Rounds 1 to 5 were about one thing: how much damage could Rena Sofer do to Kari Wuhrer and not actually knock the old war horse out? Kari beaten relentlessly around the ring as Sofer tore up the gut, worked the rack checked the chin with a furious lather of taut punches in combination and eventually dropped Kari to all fours in the fifth. But Wuhrer had survived—Rena has spent up all her money and the second half would see a shopworn Sofer in steady retreat before a badly battered Wuhrer. Where Sofer had been torrid, Kari was patient and muscular—walking Rena down, landing one crashing right hand over the top, mopping up hooks underneath, bodying up to press Sofer ropeside. Wuhrer got the knockdown back in the 8^th, simply bludgeoning away with strong lefts and ropey rights until Sofer crumbled to one knee and in the final 2 heats were desperation scrapping at its finest. Sofer put an end to any doubts midway through the 10^th when she tugged a hook across Kari’s chin and put Wuhrer wobbly butt and destitute for good. Kari was a helpless vixen at the ropes, soaking up body shots and hooks to ear/jaw as Sofer worked hard to the bell, Sofer the surprise of the tournament advances to the final. Wuhrer shows unbelievable heart in absorbing the worst punishment dished out in the tourney this far.
