Before: Bosworth back after a long layoff—fit little blonde anxious to shake the rust and get back in the hunt. “From what I know about Amy,” Kate says at the podium, “she’s good boxer—not a lot of power, but she’s tall and she’s spared with a lot of big names at 120. I really just want to get some work in: I hope she’s durable enough to give me some rounds. Doesn’t really look it, does she?” Acker non-plussed at the friendly trash-talking—Amy hoping to capitalize on a notoriously inconsistent A-lister, maybe launch to prominence over Kate. “It’s a big opportunity for me in my debut,” Acker admits. “Bosworth is very quick, but she’s not overpowering. I think I can use my jab, control her speed, I’ll be very competitive with Kate. VERY competitive.” Kate in navy sports bra, tight pale blue cotton jogging shorts, white shoes, tidy battle-bun, Amy in black sports bra, tight red cotton jogging shorts, white shoes, ponytail with forelock trailing down her right cheek, Small gloves, both vixen.

During R1: Kate looking Amy over, gauging brunette reflexes, seeing what might be done tonight. Bosworth pretty with gloves together at her chest as she walks to her right outside, regrouping, Bos with a chippy little jab—tap-tap-tapping at Amy’s defences, darting to pat against pale brunette tummy, knocking quick to cheek. Amy much tighter, dukes up, scowling with concentration—she’s pushier with her punches, not as professional looking, but she’s awkwardly effective. Amy with swishy one-two scrubbing action able to rebuff Kate, forcing her back outside; Acker’s jab not heavy, but it’s long, often disrupting Bosworth’s approach. Tactical first to Bosworth as she gets her legs into the bout.

R2: Kate troubled by Amy’s length, quirky punching, awkward looks. Acker with a knack of meeting Bosworth coming in with straight, tapping right hands in the forehead—or a pushy jab—just enough to intercept and disrupt. Acker baring her teeth as she scrubs rigid one-twos—ratcheting out punches from her shoulders and buffeting Kate’s face—Bosworth routinely forced outside to regroup. Kate unhurt by any of this, but she’s not getting off much—just rushing in, getting touched up, and rejected in a stop-and-go second.

R3: Kate’s corner wants more jabs, and more body work: Bosworth responds, Not a lot on the Bosworth stick, but it’s quick n’ chippy—threading between Amy’s mjtts or skidding against her ribs as Katie dabs away. Short, hacking right hand as Kate steps close, then na swiping hook as she pivots to the right, easing weight to her right (back) foot to turn Acker’s left flank. It’s a good tactic—Bosworth able to hack right/hook left/step right repeatedly—Acker covering up high, turning to square and getting touched up. Amy covering is vulnerable to the ribs: Katie getting her best rips of the night via a tight, biting hook in behind Acker’s elbow. Sunny smile when Bosworth gets thos hooks—just sure joy-in-the-moment as Amy suffers.

R4: Acker showing poise—she’s obviously slower, less athletic, but she’s ticking with her game. Rangy, pinging jabs, scrubbing one-twos, hopping evasive footwork along the perimeter—when Amy can get Bosworth to chase, brunette can problematize things for blonde. Bosworth coming straight up the middle, getting picked up: she’s not jabbing, not giving angles and Acker’s able to take advantage for points. Acker warned throughout the round: she’s sliding Kate into lazy front-chokes—just tucking blonde skull in under brunette left arm to clinch when Bosworth leans in low, head-first.

R5: Kate’s best round thus far—much sharper, much busier, more consistent, Chippy jabs locate Acker, make her cover up: Bosworth has her way when Amy crouches, give yup her height. That hack right hand/left hook/step to the right routine is there—Kate working it to perfection midring as Amy turns sluggishly behind her mitts. Bosworth prettily turning into her hook off the right foot, closing up her stance, tucking chin tight behind that left shoulder: very hard to counter her cleanly. Batting rights and lefts to the ribs—Katie to Amy—Acker grimacing as she pulls Kate behind her head while small mitts sound out PIK! PAK! PEK! against pale brunette ribs, Fine, digging hooks to the waist complete the menu—Kate getting ‘em off her front foot: these are her most leveraged punches, drawing moist little gasps from a cramped-up Amy.

R6: Oh that pesky Amy! Acker refusing to go away—just keeping her jab in Kate’s face, dropping rangy right hands, stepping back to fade the Bosworth blitz and pick blonde up with swishy combinations. Kate frustrated—she KNOWS she’s the better fighter, but Amy an awkward read, not always obvious what the best to go at her is. When in doubt—Kate hooks Amy’s body, or bats away with right/left straight-am sequences to ribs: Acker pulling Kate behind the head, drawing her into clinches t smother this stuff before it can get out of hand.

R7: When Kate’s first with jab—even though it’s not hurting Amy—brunette covers up and makes life easier for her classy opponent. Bosworth able to work right/left combinations, able to work angles, able to dip in and out. Katie living up to her nickname (Nibbles)—getting odd in pretty sequences, but never really hurting Amy—just systematically touching her up, hip to head. Best punch again that biting left hook off the front foot; Amy stooping, takes it against her taut waist, grunting behind her gloves.

R8: First back to back rounds finally won by Kate—she starts to impose her will on stubborn Amy. Acker’s punch output dropping—she’s spending most of her time folding forward behind her mitts, inching forward into Bosworth’s punching. Kate batting away to flanks/ribs straight arms and lefts—shivering contact off Amy’s boy—Katie just stepping back in good order and cleaning up. Bos able to pivot counterclockwise—hacking short rights and clawing hooks as she turns Amy. Acker pawing her jab in spots, reaching behind Kate’s head, staying very safety-first as blonde puts thands on brunette in the 8th.

R9: Oh that pesky Amy! Acker starting to mouth breathe from Kate’s good work to the body all night long—but brunette rallying, punching rangy rights and lefts, and pulling Kate behind her head to disrupt blonde rhythm this round. Amy warned for holding and hitting—she’s riding her left behind Kate’s head, tugging her forward and turning her while lashing her lanky right hands body and chin. Kate still investing heavily in brunette midsection—some good stout licks from either hand, tearing up flat Acker tummy meat—Bos just trying to crouch inside the clinch and dig.

R10: Kate finally separates herself: tip-tap combinations and steady body attack finally adding up in Acker’s long, thin legs. Amy’s mouth open, eyes discouraged—no one punch has rocked her all night, but Bosworth’s been a diligent little digger throughout. Midway through, Bosworth bursts to the ribs with a batting flurry of lefts and rights, creeps up-torso to ring hooks and right hands off Acker’s temples: Amy steps away from the combo staring, legs giving way as she steps in a fence post hole. Kate pounces in—a nice short, hopping-in right hand on the mouth punches back Amy’s head, sends her slowly to her right knee for an 8 count. Acker brave, unraveling, but willing to continue—Kate attacks with gusto at the ropes. Bosworth letting her hands go—choppy right hands and withering hooks upside the head—poor Amy can’t manage the volume as she buffeted and clawed up against the strands. Acker leaning back, sliding to the left—Katie stepping-with and lathering—poor Amy finally wilting forward, drops to all fours, panting and shook. Acker up stiffly off the canvas, nods a hard “yes” to the ref as he wipes her gloves: Kate forced to scoot back in and work hard to the bell as Amy won’t quit. All Kate to the finish line—Amy earmuffing up, sitting I the ropes and sponging: Bosworth batting out a tune on her foe’s flanks and back as ref jumps in to enforce the bell. Comes back UD10 comfy—Kate Bosworth.

After: Amy extends Kate, wins 4 rounds, but Bosworth clearly too much at the last. Concerns about nibbles’ power linger. She’s got very fast, clever hands, but it took sheets of Bosworth punching—applied in volume throughout the night—to finally unhinge Acker’s ho-hum legs. “It’s something will come,” Kate says of her pop at bantam. “I do hurt girls, but I do it with accumulation and timing—I’m neer just going to muscle a girl onto her back. There’s more than one way to skin a cat—as long as I have the wheels and the reflexes, I’m going to give any bantamweight hell in the ring. Plus I’m tuff! That’s a combination, don’t you think?”
