(Apologies to managers here, but a tournament is the best way to revitalize a division. These are fights the girls wouldn’t be getting otherwise, so really, what’s the harm? A fighter with a loss is batter than a fighter sitting on the shelf, collecting dust).

Kiana Tom Enterprises, in association with Catherine Zeta Jones, Liz Hurley Swimwear, Janet Jones Gretzky and Jessica Alba put together this so-called “Welterweight Jamboree”. fueling speculation that the rumored “evil axis”. between some of the FCBA’s most conniving personalities was, in fact, a stone lock partnership.

“Rubbish,” scoffed  CZJ when broached on the subject. “There is no inked pact, no secret handshake, no star-chamber machinations a-foot here. From time to time I have found it useful to consult these ladies on a variety of topics and when Kiana came up with the idea of batching together some of the 130-pound properties into an economical outdoor tournament, I think we all recognized the business opportunity to be had.”

Exploitation potential?

“We’re not here top take advantage of these ladies,” demurred Jessica Alba in her suite at the Honolulu Hilton--official fight-site for the Jamboree. “Far from it. We’ e put together an event which will sign the brightest light on this division that it’s ever had, and give a lot of deserving name a chance to showcase.”

When Alba was later quoted as having referred to contestants as “Fat pigs” at a local Honolulu nightclub, Jessica contended that her comments “were taken out of  context.”

The 16 combatants were as follows: Rebecca Romijn, Tyra Banks, Monika Schnarre, Torrie Wilson, Cindy Crawford, Angie Everhart, Brooke Shields, Um Thurman, Rachel Hunter, Kim Cattrall, Mariah Carey, Laura Prepon, Estella Warren, Natasha Henstridge, Gena Lee Nolin and Taylor Cole.

So cue tropical sun, humidity, palm-front shade, gentle sea breezes, lovely beach-volleyball size crowd and a raucous, keg-party atomosphere
