Samara Weaving vs. Kira Kosarin (Results: Lookout! Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Weaving's FCBA career got off to a great start, and the exact moment it began to head in the wrong direction can be pinpointed. It happened on this very card last August when Samara, coming off three straight impressive wins, spent the second round of fight number four bullying Lili Reinhart. Between rounds, Neve Campbell got in Reinhart's ear, screaming, "We are NOT backing up in this f**king fight!" From that moment to this, Weaving is 1-6 in traditional fights. And, that would seem like a very very bad run to be on when you're stepping up to Kira Kosarin, who, at age 23, is already a former Unified Bantamweight Champion and has won 18 of 26. But. But. But... Yeah. Weaving has had one NON-traditional fight since Reinhart stopped backing up. It was at Queendom XII last November. Samara won it via KO6. The opponent was Kira Kosarin. "Yeah. I remember that fight VERY well, the brunette beauty says. VERY. I have a win to get back. And, that happens tonight."

"I know Kira's trying to build her own confidence talking about getting revenge for the last time. But, I proved I was better THEN, and now? We're on the BEACH, which is Odds and Ends territory. So, if Kira couldn't beat me in a ring, what makes her think she can beat me on the sand?"

ROUND ONE:

No surprise how this one starts. Both fighters are notoriously aggressive. Both are very sturdy. And, both pack a TON of power. And, of course, there's already a template from that fight last November. Thus, nobody is surprised when blonde and brunette simply meet in the middle of the ring and begin slugging it out. Tons of power shots are exchanged within the opening minute, and nobody takes a step back. Minute two? More of the same. And, again, nobody's backing up. And, nobody's getting sloppy, either. Both fighters are moving feet, head, hands, fighting soundly and intelligently both offensively and defensively. But, that doesn't change the fact that TONS of heavy leather is landing right up to the bell. When it rings, it's close, but it's the blonde who's taken the points to lead 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

More of the same, except, about thirty seconds in, Kira begins to impose will. She's backing up the blonde all of a sudden, and that changes everything. Samara's now fighting off the back foot, as Kosarin walks her down, dropping hard shot on her at every opportunity. Weaving trying to stabilize her front, but can't get it done...at least for long. Every time she gets her feet set in the sand and gets off, Kara responds with another hard flurry that forces her to back and cover. Weaving is never hurt, and she's never trapped on the ropes, but she's fighting in retreat while Kira's on the offensive, and the result is that the brunette builds up quite a lead. Then, with about ten seconds to go, Samara sets the feet and BOOM! She ROCKS the brunette with a right hand! Kira's all wobbly butt and Samara lets the hands go, but the bell rings, denying the blonde a chance to finish or get close to making up the stagger. Kosarin takes the round wide and evens things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

The big question from the end of the last round is answered quickly. Kosarin's still buzzed when she comes out of her corner and Weaving immediately takes advantage. Now, it's the blonde doing the backing up, throwing flurry after flurry of hard shot that back up the unsteady brunette. Samara is cleaning up very effectively, but, of course, what she wants to do here is FINISH. And, she's making every possible effort in that direction, sitting down on punches and working almost exclusively upstairs. By the final minute, though, it becomes obvious that Weaving's efforts are not going to bear fruit. Kira's firming up her front, firing back with gusto. There are several sharp exchanges in the final thirty seconds, and Kosarin gets the better of them. But, it's too late to matter. At the bell, Weaving's won it wide to go back into the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Rerun of the first round. Fighters right in one another's grill, banging away. Everybody trying to impose will and nobody willing to be imposed on. Result is a TON of action with the ladies at short range banging away. One slight difference from the first is that there's more body work in this frame. Most of the effort remains upstairs, mind, but there's some tenderizing of midsections and ribs going on. And, again, nothing's sloppy. Ladies setting up their punches, playing good defense, showing plenty of respect for one another's power. Very little in it going into the closing seconds, and both ladies press down on the pedal a bit more to try to steal the points, leading to some sharp exchanges, including one that goes on even after the bell. Ref forced to leap in and send the ladies back to their corners. As for the cards, it's close, but it's Weaving, who extends her lead to 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

More of the same. Ladies are both comfortable banging away in the center of the ring, and that's what they spend the fifth doing. Again, there's plenty of movement, with sand flying as both blonde and brunette play the angles, look to create openings, then fill those with heavy leather. And, despite all the big shot that's already been exchanged, neither of the sturdy bantams look to be slowing down. Both are looking a little scuffed, mind, but they're still working hard and effectively...and, for the third time in five rounds, neither is able to really create any space as far as points are concerned. Yet again the last half minute sees blonde and brunette up the effort even more to try to grab the round, but, when the bell rings, it's all come out in the wash and there's nothing in it. It's a draw and Weaving's lead remains at two, 49-47.

ROUND SIX:

And, even MORE of the same. Both Kosarin and Weaving are determined to impose will and take command here, but, with the exception of two minutes of doing so by Kira in the second, and Weaving following up on her big shot late in that round for two minutes of dominance in the third? No dice. But, still, neither fighter is giving quarter or asking for any. In fact, it's getting more brutal as time goes on, with heads snapping back and WHACKS of leather striking bare tummies as a bit more body work gets done in this stanza. But, just like the previous two rounds, there's very little in it, despite the best efforts of the fighters to gain an advantage. This time, though, it's not COMPLETELY even. Instead, it's Kosarin by a cat's whisker, and the brunette cuts Samara's lead in half, to 58-57.

ROUND SEVEN:

Blonde and brunette right back at one another, thumping away with both hands. No quit or backup in either fighter despite the punishment both have taken over the first two rounds. Instead, every hard shot is answered by another hard shot, and every flurry is answered by another flurry. Until. BOOM! About two minutes in, KIRA ROCKS SAMARA'S WORLD! Weaving staggered by a right and and then DROPPED BY A RIGHT HOOK! Blonde spills to her right side in the sand as Kosarin heads to a neutral corner all smiles. No outward display of victory from the brunette, but she knows what she's done. Ref counting down on Weaving, who manages to push to elbow and haunch at seven, but, that's as far as she gets before the count passes her by. It's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Kira Kosarin!

AFTER:

Kira looks like she's been in quite the battle, and, that's because she HAS been, but the beautiful smile is there in the post-fight interview. "She can hit, no question about that," says Kosarin with a nod. "But, I knew I was stronger. I knew I hit harder. And, I knew I was tougher. All I had to do was fight MY fight this time, and that's exactly what I did."
