Samara Weaving vs Elodie di Patrizi

Before: Patrizi won a lightweight bout earlier this month, not the fighter a bantam really wants to face to break a slide on the sand. Alas, Samara not in a position to be choosy. So with a time crunch and no other options, this is what she has to work with.

Elodie in sturdy black bikini; dark rows tied back in scruffy bundle of dreads; black gloves. Samara in vivid blue bikini; scruffy beach bun with long strands framing face; white gloves.

R1: Girls hop-to, bouncing on balls of feet while fetching each other hooks: breasts and faces buffeted early. Samara in with an overhand right, charging forward while slugging: Elodie swinging away wide, clouting Weaving behind the head a swinging left as blonde hurtles into ropes. Samara scrambling to reorient, slugging right hands off the left foot/left hands off the right foot as she comes forward—Elodie beaten backwards at the stagger, keeping hands up. Fight burble along ropes as girls squirm tummy to tummy—di Patrizi writhing to reverse position and keep her back 0ff the ropes. Fighters trip to sand at one point, continue their tight embrace—legs thrashing as girls struggle to get on top while ref’s tugging ‘em up. Rambunctious action a little too wild to be effective. Upside is plenty of jiggling, stamping movement, desperate grunting as neither girtls shies away from the other. Both fighters have to stand during the interval as towel girls are busy in both corners.

R2: Elodie combative, but outgunned: Samara able to come forward, work her girl to ropes, get a body on her, and maul in earnest. It’s a patient Weaving, an effective Aussie, looking to get hands and tummy on di Patrizi, smother her first, then do damage, blonde reaching in behind brunette to grab ropes; bumping hard with head/shoulders/elbows—anything to keep Elodie pinned down. Exhausting stuff—round played out on the ropes near the IBB corner as Samara dominates the ring with forward pressure, wedges in punches to the body and head from zero distance. Di Patrizi squirming and fighting her heart out—not giving in at all, taking a tremendous amount of roughhouse and jamming punches—but still competing.

R3: Samara pushing the pace…but paying the price: Elodie POUNDING one-twos to the left eye, winning pained winces from the little bully. Weaving daring di Patrizi’s long jab, but encountering active resistance when she scoots inside, Italian no longer looking to step back--she’s competing, trying for lanky uppercuts and tight-swipe hooks as the girls struggle head-on-head/shoulder to shoulder. Samara still stronger, busier on the inside; but now Elodie dictating ring position on the outside. Very rough round to score as both fighters finds ways to compete.

R4: Girls just RIPPING into each other, cheek to cheek, banging belly, then hooking jaw, and it’s Samara getting the better of the smash-mouth—shouldering and nudging Elodie into the corner by the end of the first minute. Di Patrizi puts her feet wide and digs in to trade—crowd roaring as Weaving gets her head under Italian chin, pushing and shoving on the shoulders and chest of the girl to get Elodie straightened up, then digging away at the taut gut with both fists. Weaving drifting low on occasion, di Patrizi answering back with swift justice as both fighters warned for cheapness this round.

R5: Elodie aggressively to midring, eyes cold--she gets to work on Samara’s sweet face with cruel, stabbing stick work. Weaving flustered in her attempts to close--face getting spanked, she’s brought up short, bending at the waist, busting up some as di Patrizi attacks the eyes and nose with spearing lefts. Elodie drilling right hands straight up the middle, spanking back face,. Coming back with straight lefts, wheeling to her left--vintage boxing has Samara unraveling, taking chances. Midway through, di Patrizi gets her umpteenth straight right hand onto Weaving’s teeth, rolls to her left to get under a flailing Aussie right, then LICKS that coiled left uppercut clean to the chin! SAMARA GOES DOWN! Weaving on her backside, pounding sand in frustration--she gets up and looks forlorn as her legs won’t obey her. ON COMES ELODIE! Di Patrizi striding in, then POUNDING in the straight right, back with the left--threading punches through Weaving’s guard. Samara stiffening, not moving her head as well--she’s framing her face with her guard and getting shredded as Elodie really lets her hands go, busting Weaving up something horrible AND THE REF STEPS IN!—Elodie evening the score to as she notches the TKO5 as IBB and O&E remain stalemated!
