Before: Challenger’s a big favourite in this one and Dunning doesn’t like it. “Hey,. I’m the champion,” laments Debbe, “I was winning titles when Catherine Bell was waiting tables somewhere. Nobody just shows up and gives me a beating--Catherine Bell better bring her A game or I’ll run her butt out of the ring.” bell for her part very respectful, acknowledging Dunning’s past accomplishments, but stopping just short of giving the champ any real chance to retain. Dunning’s a hard-nosed brawler to be sure, but Bell’s technical edge and relentless precision an awfully tough order for the big hitting, but limited champ. Bell in electric blue bikini, Dunning in purple Asics beach volleyball style bikini.

During R1: Dunning out with hands low, sweeping wrap around lefts and rights as she stomps forward, daring Bell to trade. Cat giving ground, keeping her gloves up and just taking look. Midway through, Dunning misses a wild right hand, but coming back with a slinging hook catches Bell by surprise on the jaw, jerking the challenger sideways and leaving her stunned. Debbe palming, bullying Cat to the ropes, heaps on a nice final minute, bouncing wide lefts and rights off the rib cage, shouldering Bell back, starting to pile up points on Debbe’s face and lean body.

R2: Bell shakes it off and starts to work her fight plan. Dunning punches wide--Cat stays in the pocket, firing straight up the middle to consistently beat double D to the punch. Bell bending in and down, rather than backing off--Dunning missing over the top and leaving herself vulnerable to counter left hooks on the lips. Dunning spanking hip or shoulder with the occasional shot, but Cat’s got the initiative back, starting to pile up points on Debbe’s face and lean body.

R3: Long-limbed brunettes trade witrhe3ring hooks to the body midring at the open--it’s Dunning giving way with a tell-tale tremble in her legs and a grimace on her lips--Bell walking her down, peering out over her gloves with intense concentration. Cat spiking the jab to bang back Dunning’s head, ruining the champ’s timing, and a sharp right cross sits DD down in a heartbeat. Exhaling through pursed lips--Dunning gets to her feet, but those shot legs are looking up--Bell jabbing chest to get Debbe ropeside, weight on the back foot until just the right moment then BASHING that right cross off the champ’s jaw. DOWN GOES DUNNING! Debbe caught flush, goes limp, then swoons to all fours in deep trouble. Brave brunette beats the count, but she’s got that vacant stare as bell bores in and goes to work. Sobering punishment to the waist as bell curls lefts and rights to the flat stomach, then comes off the body to drift the champ through the teeth--Dunning’s face snapping side to side as she slumps forward, arms across her belly. Dunning makes it out of the round, but she’s busted up and badly worked over--corner feverishly bringing her around as Bell calmly receives a few key ideas for the finish.

R4: Starts with the jab--Cat stepping in and spearing it to Debbe’s face--champ’s tragically shot legs stumbling backwards as she holds her hands low, still thinking “slug” when she should be thinking “clinch”. Breaking Debbe down through the first minute, Cat starts to mix in crushing short right hands from the shoulder, bending into these bombs and pounding them hard off chin. Bell setting up her punches beautifully, has Dunning catching flush and a postcard perfect cross separates Dunning’s brain from her legs at the two-minute mark, pitching the champ sideways to the canvas for a heartbreaking knockdown. Dunning with an arm trapped beneath her , lolls to her side all but stopped--somehow clambers to her feet before 10. Bell heaping on to the finish, using the forearms to brace against the brunette before swishing into tough one-twos at close range, dunning lumping up badly through 4--some at ringside call for the fight to be stopped.

R5: Bell’s dreadful patience on show--she spikes the jab, inching her way into range for the right hand, but not forcing anything--she commits only when Dunning looks dazed or out of position, then a merciless right hand splatters across the face to add a precise increment of punishment. Dunning flailing now, often swinging herself wildly off balance--Bell always with her feet beneath her, ducks, counters efficiently, and piling on with the second and third punch to keep Dunning reeling. Down the stretch, Bell dips her shoulder and digs hard hooks to the flat tummy--breaking her girl down and suddenly BELL GETS HURT! A clapping right hand out of nowhere stuns Bell upside the head, draping her chest forward over the top rope and leaving her wobbly butt! Dunning piling on, pounding crude right hands to the back of the head, then face as Bell turns around--ref jumps in to break--Bell swooning at the ropes as Dunning wades back in. Debbe d squares up and lays waste, grimly punching side to side through Cat’s jaw--champ’s forearms scraping under the chin on follow through, pushing Cat’s face back and forth with a scrubbing action--Bell taking flush lefts and rights on her face as she swoons forward at the waist. AND BELL GOES DOWN! Bludgeoned senseless, lying on her face, lips parted against the canvas CATHERINE BELL IS OUT! Dunning in shock, lifts her mitts and struts groggily around the ring with a startling KO5!

After: Superdome crowd stunned, but roaring enthusiastically as Dunning as hoisted high on the shoulders of her supporters--a devastated Cat Bell is led helplessly from the ring the shocking recipient of perhaps the worst upset of her career. Dunning making good on the puncher’s chance, at best maybe a round away from defeat herself and once again proving herself and once again proving herself to be amongst the sport’s most exciting performers.
