Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Hayley: 38 YO, 5’6 ½ (1.69 m), (FCBA) 12-10-0, 12 KO since 2015, Pretty Little Punchers

Emily: 33 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 52-22-0, 41 KO since 2014, Lookout Boxing

Before: Much social interest in this matchup. Some there are calling this an “Agents of SHIELD” showdown since Hayley and Emily have played agents of that Marvel Universe organization on TV and on film. However the two ladies in question have a different viewpoint.

“This is a showdown between Emily Vancamp and myself,” says Hayley Atwell, “the rest of that is just juvenile hype. Not that I don’t think Peggy Carter was the superior agent.” (She says this with a smile.)

“Naturally, I happen to think Sharon Carter would have been the superior agent, that’s just Ms. Atwell trying to distract everyone,” Emily says with that narrow-eyed look all-too-familiar to fans of EVC’s old REVENGE TV show when her character was focusing on a future object of a takedown. “I am just here to rebuild my fortunes at Lightweight after a very disappointing 1-5 2019 season. I have to admit Hayley looks a bit on the short side for Lightweight, but they tell me she just sees that as a challenge. I assure you, Hayley, I will be a challenge to you.”

“Don’t let those 2 ½ inches bother you,” Hayley replies smoothly, “I am well acquainted with how to cut a taller opponent down to size. Oh, and I am sure I will be a challenge—and won’t you will not be able to overcome.”

“That so?” say Emily with that cold, deadly look in her eyes. “We’ll just have to see how it all works out. I don’t think you will like it though.”

“I know you won’t,” says Hayley with a chilly look of her won.

The two ladies do keep their tempers during the presser, but the Cold War was easily detected by viewers and the on-line excitement grows. Fight night finds Emily coming to ring in a blue one piece swimsuit with EVC in gold lettering on her hip. White boots and gloves with blue laces. Hair in a ponytail. Hayley in a magenta red one piece with black gloves and boots, red laces. Hair is pulled back in a battle bun. The two then meet with the referee to go over ring instructions. This proceeds smoothly. They tap gloves and head for their corners. Moments later the bell rings.

R1: Hayley scoots out from her corner at the bell and quickly starts pumping hooks into Emily’s body. Emily struggling to counter with the barrage of incoming leather is soon being doubled up by the impacts to her abs. Hayley then working those overhanging breasts with left-right swabbing and adding some rising shots up into Em’s face. Emily finally backpedals out of there and uses her jab to try to slow down Hayley’s pursuit. Hayley now banging blows off Emily’s head, keeping her bottled up defensively and then going back to the body with a fresh wave of hooks down to the bell. Hayley Atwell wins the opening round wide.

R2: Emily Vancamp more aggressive this round. She moves quickly to challenge Hayley Atwell as Hayley comes at her again. Brisk change between the two as they circle around each other at mid ring. Punches split fairly evenly between head and body. Both seem willing to take the punishment as long s they can stay within easy striking strange. Back and forth the leather goes, but then Emily shows some nifty footwork and draws Hayley off balance. Emily then brings solid right/left to Hayley chin and then flips Hayley’s head back with a very nice right uppie to the chin. Hayley sent lurching back with her gloves now up around her head, but gradually comes out of the defensive posture to join in some joint rib roasting punches as the round ends. It’s close, but Emily Vancamp able to pull out the win.

R3: Emily and Hayley back out to mid-round and Emily immediately goes to Hayley’s jaw as the Brit boxers tries to get in under EVC’s reach. Hayley stung by these shots, tries to back out, but then gets doubled up by quick, but deep hooks into her belly. Now Emily batters Hayley with bouncing shots off the head to rattle Hayley’s brain and then underneath to swab those big Atwell knockers. Hayley struggling to put some distance between herself and the surging Emily. Hayley finally manages to stabilize behind her jab and bring Emily’s attack under control. Emily still aggressive, circling Hayley and pepper her with rapid fire punches. Round ends with Emily smiling shark-like as a stiff and sore Hayley Atwell heads for her corner.

R4: Hayley strikes back as soon as she get out of her corner at the bell and get at Emily as the new round starts. Hayley comes pounding in against Emily’s torso with hammering leather that works the Canadian from breasts to belly and back again. Heavy shelling seems to throw Emily into confusion as she falls back and keeps her gloves up defensively around her head. Hayley happily working Emily’s body and soon she has Emily all hunched up, just trying to survive the storm. Hayley never wavers in her commitment to punishing Emily to the body, though she does scoot to the right and left at times to put EVC’s flanks under attack. Bell rings and now its Emily looking stiff and sore as she heads for her corner and Hayley with a smile satisfaction at the sight.

R5: Lookout corner crew works hard to get Emily for the next round. Bell sounds and EVC gamely comes forward, but Hayley is more than ready to pick up where she left off. Hayley starts with fresh hooks to Emily’s already battered midsection. Emily reacts instinctively, dropping her gloves to protect her body. Too late she discovers the body shots were a feint: Hayley strikes to Em’s chin with lightning strike right/left combo. Emily shudders as though a electric shock has ripped through her body and stumbles back as Hayley is smiting her with lefts and rights to the jaw and cheekbones. Emily gets her gloves backup high, but then Hayley launches a drumbeat attack to the belly and she drives the beleaguered Emily into the ropes. Now Emily has to take a seat on the ropes, go face in gloves and just let Hayley lash away at her body.. Emily legs shuddering under this bombardment, but they do not buckle and so Em is still standing at the bell. Emily slowly peeling herself off the ropes and looking around with foggy eyes before locating her corner. Even bigger smile of satisfaction on Hayley Atwell as she observes Emily’s condition. No surprise the round is ruled a shutout for Hayley;.

R6: Lookout corner crew now has even more damage to work on during the break. They buckle down hard and get Emily out at the bell. Emily moving slowly and looking defensive, but she’s more wary of Hayley as this round gets started. Hayley finds Emily not biting on her feints, so decides to try to try the direct approach and comes forward, hammering Em to the body. However Emily now fights back with short range jabs that smack hard into Hayley’s breast and then her belly. Hayley still pressing forward, Emily grimly resisting and the two seem stalemated. However Hayley able to set her feet and this allows her to get just a bit more power into her punching, Emily is pushed back slowly, stubbornly, but definitely. Round ends with the bell. Both fighters breathing hard, dripping sweat as they turn away and head for their corners. Judges give it to Hayley Atwell by a narrow margin.

R7: Emily now showing renewed vigor as she comes out briskly from her corner and starts to challenge Hayley. Sharp exchange of jaw and chin shots early seems to slow up both fighters. Then Emily goes to the body with an initial burst of straight rights and lefts into Hayley’s impressive rack. Then, as Hayley is jabbing Em in the knockers, Emily goes for the belly with ripping deep hooks. Hayley is put back on her heels, doubled up and then Emily brings clipping right into Hayley’s chin. Hayley now falling back, but she still has her jab which she uses to slow Emily down. Emily and Hayley trading rib punches this rest of the way to the bell. Emily pulls out a close win from the judges and she’s got Hayley nursing a now tenderized torso.

R8: Now it’s the PLP corner’s turn to try to get a battered fighter ready for the next round. They do the best they can, but Hayley still seems to be moving gingerly as the new round begins. Hayley out to mid ring, Emily approaching with determination and she goes right for Hayley’s body with a fresh wave of leather. Hayley trying to stand and fight, but whack after whack into her ravaged midsection seems to draining the energy from her. Hayley then starts to retreat, but Emily drive a well-placed deep hook into Hayley body and Hayley’s knees start to buckle. Then Emily blasts one-two-three-four uppercut into Hayley’s suddenly-wide-open chin. Hayley’s head goes back as her knees give way. DOWN GOES HAYLEY! Hayley sinks to her knees and then falls over onto her side, curled up and slumbering. Emily takes a quick look. Big smiles and then scoots off to the neutral corner. Referee comes in and starts to count. Hayley stirs, pushes herself up on her right arm and then tries to rise further. No go! Hayley slumps onto her back, knees bent upward as she just puts her right arm over her eyes to blot out the overhead lights. She can hear the ref’s call:

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YER OUT!”

THE WINNER: EMILY VANCAMP DEFEATS HAYLEY ATWELL KO8!

After: Emily all perky and cheerful as she later talks to the press about her win tonight: “Hayley certainly can punch hard, but I was tough enough to take it and comeback. The difference is when I came back, I broke her to the body and then just finished her off to the chin. She’s tough, but not as tough as me. So things are definitely looking up for me this year. I can’t wait for my next fight!”

Says Hayley Atwell: “I do not care what Ms. Vancamp thinks. She may have defeated me—this time—but she is NOT ‘tougher’ than myself. She landed the punches that won the fight and I could not. It was all in the execution. That’s it. I hope I some day to get the chance to prove that by thrashing Ms. Vancamp to teach her the errors of her thinking.”

This was a very entertaining fight, but Hayley Atwell may have been right when she said it was successful execution that won it for Emily Vancamp. Still, it is also true that Emily survived after being shutout in R5 and then coming back in win the fight in the 8th. So toughness may have had something to do with EVC’s success. If they ever get a shot at each other we may be able to find out. In the meantime, FCBA lightweight fans can savor memories of this hard-punching battle.
