Before:

Flyweight action tonight sees the newly crowned flyweight champion Olivia Holt taking on Katherine McNamara in her first title defense. The two young actresses have quickly risen to the top of the flyweight division and threaten to be mainstays of the division for a decade to come. They meet for the first time in the ring tonight, and the press room is buzzing as the two girls sit down for the press conference.

“I’m sick and tired of hearing how Fates is only for lightweight,” Katherine starts, “I’m changing that reputation and bringing Fates its first non-lightweight title by beating Olivia tonight. Holt is a great fighter, she truly is. But it’s time for the division to recognize me for the fighter I am. And girls who win find a way to win against the best.”

Holt picks up her mic before looking directly at McNamara, “Kat, you are a great fighter. However, you aren’t on my level. I just got this title. I’m not giving it up anytime soon. That’s the sad truth you’ll have to deal with.”

The two girls stare each other before they are escorted out, though they will be sharing a space again soon in a ring.

The challenger Katherine McNamara is introduced first and is accompanied by coach Ana Beatriz Barros, the redhead quickly removing her robe to reveal a red sports bra with matching trunks and gloves, all of which nearly match her hair in color. Kat paces around the canvas while waiting for the champion to emerge, which Olivia Holt quickly does. The blonde takes the title off of her waist and hoists it high, keeping it up until she gets in the ring, at which point she hands it off to the official. Holt has gone for a blue sports bra and matching gloves with black trunks for the fight, and she coolly looks at McNamara, who merely returns the gaze. The referee invites them to touch gloves, which they oblige, and then calls for the match to start.

Round 1:

The bell rings and both girls cautiously get out of their corners and they start circling each other, their jabs merely getting a sense of the other fighter. McNamara is the taller girl and has a slight reach advantage, something which she looks to use as she steadily gets more aggressive with her jabs. Holt keeps up her guard and weathers the storm before she steps forward and snaps Kat’s head backwards with a one-two left-right combo that stops the redhead in her tracks. The blonde throws an uppercut that McNamara barely gets her gloves in front of, and the redhead drops back, covering her head as Holt picks around her guard, hitting the challenger’s ribs whenever she sees a chance. Kat plants her feet and drives a solid left into Olivia’s side, slowing the blonde’s momentum as the round comes to an end. The champ gets out ahead early as these two young flyweights go head-to-head.

Round 2:

Kat and Olivia pick up the pace in the second, with the tempo of the circling turning up to a brisk pace and the jabs start flying. Olivia gets Katherine in her mouth early, but the redhead responds with a big right just below the blonde’s eye, knocking the blonde backwards. McNamara surges ahead, striking out with two lefts into Holt’s guard before going to her body once she realizes she’s not going to get any easy potshots on the champ. Holt struggles to fend off the challenger’s advance, but she didn’t become the champion without learning how to get herself out of a sticky situation, and she quickly drops out of Kat’s range and plants her feet. McNamara steps forward with a right that gets Holt in both gloves before the champ finds a cheeky left response to get the young redhead to back off, which she does. McNamara throws a pair of jabs at range, but neither connects. The round wraps up, and the challenger in McNamara evens the score up after two.

Round 3:

Both girls seem to have settled in to start the third and they work in close to each other, their blows short and crisp as they battle. Kat has slightly more power thanks to her larger stature and she keeps on trying to string multiple punishing blows together, but Olivia interrupts her with well-placed blows of her own, and ones that pack a punch too. Holt finds McNamara’s liver with a right before following up with a left and the redhead retreats as she tries to open up some room between herself and the champion, but the blonde doggedly pursues her. Olivia works a right into Katherine’s ribs, only to take two quick blows back in kind, and the two girls return to a stalemate. Holt works to her left and McNamara reciprocates, the two trading jabs that bounce off the other’s guard. The round ends, and this is proving to be a close fight.

Round 4:

The fourth round gets underway, picking up where the third left off as both girls are keeping it tight until Kat feints a hard left that Olivia bites on only to take the full force of a right from McNamara to her chin. The champion staggers backwards as the challenger surges forward, the redhead aggressively hammering away at Holt’s guard, trying to break it down and get follow-up blows to her head. Olivia hammers a quick right into Katherine’s mouth, busting the redhead’s upper lip open, and Holt quickly hits McNamara in her ribs with a left. Kat backs off and plants her feet as Olivia steps forwards – and the blonde girl takes a shot right to her chin! McNamara showing off some power in her strike and Holt has no choice but to cover up now as McNamara goes for her foe’s body this time rather than her head. Kat pounds Olivia’s ribs red in the waning seconds of the round and the bell mercifully saves the champ, with Katherine putting on a strong showing here tonight.

Round 5:

Kat bounces out of her corner and goes after Olivia again, and the blonde seems more than content to let her redheaded foe tire herself out here in the middle stretch of the fight as the champ just keeps her gloves up as Kat pounds on them. Kat bobs to her left and strikes out with a right, working just under her foe’s guard to clip her chin. Olivia drops backwards before striking out as Kat advances, halting the challenger in her tracks with a right to her nose. Kat goes for a left counterpunch, but her blow skips off of the champ’s ribs and the fight returns to a stalemate with both girls inches from each other. Olivia shifts away from her bodyshots to drive a short right into Kat’s nose again and forces the redhead to back off. The bell dings to end the fifth and brings the fight to its halfway point, with Olivia taking the lead on points.

Round 6:

Kat and Olivia make their ways out of their respective corners for the back half of the fight, and while they both still have plenty of energy left for the remaining rounds. Holt warily watches McNamara’s advances, and each time the redhead lines up a shot, the blonde has a response waiting. Kat charges the smaller girl in frustration only to earn a left to her cheek and opens her up with a trickle of blood. Kat retreats, covering her head as Olivia strikes out with precise blows to Kat’s body. McNamara shifts to her right and sticks Holt with a left, following up with a right cross and Holt is hurting! The champ loses her balance briefly before catching herself, but by then, Kat’s already slugged two shots into her body and the blonde has to clinch. The bell rings before Kat can make any further progress.

Round 7:

Holt winces slightly as she steps out of her corner, and McNamara picks up on it, feinting left and Olivia falls for the fake after the left she took last round. Kat slips her right behind Olivia’s guard, crashing her glove into Olivia’s jaw and snapping her head to her right and Holt stumbles backwards. Olivia’s arms flare out and Katherine follows up with a straight right that gets Olivia right in chin and down goes Holt! The challenger McNamara gets the first knockdown of the fight as she knocks Holt onto her back. Olivia moves her arms around as she stares up at the ref’s count over her, the champion rolling herself onto her belly before gingerly getting up at the count of seven with a grim look of determination on her face. The referee waves Kat back in and the redhead looks to bait the blonde with another feint, but Olivia doesn’t fall for the same trick twice and gets Kat with a right hook that makes the redhead back off and start circling as the round finishes. It’s McNamara’s round thanks to the knockdown, and the Fates girl is giving the champion a run for her money.

Round 8:

Between rounds, the Odds and Ends corner tells Holt that she has to either pick it up or she’ll lose her title, and that motivates the champ to pick up the pace, starting out by circling McNamara. The redheaded challenger plays along with the circling, jabbing at the champ’s head from range, smashing her third right through the blonde’s guard. Olivia drops backward slightly and Katherine surges after her opponent, driving a left at Olivia’s head. Holt blocks the blow and catches Kat with a right to the challenger’s solar plexus, and the air rushes out of Kat’s lungs past her lips! Olivia drills the redhead with a right that smacks the challenger just below her left eye and snaps her head backwards, and it’s all Kat can do to cover her face from a barrage of blows. Holt works McNamara back into the ropes and sticks the challenger’s body with repeated blows, but by the bell, both women are still standing, and there will be a ninth round in the fight.

Round 9:

Holt bounces out of her corner, the champion seemingly getting her second wind as McNamara timidly leaves her corner. Olivia steps forward, parrying a right from Kat before connecting with a right of her own to Kat’s mouth and the redhead is stunned! Holt presses on, plunging leather into McNamara’s solar plexus again and Kat’s hurt! McNamara bends over in pain and Holt drives a left hook right into the challenger’s mouth, but Kat is still standing despite being wobbly! Kat keeps her gloves up as Olivia takes her to task, the redhead’s guard protecting her head despite the sustained pressure from her opponent. Holt notices it too and goes back to McNamara’s body. Katherine starts to jab at Olivia, warding the blonde off but not connecting with anything until she sticks a blow into Olivia’s ribs, knocking Holt slightly backwards. McNamara winds up for another strike but gets bent over as Holt connects with a third blow to her solar plexus and McNamara struggles to breathe. Olivia snaps Kat back upright with a right before drilling her twice in her chin with a left-right combo that drops Kat! It’s a knockdown for the champion as McNamara is in a heap, barely moving her arms to wrap her tender midriff while on the ground as the ref counts to ten. Your winner by KO9 AND STILL FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION, OLIVIA HOLT!

After:

Holt raises her fists in triumph before she gets her belt and raises it, having successfully defended her title. Meanwhile, the Fates staff floods the ring to tend to McNamara, who is still barely moving her arms as she cradles her body, and they gradually get her propped up onto a stool. Olivia goes over and hugs Katherine, whose eyes are watering, before the champ leaves the ring.

“Hey, Kat put up a great fight,” Olivia compliments her opponent. “She really had me going early, and while she didn’t raise the belt today, I think that she’ll be doing that sooner rather than later. I’m going to enjoy my first title defense. But tomorrow, I’ll be hitting the gym and figuring out who’s next.”

Minutes later, an exhausted Katherine steps out in front of a dozen mics and takes a deep breath before starting, “Olivia beat me fair and square tonight, and my props to her. But I’ll be back.”
