Romee Strijd vs. Behati Prinsloo

Romee Strijd: 24 years old, 5’11”, 8-4 since 2017, Lioness Club

Behati Prinsloo: 31 years old, 5’10 ½”, 11-11 since 2016, Fates Boxing

Before:

This welterweight match contains two women who are looking to claim top ten welterweight status, as the number 12 ranked Romee Strijd squares off against the number 13 ranked Behati Prinsloo. Both girls know each other from working for Victoria’s Secret and seem to be on pleasant terms, Romee noting Behati’s successes earlier in the year and Prinsloo discussing Strijd’s stellar record.

But despite their warm press conference, when the two are staring at each other in the ring, any semblance of cordiality vanishes. Romee has elected for a red sports bra and matching trunks with white gloves, while Behati has elected to wear green everything. The two girls touch gloves and the ref calls for the bell.

Round 1:

Behati Prinsloo and Romee Strijd start the match out by circling each other, trying to get a sense of the other fighter. Both women with essentially the same reach, though Romee has a minor height advantage, and they start out with jabs. Romee the first girl to make contact, but her blow bounces harmlessly off of Behati’s guard. The two girls keep on circling unitl Behati dekes Romee with a head bop and then blasts a straight right into Romee’s chin. The Dutch girls keeps her feet planted and gets in a solid counter, landing two punches into Behati’s midriff. The Namibian girl grunts and backs off as Romee chases. Strijd launches out a jab and Prinsloo ducks in – the older girl then plants her feet and then blasts Romee with a right that sends her backwards. Now it’s Prinsloo who’s pursuing her opponent, and the Fates fighter consistently goes to Romee’s body for the final minute of the round. After the bell, the judges determine that Prinsloo won the round on points, wide.

Round 2:

The two Victoria’s Secret Angels emerge from their respective corners for the second and return to circling each other. Prinsloo is the first girl to throw out some offense, getting a right into Romee’s body, and then following up with a left into her Romee’s chin. The Dutch girl drops backwards again and the Namibian model follows her, swinging with a massive right hook that misses Romee by a mile as the blonde sidesteps her opponent’s blow. Romee comes back with a picturesque uppercut that nearly drops Behati and the Namibian girl is covering her face, leaving her body exposed as Strijd pounds her into the ropes. Romee teeing off on her fellow model, driving lefts and rights into Behati’s ribs until Prinsloo clinches with the younger model. The referee separates the two women and the match resumes with the two girls trading blows more equally, but Romee unquestionably comes out ahead. At the end of the round, Romee evens everything up by taking the round on points, wide.

Round 3:

The third round begins with a departure from the previous two rounds as neither woman looks to circle. Rather, the two girls start trading jabs. Romee the first to get consistent offense in as she perfectly threads the needle to start and gets Behati flush in the nose. A trickle of blood seeps out of the older girl’s nose and Romee goes back to body, driving rights and lefts into Behati’s ribs. Prinsloo wincing as she lets a desperation punch fly and it crashes right into the blonde girl’s cheek, just below her eye. Strijd is momentarily stunned and Prinsloo crushes a left follow up into the younger girl’s nose. Prinsloo doesn’t draw any blood with her blow, but she knocks Strijd into the ropes and has a brief second to pound the blonde girl’s body, driving her punches into the younger girl’s tummy. Strijd exhaling as the air is forced out of her lungs with each punch from her older counterpart. Romee clinches as the round ends, and unsurprisingly, Behati Prinsloo wins the round on points, wide.

Round 4:

Prinsloo with the momentum at her back to start the fourth round and the model uses her long legs to cross the ring and go right after her opponent. The Namibian girl lands her punches early, tagging her Dutch counterpart with blows both to the head and body so the younger girl doesn’t know where the blows are going next. Behati keeps it tight until she shoots a right at Romee’s head but misses, and the blonde girl seizes on the opportunity, catching her opponent in the jaw and knocking Behati off balance. The younger girl now is on the offensive, landing punches into Behati’s body with regularity as she also looks for the occasional blow to the head – but Prinsloo’s not letting her get away scot free as the older girl is landing her counters, but not as solidly as Romee’s offense. By the end of the round, both girls have taken a beating, but Romee is bouncing around with more energy and the refs seem to agree as she takes the round on points, close.

Round 5:

BAM! Strijd senses Prinsloo tiring and goes straight after her opponent, feinting with her left and then following up with a right cross that catches all of Prinsloo’s jaw and sends the bigger girl careening into the ropes right off the bat! Romee pounces on a disoriented Behati and hammers away at the older model as Prinsloo just covers up as the ref watches to make sure she’s still resisting. Strijd wailing away as Prinsloo fails to really get any sort of punches into Romee’s body and is forced to clinch, hanging on desperately until the referee steps in. Romee can see Behati beginning to fade and stays laser focused on the Namibian. Right punch left punch reposition. Right punch left punch reposition. Right punch left punch – and Prinsloo catches her opponent in a rhythm, walloping her with a left and then burying a right into Romee’s solar plexus and Strijd audibly gasps from the blow as the bell rings and the blonde girl winces as she slowly makes her way to her corner. Romee may have won the round, but a punch out of nowhere may well have turned the match.

Round 6:

Despite telling the ref that she’s fine, Romee is still wincing as she gets out of her corner and it’s clear the blonde girl is hurting – and it hasn’t escaped the Fates corner. Behati comes out of her corner and immediately starts going after Romee’s body, looking to get that sweet spot that she hit the previous round. Strijd keeps her guard strong, but Prinsloo easily picks around it, working the blonde’s ribs from the start. Romee scrunching her face up in pain as she takes the punishment – but she catches Behati leaving her head exposed and gets a right off of the Namibian girl’s ear. Romee shifts forwards and throws out a left but Prinsloo dodges the blow and plugs leather into Romee’s gut and draws a shout from the blonde as she doubles her over with another blow to the solar plexus! Romee bends double and is defenseless as Behati takes just enough time to place her blow right into Romee’s jawline and send the blonde girl sprawling onto her back! Prinsloo quickly retreats to a neutral corner as the ref starts to count over the whimpering Strijd. Romee grits her teeth but struggles to turn herself onto her belly and it’s over – your winner by KO6, Behati Prinsloo!

After:

Prinsloo visibly relieved in her first regular PPV win since May. Meanwhile, for Romee, it’s her first loss since March, and the disappointment is apparent on her face. Prinsloo goes in to check on her fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel before heading out of the ring.

“I knew I still had it in me.” Behati says, “These past few months of just losing have been really tough, and I’m thankful that I’ve been able to turn it around with some help. I’m sorry that it has to come at Romee’s expense tonight because she’s a great fighter, and I wish her the best in the future.” Prinsloo then walks out, a smile cracking through the model’s face as she leaves.

Romee keeps her remarks brief, “Obviously I wish I’d won, but nothing comes easy in this league. On to the next one.”
