to the wrong corner before being guided back to her seconds.

R3: Janet Jones tears Charlize Theron apart this round, With Theron still badly wobbled, Janet launches into a murderous series of straight rights to the skull, draping Charlize over the ropes. Theron staggery, sagging into the ropes is battered senseless by the pumping, on stop left and right haymakers of Janet. Janet sets and slugs, pounding Charlize with three straight right crosses, driving the blonde along the ropes to a corner where more mayhem results. Charlize seems blissfully ignorant of what’s happening to her as her half-closed eyes and putting mouth seem blank in response. Janet just shoves and slugs to the bell, propping Charlize back and connecting with lusty blows to the body and head. Theron staggers out of the neutral corner at the bell, eyes badly swollen, mouth shut—she’s a mess.

R4: Janet again leads with the right, crunching Charlize square in the forehead and immediately breaking down Theron’s already badly degraded form. Janet wails away as she has for several minutes now, but Charlize gets a second wind from somewhere, and starts punching back midway through the bell. By the final minute, Theron appears exhausted, but is just catching Jones a split second before she punches, and manages to back Janet up to the bell. Charlize staggers past Janet to her corner—she’s got a long comeback in front of her.

R5: Jones complains of soreness in her hands during the break, but she comes out pulverizing again this round, unleashing crashing right hands from a wide stance to once again force Charlize to the ropes. Theron is a pitiful sight, fists at chest level, head snapping back and forth as Janet plows her without fear. Jones’ pace slows as she uses her forearms to measure Charlize for biting single hooks, working the blonde over mercilessly in her own corner. Theron takes a dreadful beating, then simply sits down in a heap at the bell.

R6: Charlize too battered to be effective, Janet too exhausted. Sweat drenched dancers do a lot of clutching and waltzing this round. Janet cruelly rubs her laces in Charlize’s sore eyes to good effect.

R7: Janet learns why you never stop punching against Charlize Theron. Jabbing sloppily, Janet falls prey to some clubbing left hooks from Charlize and gradually gets drawn into a toe to toe slugfest at close range. Charlize unfurls that short Joe Louis right to the chin midway through the round and Janet comes unglued. Jones staggers forward, and it’s Charlize who dishes out the punishment, hammering Janet with short rights, stepping to the right and bringing the punch down on a clear angle to the jaw from the side.

R8: Janet Jones spends a round on the rope, defending her head better than had Charlize earlier, but her waist takes a beating as Theron leans and slugs with authority downstairs. All Charlize as she methodically bludgeons Janet this round.

R9: Janet senses Theron’s comeback and uses her legs to shut Charlize out this round. Janet has it easy, circling the blundering, punch-drunk Theron, pecking cruelly at her swollen eyes with jabs, and numbing her with flush right crosses to the chin. Charlize plows forward into it all, giving the crowd it’s money’s worth, but unable to hurt Janet back.

R10: All Janet early as the movement really solves Charlize entirely, but in the finalo minute, Theron almost pulls it out. Cutting off the ring, Charlize pounds a hard Lucia Rijker right to the ribs that forces Janet to cringe I pain, and a veryu heavu handed flurry ends with a right uppercut that has Janet hanging on. Time runs out on Charlize as she slugs away at the sides of her foe—Janet takes a unanimous decision in savage fashion.

After: Charlize is attended to once again by personal physicians after another bout in which she is battered unrecognizable by her opponent. This time, the magic wassn’t there as Janet put the hammer to Charlize, and stripped her of all semblance of dignity with a vicious beating. Even Theron’s effectiveness late had a Gattiesque feel of doom to it as Janet was more amazed than threatened by her implacable foe. Jones steps to the front of the class with this callous victory—an intimidating performance for others to consider.
