Margot Robbie vs. Demi Lovato

BEFORE:

Pair of top bantams, both of whom can use a win. Margot's been up and down the last couple of years and has slipped out of the Top Twenty as a result. Meanwhile, Lovato's coming off a tough loss to rival Demi Rose and could use the victory to push back into the title picture. And, it's clear in the pre-fight that both fighters have winning on their minds.

"She's definitely a girl you measure yourself against," says the blonde with a nod. "And, tonight, Margot Robbie is going to measure up."

"She's dangerous," admits Demi. "But, thing is, she's not quite at the level of the really top girls. Like, you know, ME."

ROUND ONE:

Styles make fights, and, in that's never more true than in this case. Robbie's got the reach and likes to work at range, show her slick boxing skills. The shorter, powerfully built Demi likes to pressure, get into the phone booth and bang, and, why not? Few in the division are better at it. And, it's Demi's style that plays in the first. She's able to work past Margot's jab and crowd the blonde, working body with hooks, then going upstairs to land hard shot to the head. Margot's never hurt, but she's clearly taking the worst of it and doesn't have ready answers. She ties up, but Demi shoves off and keeps working. And, she can't find ways to create space with the feet or the fists. Result is a round Lovato's corner has to be loving, as Demi controls things throughout and takes it wide to grab a 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Margot finding some answers. She's moving laterally more, also using a drop step to give some ground. And, she's getting her jab on. All of that slows Demi as Lovato tries to close. And, the result is that Margot's now getting what SHE wants. And, that makes a TON of difference. Now, it's Demi who's taking the worst of it, as the blonde puts combinations together from the outside and frustrates the brunette's attempts to close and bang. Late in the round, Demi starts finding ways past Margot's defenses again and closing to bang, but, by then, it's waaaayyy to late to change things as far as the cards go. When the bell rings ending the second, it's the Australian stunner who's taken the points, and handily, too, to even the fight at 19-19 after two.

ROUND THREE:

Margot on the move, jabbing, giving a little ground, working to get the space she needs to box. Demi pressuring, angling, getting past the jab at times and getting inside. When the brunette can do that, she takes full advantage, scoring heavily with hard shot to the head and body. But, the Aussie beauty keeps those exchanges short, always either tying up or managing to slip away to open ocean where she can, again, enforce range with her feet and her left jab. It's cat and mouse for the entirety of the third round, and, while nobody gets as much of her own terms as she wants, both fighters get enough to score points and keep things close throughout. When the bell rings, both blonde and brunette can be excused for believing they won the round, but it's Robbie who's taken the points close to lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

More two-way stuff. Margot scoring on the outside and Demi scoring on the inside, and, for the second consecutive round, there's not a lot in it...BOOM! Right uppercut LOVATO and Margot is HURT! Robbie stumbles backward into the ropes and ON COMES DEMI! Brunette ALL IN, banging away upstairs, then, with the blonde in a high guard, going body in a BIG way trying to bring that guard down. Margot not having it, though. She's leaving the body on sale to try to ride this thing out. But, the storm keeps increasing in intensity as Lovato sits down on everything, POUNDING the blonde with hard lefts and rights both upstairs and down. Ref on a hair trigger throughout, but Robbie doing just enough to keep him at bay until the bell. When it rings, it's Demi wide and we're even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Demi pressing forward, backing up her rival, punishing her with heavy shot to head and body. Margot bundled to the ropes, covering up, rolling with as Lovato bangs away and the referee again looks in closely. BOOM! Right hand, MARGOT! Robbie lands a HUGE counter off the ropes and Lovato is HURT! Demi wobbles, nearly goes down, and the blonde EXPLODES off the ropes, battering the brunette into full retreat. Demi shaken again and again by hard shot from Margot until a short right hook DROPS HER TO HER RIGHT SIDE! Robbie quickly to a neutral corner. Ref counting over a the brunette who pushes up to elbow and hip, but can get no further before the count passes her by. It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 in comeback fashion is Margot Robbie!

AFTER:

Margot jubilant. She knows what a huge win this was. "Everyone who's been talking about me not being at the elite level," she says with a smile. "Well, look who I just had, literally, at my feet! There's no one in this division I can't beat. No one. And I just proved it!"
