Before: Huge mismatch on paper entirely Casta's call, seen in most quarters as misplaced rebellion. "It's pretty common," says one venerable scribe, "We've seen it with Denise Richards, Charisma Carpenter - the so-called 'bimbo boxers' who get tired of the lable and want legitimate, fighting woman's respect from promoters and fans alike. Win or lose, Casta probably gets that tonight - it's just flat out bold to demand a Meyer fight." Question is, is there ANY chance for the curvy young lingerie model? "A lot of the focus has been on Casta's inadequacies for this bout," says Tyra Banks, covering the fight for Victoria's Secret, "but Meyer isn't a robot. Dina's been hurt in almost all her fights, albeit against true lightweights or bigger. And Dina's been inactive - she's coming off the longest layoff of her career for this fight and making a contract 120 apparently wasn't easy. I don't think Laetitia's got a chance to win, but she should be able to compete with Dina more effectively than some people think." Red bikini, black shoes Laetitia, Royal blue bikini, boy cut bottoms, black shoes, Meyer.

During R1: Dina dazzling with blinding hooks and crosses to get Laetitia's head bobbling - brunette backs straight up and Meyer steps her down punching - sizzling lefts and rights to chase Casta hard to the ropes. Laetitia busted up early, clinching for dear life - referee breaks 'em up and the girls reset midring. Meyer lunging in again - too much speed and hitting power - Casta collapses backward, Meyer landing a series of running right hands to the face as she chases Casta to the ropes once more. At the ropes, Meyer jumps to the side, blasting away with savage hacking lefts and rights off Laetitia's left shoulder - brunette goes out on her feet, soaking up dreadful punching to her face - Casta cut in the mouth, bleeding from the nose as the crowd starts to scream in discomfort. Final minute - Meyer winded from sustained power punching, props the ruined brunette up on the ropes and goes to her breasts with clubbing action - just turning her shoulders to jam short punches into the cushy goodness. Laetitia open mouthed and staring at the bell, can't answer back, hands in her lap as she lolls on the ropes - Meyer struts back to her corner with hands high, shouting "IT'S OVER! IT'S OVER!"

R2: Casta shaking off her corner, wobbles out for the second frame. Meyer with a hard glint in her eyes, stepping in, out and around, feinting the shellshocked model, then suddenly ripping over the top with looping lead right that lands flush, sends a tremor through Casta's legs. Laetitia sputtering straight back again - Meyer able to step into the void, land crashing punches to get the brunette toppling all the way to the ropes. Casta helpless, gloves at her lips, eyes sleepy as Meyer goes to work - Dina more methodical, taking something off the fast ball to place her punches better this round. Meyer working at the ropes, dipping her shoulders to reef up into the tender belly, bring those hands down, then stepping over to the side to land right uppercuts or left hooks in tight off Laetitia's left shoulder. Casta looks like she's done 10 meat grinding rounds after back to back shutouts - face is a pounded ruin, she's cringing from body hurt, but refusing to submit on her stool.

R3: Casta pushing out weak lefts and rights, getting back shattering lefts and rights on the face in return - blistering connects midring finally prove too much as Laetitia crumbles to all fours midring. Dina prancing, circling the ring with hands high - Casta taking a shaky 8 - fight quickly degenerating into a senseless beating as Meyer smiles, wades in to finish. Casta battered to the ropes and worked over - she's tragic, hands at her face, elbows in, often turning sideways to the ropes and just leaning there as punches bash down and up into her. Meyer helping herself to fistfuls of unresisting breast at the ends of these rounds, pumping away as a slack faced Laetitia Casta barely registers the pain. Third consecutive shutout Dina Meyer.

R4: Meyer steps inside a pathetic Casta jab, skids a fishook left against the brunette's exposed sternum and buckles the model's legs for the umpteenth time tonight. Truth is, Casta's taken a tremendous punch upstairs - Meyer walks her back with crunching ribwork for the first time, right and left roundhouses to the flanks that have Casta sobbing, sagging into the ropes. Meyer visibly slowing down, bodying up to take rests on her girl - still totally in control, but it's been 12 minutes of balls-out effort for the blonde and she's starting to blow.

R5: CASTA STARTS TO PUNCH! Meyer mouth breathing, joins Laetitia mid ring and flat footed slogging erupts, with Casta holding her own, then taking some of Meyer's away in mindless slobberknocking exchanges. Meyer getting clocked clean on the chin, taking the punches well, but she's arm weary - Casta shaking off clean shots on her chin as well as the girls pitch from the hips. Crowd loving the hurting back and forth, and down the stretch, Laetitia starts beating Dina to punches to back the blonde up and win the round.

R6: Casta with her hands down, horribly beaten but unbowed, wades into Dina and starts stroking jaw with lashing, full bodied right hands. Meyer with a stunned look - she's not hurt, but obviously amazed that Casta's able to punch at this point, takes a lot of punches on the left side of her head and backs up much of the round. Meyer not giving Laetitia angles or getting off first the way she was - it's all tit for tat - Casta licking one of her long limbed punches upside Dina's face, Meyer twisting her torso to chop a more compact response from her hips. Both girls a little drowsy as Meyer's face starts to scuff up some after 6.

R7: Casta's been lathering away with paintbrush strokes to the jawline of the blonde - she comes out and surprises Meyer with a limber, stroking hook along the jaw, then a stuffing right hand to the pit of the stomach that catches Meyer loading up her own right hand. MEYER'S HURT - surprised by the gutshot, she folds forward and CASTA HAMMERS AWAY! Laetitia fighting on instinct, stepping back to nail wide lefts and rights as Meyer topples forward - Dina fielding every punch on her available jaw as the lights starts to dim. Girls tumble into the ropes and it's mindless, agonized brawling! Casta with her hands down, using her shoulders and chest to nudge Meyer, then coming over with the licking roundhouse to set blonde head a-bobbling. Meyer trying to smother, but Casta doing a nice job of stepping back and extending on her lanky power punches - she's clapping Dina senseless! Down the stretch, Laetitia with her back to the ropes, left hand weary at her side starts pumping right uppercuts as Dina slumps forward, practically lolling on the brunette. Meyer not punching, just shuddering as the uppercuts jerk home in sweaty confines and suddenly, Dina implodes! Casta stumbles to the side along the ropes as Meyer puddles to lie insensate on her face - unbelievable KO7 Laetitia Casta!

After: Mind boggling upset the biggest since Fishel/Luner - stunned fans at ringside mirror the groggy shock on Laetitia's own face at the sight of the used up blonde near the ropes. Horrible energy management from Meyer saw her over-indulge in the first half - beating Laetitia to a pulp, but unable to quench the fire within. Casta soaking up the beating of a lifetime, able to steady the ship and start punching - not boxing - just punching her way back into this fight and Meyer had nothing left. Casta woozy in victory, hearing the chants of "WALK! WALK! WALK!" from the crowd but too hurt to oblige them. Meyer pale and shaken by the beating - lost look in dazed eyes tells the story, "I...I don't know where this leaves me," says Dina in post fight, "I just...I really don't know." Luner was never the same after losing to Dani, pundits already wondering if Meyer's been broken in the same fashion. For Casta, all doors are open. "She's the hottest ticket in the FCBA right now," says one smiling HBO suit, "We'd like to make Richards/Casta tomorrow if that's what she wants."

(Simguy note: A truly special result - but what does it mean? I wouldn't campaign at lightweight if I were Casta's mgmt, although she can obviously step up for the right fight on an individual basis. Back at bantam, I HAVE to give her a superior chin, above average stroke, but I still see her as hittable and relatively basic on offense. Still, as a determined slugger, Casta has to be considered a top contender with this result - a girl who has a chance to beat anybody sub120. Good gamble - this is the kind of thing that changes my impression of a girl, makes me think I had underestimated her previously).
