Emily Ratajkowski vs. Naomi Scott

BEFORE:

Two top bantams in this one, with the fast-rising Naomi looking to claim another scalp in Emily, who's become a regular in the title picture. And, as usual, Scott with plenty of confidence coming in. "She's good, yes," says Naomi with a nod. "But, let's keep in mind I've already beaten BETTER girls."

"She may have beaten 'better' girls," says Emily with a snarl. "But, she's not beating THIS girl."

ROUND ONE:

Both fighters aggressive early, going right after one another, but, it's Emily who quickly gets the better of things, catching Scott with some hard right hands and sending her slowly into reverse. Before she knows what's happening, Naomi's on the back foot and Ratajkowski is keeping her there with flurry after flurry of hard shot. Scott not hurt, but she is being effectively suppressed by some excellent offense from the older woman, who's got the engine firing on all cylinders almost immediately. Scott plays defense decently, countering here and there, keeping Emily honest, but Ratajkowski's in control from the beginning of the round until the bell sounds, and, when it does, she's left no doubt. It's Emily very wide in the first and with the early 10-9 advantage.

ROUND TWO:

Emily presses, but now Scott firing back hard. She's not going to get thrown onto the defensive again. In fact, this time, EMILY is going to. Scott grabs an advantage early, catching her rival's attention with some hard flurries, and, all of a sudden, it's Ratajkowski who's doing the backing and covering. Consortium corner loving this, and so is Scott. She's getting into a nice rhythm, keeping Emily off balance, not letting her rival get anything going offensively. Ratajkowski lands a shot here or there, but it's all one-punch stuff. Only Naomi's putting punches together, and she's doing it will, piling up points and hurt, too, right to the final bell. When it rings, there's, for the second round in a row, no doubt about it. Naomi's taken it wide and evened things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Now it's Naomi who's trying to press and Emily who's having none of it. Ratajkowski holding her ground, banging back, and, for just a moment, we've got a FIREFIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING. Then, it seems like both fighters think better of tossing in the reserves this early in the fight and we settle down to boxing. And, here's where you'd think the veteran Emily would have the advantage. But, it doesn't turn out that way. In fact, Scott gives as good as she gets on these terms, showing plenty of speed and slickness of her own, enough of both, in fact, to not only offset the points Emily's scoring on these terms, but to pull slightly, ever so slightly, ahead as the round goes on. By the time the bell rings, it's Scott who's managed to take the points narrowly and grab the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

More boxing. Fight terms seemingly settled now, with both brunette beauties willing to box with, because both clearly believe they can succeed doing it. And, neither is wrong. There's plenty of good stuff to see here, a round purists love. Plenty of foot movement. Plenty of hand movement. Plenty of head movement. Hands go out and come right back. Slick defense is played with few openings for punches. But, everyone of those openings, the ones permitted by the defender or created by the girl on offense, is filled with leather. It's back and forth two way stuff, and, again, Naomi proves she can do this with Emily. But, this time, it's not Scott who builds the small lead as the round goes along, it's Ratajkowski. And, when the bell sounds, Emily's taken it narrowly and evened things again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

More boxing and another two-way round. Again, the purists have to be loving what they're seeing. Both fighters playing both offense and defense effectively the entire way, creating openings for punches, landing hard, accurate shot despite the excellence of the defense. Nobody's hurt, but everybody's getting everybody's attention. Emily lands a couple of rights about mid-round that leads to a brief period when she threatens to take control of the round, but Naomi gets things back to even, and, down the stretch, has a little run of her own, actually throwing Ratajkowski onto the defensive for a bit, scoring well with both hands. Emily's back on even terms by the time the bell rings, but the late rally by Scott plays. She grabs the points by a narrow margin and goes back into the lead 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Back to boxing, both fighters still putting on a show of skill on these terms. Lots of movement, lots of activity with the hands. And, again, no one able to ga...BOOM! Right hand, EMILY! And Naomi is stumblin', rumblin', fumblin' around the ring! Ratajkowski ALL IN immediately, as she's looking to get the younger woman out of there ASAP. She pummels Scott into the ropes and has at her, tossing everything but the...OK, that was the kitchen sink right there! Everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink at her. Scott hanging on in a high guard, trying to block and roll with, but taking an absolute LICKING as the ref looks in, prepared to stop this thing at any moment. But, try as she might, Ratajkowski can't find the off switch or bring the ref in to bundle Naomi to safety. At the bell, Scott's still standing. But, Emily's taken it wide and has evened things one more time at 57.

ROUND SEVEN:

Emily rampant. Scott's legs are shaky in the extreme, and Ratajkowski takes full advantage of it, stepping to the younger woman and simply bullying her around the ring, making with the heavy leather every chance she gets. Naomi game, trying a fighting retreat, but it's a lot more retreat than fight. She can't get her front stabilized, and, as a result, the older woman's offensive continues unabated for over two minutes. Finally, Scott begins to be able to hold some ground late in the round. She bangs back enough that Ratajkowski thinks better of continuing the all-out offensive. She stays aggressive, though, continuing to take the fight to the Consortium's new start, rolling up points right to the bell. And, when it rings, Emily's taken her second consecutive round wide and pulled into a 67-66 lead.

ROUND EIGHT:

Ladies back on even terms early, back to boxing. Emily's seen enough to realize Naomi's legs are back and further effort at clean up would be both futile and dangerous. But, that doesn't mean Ratajkowski doesn't get work done, because she does. But, now, so does Naomi, who's boxing well, again proving she can hold her own on these terms with a more experienced figh...BOOM! Right hand, SCOTT and Ratajkowski is HURT! Emily wobbling backward and BEING DROPPED BY A BLISTERING OVERHAND RIGHT! Crowd going nuts as Scott bounces to a neutral corner with her hands raised above her head. Emily wide eyed and sputtering, staring up at the referee as he counts down. Rolls to her belly at six, pushes to hands and knees and then SLUMPS BACK TO THE CANVAS and it's OVER! And, your winner by KO8 in lightning strike fashion is Naomi Scott!

AFTER:

Scott scuffed and still breathing hard but jubilant in the post-fight. "This is what I've been telling people," the brunette beauty says with a smile. "I'm as good as anyone in this division...already. And, it's only a matter of time before I gain enough experience to be BETTER than anyone in this division. Only. A. Matter. Of. Time."
