Before: Smith wants some rounds and Zeta Jones gets elected to give them, but some are saying Catherine shouldn’t be underestimated, especially veterans who may be o the down side of their careers. Boxing equivalent of dinner theatre, few see this intriguing bout—non televised, small arena. Teal Adidas short and white jogbra for CTS, black jogbra nd red Adidas for CZJ, hair ornate braid.

During:

R1: It starts out civil enough, with Zeta Jones looking surprisingly mobile, popping a double left jab and simply stepping nimbly to her left. Courtney flings backhanded jabs at the body and head, also moving to her left, Smith seems to be dictating the temp, when Zeta Jones takes away her sightline with a loose left, then comes across with slingshot right, and Courtney is stunned. Smith hits the canvas hard, flat out on her back, coming up on her elbows, legs trembling, eyes wide—she is seriously hurt. Smith rolls to her side, desperately clambers up the ropes and is checked closely by the ref before continuing. Zeta Jones moves in and blisters Courtney with hooks to the ears, and short uppercut between the gloves, but shows her inexperience by not going to the body. Smith defences well, and begins to bang hard counters to the stomach of Zeta Jones, fighting her way back off the ropes, and actually forcing the brunette across the ring to the other side. An innocent sweeping right hand seems to graze Jones’ temple, but her knees buckle and she does the funky chicken down the ropes, nearly going down. It’s all Smith to the bell as SHE finishes like a pro, banging one-twos downstairs, opening Zeta Jones to punishment up top, Who do you like—the single devastating blow, or the effective flurry? Judges give Jones the nod, but it’s only 10-9.

R2; Courtney proves she was the real winner in the first, coming out confident this round and quickly hemming the still wobbly Jones in a neutral corner. Smith sees she can land that overhand right and continues to bash away, also seeking opportunities in Catherine’s gut. Jones hurt and groggy this round, is having trouble with Smiths varied attack and handspeed. Shutout Courtney.

R3: Courtney keeps the pressure on as Jones has no legs left. Wicked hooks to the body have the beautiful brunette grimacing, but she stands her ground for some exciting exchanges midway through the round. Courtney too strong, finishes by walking Jones to the ropes, fighting off her chest and tanning her midsection to the bell.

R4: Another grinding round for Courtney as she walks through an exhausted Zeta Jones this round, pounding relentlessly with body shots without fear of reprisal, Jones stands in, takes a pounding, then pulls away with trembling lips, only to set up her guard and take more shots. Smith very effective breaking Jones down, uses the body to set up the looping right hand. In the final minute, she catches Jones going backward with the same punch that dazed her before, but this time, Jones is too battered to offer resistance. She slumps on the ropes and is immediately taken apart by Smith’s accurate combinations. A particularly vicious left hook leaves Jones slack jawed and helpless, prompting referee interventions. TKO Courtney as she comes back to stop a game, young contender.

After: For the time first in a long time, Courtney came back from adversity, showing a will to win that many had assumed was no longer there. She was as hurt as she could be in the first, but found a way to turn things around, and suddenly, with a brace of wins under her belt, Courtney is looking for bigger and better things once again.
