Before: Rivalry doesn’t get a lot of play this side of the Atlantic, but for sheer hatred, there’ no more bitter relationship in boxing. “These girls have been at one another’s throats their entire careers,” notes one British scribe who’s made the trip, “Britain’s real not big enough for the two of them--when one’s up, she’s usually got her foot on the other’s throat. It’s nasty. Jones dazzled in her first round bout, getting by Latina Jlo via exciting KO, but Hurley beat Jennifer Garner to get here--hard to say if anyone’s got the momentum edge coming in. Red bikini, low ponytail Catherine, metallic off the shoulder blue bikini Liz.

During R1: Jones shows boxing, then rushes in to wrap up under Liz’s arms--Hurley trying to jump back, keep her distance and JONES GOES CROTCH! CZJ teeth bared weight on her front foot and she’s REEFING hooks to the trunks--Hurley is shock--Jones muscles in, tackles her to rope, stacks her back, hooks he trunks, right hand to trunks, shoving, jostling--ref rushes in, Liz sinks sobbing to her knees--it’s carnage. Hurley given a moment--Cat a harsh finger waggle, then Jones wades back in. Liz ashambles--Jones able to palm her shoulders, open up her stance and press her against the ropes. Rude work being done to Liz’s ribcage--and her tits! Jones working in close, pancaking those puppies like they’ve insulted her--it’s wanton brutality. Hurley blubbering, limp as she tries to toe Jones up. Final moments, cracking Jones right uppercut on the chin sits Hurley dazed in the strands--dazzling flurry of clubbing lefts and rights on the face bashes the mouthpiece off Liz’s mouth. Bell sounds, ref bodies Jones back and a shabby Liz Hurley sits in the ropes with no idea what just happened.

R2: Hurley all busted up, but the lights are back on--chin tucked behind that right shoulder. Right hand low, left hand up, she’s ready for business. Jones marching in, but she takes cuffing counter hooks as Hurley fades back--CJZ sputtering--Liz able to double and triple up the hook and slink around the left side of Jones. Brilliant round of boxing for Liz as she slides to her right, jabs to distraction, cuffs her with that slapping right hook, keeps her off balance. Liz using her shoulder well inside, getting low and nudging CZJ back whenever Jones threatens to get close and work.

R3: Jones tightening up her strokes--Liz turning right, slipping punches, but Catherine’s stepping with her, putting short right hands up the middle in rapid fire sequences. Hurley making Jones miss, but she’s getting swamped--CZJ flooding the defense with crisp punches in bunches.

R4: Starts when Liz walks Jones into that swatting right hook on ear--Jones leaning out over her feet, covering up--Hurley edges in, stuffs the left hand to the mouth, then REEFS righty at the ribcage to put wobble in Jones’ trunks. Jones wilting, hurting, sagging to ropes--Hurley crowding with the right at her thigh, left at her cheek as she snuggles her right shoulder into Jones, working tight combinations on her girl. Midway through, Jones slugs back--murderous, ripping hooks in the tummy, shunting Liz’s hips back, then tapping hard off the trunks to draw woozy cries of outrage, Hurley clinching, looking for breaks, but Jones won’t have it--she’s putting mitts together on Hurley’s ribs and Liz is hurt! Spanking barrage to the ribs has Liz sobbing--she turns away, takes  a knee and her nightmare’s just beginning. After 8--Jones lunges in, pressing Hurley into the ropes, then swinging at the waistline, belly hip, crotch--it’s all the same to Jones and HURLEY GOES DOWN! Liz gasping on all fours--Jones parading with hand held high--and there’s more! Liz takes a swaying 8, tries to bundle up under Jones marauding assault and Catherine unleashes a heartless barrage. Hurley doubled forward, protecting a savaged middle, Jones scalding he back and Kidney with raking hooks, getting twinges and flinches as Hurley stumbles forward. LIZ GOES DOWN! Hurley dropped for the third time in the round--she’s all busted up, hands at her back she sits up stiff on her haunches. She’ll beat the count, but a grinning Catherine Zeta Jones takes a rare 10-6 to her corner.

R5: Catherine’s got the brawl she wanted--Hurley desperate behind, can’t afford to be cute. Liz supple when she wants to bang, right hand at her thigh--she edges her right shoulder into cat and works with cuffing righty hook, sneaky left uppercuts tits and chin inside. Jones with her mitts at her temples, pressing her face into Liz, then scrounging at her flanks, coming up off the body with wicked uppercuts. Hardhearted stuff--Jones starting to talk it up in there, breaking Hurley’s spirit through 5.

R6: Liz pressing up her right shoulder, then stepping out--she’s letting Jones fall forward, picking her up with right hooks on the ear or slick right uppercuts, then falling off to the right side. End of the first minute--press-up, righty hook from Liz--she ducks under a wild Jones right hand, swings back a whippy left behind the ear and JONES IS SCATTERED TO ALL FOURS! CZJ up quick, but she’s looking worn--she’s thrown a lot of punches in this fight. Liz crowds in and it’s a supple one-way beating along the ropes as Jones covers up to conserve energy. Hurley biting the right hook in under the elbow, pulling hooks across Jones’ jugs when available. Smoldering looks at the bell--Liz still has something left.

R7: Grubby fighting on the inside--girls rubbing their faces into each other bodying each other back. Jones with tighter, more compact punching--Hurley cute as she land sto the body, slides around the side, makes Catherine moves her feet. Another tough, close round--goes to Hurley.

R8: Hard-hearted stuff on the inside, broken up in the second minute when Jones gets to Hurley with a series of tight lefts and rights, Liz backing away, trying to slip, but getting tagged half a dozen times--she hit’s the rope shabby and bends forward hurt. Cat looming over her girl, right hand right to her cheek--she hammers at the flank and lower back with rapacious hooks, shaking Hurley’s gorgeous legs with pain. Hurley open-mouthed, teary-eyed--she gets out of the round with a series of hurting clinches up under Jones’ arms.

R9: Jabs from Hurley, slide to the right--Jones walking in and she takes a HUGE hesitation left from Liz. CZJ wobbly butt, covered up--Hurley steps right, right hand resting on Jones’ shoulder while lanky lefts sweep up and in underneath. Jones sobbing aloud, falling in to clinch--now it’s Hurley struggling to free herself. Jones pushed up against the ropes and LIZ UNLEASHES! Lush, slinging shots, all supple leverage--Liz Hurley treating herself o Catherine’s hips, back, chest and chin--Jones bending back and forward, arms crossed. Right hand across the mouth undoes Catherine’s legs--she drifts right, mouthpiece dropping off her teeth--Liz stepping with, putting punches on the face and JONES GOES DOWN! Catherine on her back, eyelashes fluttering and it’s OVER! Catherine can’t beat the count--KO9 is spectacular fashion Liz Hurley!

After: Jones on her haunches, sobbing uncontrollably in a lonely corner--Hurley beaten unrecognizable,  collapsing in her trainer’s arms: what a brawl! Hurley down 4 times, refusing to quit, she kept at Catherine like a termite, boring into her rival’s lead, chipping away at her will until the final, dramatic collapse. Afterwards, Hurley hauling the distraught Welshwoman off her stool, chest to chest, the putting the right arm brawny around the waist for a shattering walk of shame. Nothing like Liz Hurley displaying a conquered Catherine Zeta Jones for fans of British boxing: the shame and devastation on Jones’ face.
