Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Kate: 37 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m), 1-7-0, 1 KO since 2016, Emilia’s Empresses

Janel: 31 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m), 2-10-0, 1 KO since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers Inc.

Before: “Hey, I’m always ready for a fight,” says Janel Parrish, “it’s just that not many seem to come my way. I am more than happy to be fighting Kate Mara. At least she is a mature adult. Fighting snippy young rookies is just irritating. I’m looking forward to some one who just wants to fight, not show off her ability to diss an opponent.”

“I just as eager to fight as Janel,” says Kate Mara. “I got into this game pretty late and I admit it’s been hard to get myself established. I just glad EE has had patience with my struggles. I want to win this fight and show my managers they were right to sign me.”

Janel to the ring in a white bikini with black gloves and boots (white laces). Hair pulled back in a braid with a white ribbon interwoven. Kate to the ring in black one piece swimsuit with pink eboots and gloves (black laces), Hair pulled back in a battle braid (no ribbon). They join the referee in the ring. It’s all business and the instructions proceed smoothly. Tap of the gloves and the fighters are off to their corners. Both look impatient to get back in acion. The bell rings!

R1: Janel goes to work swiftly, smiting Kate to the face with quick jabs and then going to the body with sharp, digging hooks. Kate struggling to respond to Janel’s rapidly shifting attacks, but she does manage to be in some jabs to the face that slow Janel up. Janel moving to the left and right, bobbing and weaving, trying to draw Kate off balance. After getting smacked hard to the head by the first few of these, Kate grows cautious and stops biting at feints. Janel obliged to just go straight in to the body with hooks to the midsection. Kate answering with the jab and does have Janel slowed up by the bell. However the round goes wide to Janel Parrish.

R2: Kate comes out much more aggressively this round. She sends a message to Janel with right to the mouth that splits Janel’s lower lip. As Janel falls back, Kate crisply bangs home rights and lefts to the head, Janel struck to the jaw, cheekbones and the side of the head. Janel gets her mitts up to protect her head, but now Kate is working Janel to the body. Janel struggling to regain her stability as Kate works her back into the ropes. Janel fighting along the ropes, but Kate finally able to pin her against the ropes and pounds away at her midsection. However time runs out on the round and Janel walks away shaken, but still on her feet. Kate wins the round wide.

R3: Kate closes in on Janel as soon as she can get to her as the new round starts. Janel ready for her, though and they get into an intense toe to toe battle. Kate ramming home her punches into Janel’s body, but Janel setting her feet and giving the hard rights and lefts into Kate’s body. The battle raged very evenly, but then Janel tried to side step and catch Kate with a surprise overhand right. Kate reacted too quickly and brought own right to clout Janel on the side of the chin. Janel shivered and stumbled back. Kate pushed in with more punches to the body, but Janel lashed back with her jab and managed to stay even with Kate again to the bell. However Kate had managed to win a close win this round on the judges’ cards.

R4: They go right back at in the new round. Janel and Kate out of their corners and go right at each other to the body. They are circling around each other slightly as they whack away at each other. Intense action as the two glare at each other, sweating dripping down their straining bodies as the sound of leather splatting onto wet bodies can be heard. Neither wanting to give ground, but then Janel drives three deep hooks into Kate’s belly. Kelly gurgles and shudders as she gasps for air Janel just hammers at away with those hooks and she’s got Kate tipped forward. Kate still fighting back though, but she has to give ground as the round winds down.It is another close round, but Janel Parrish emerges with the win.

R5: This round the fighters seem reluctant to resume the battle of attrition in close. They are circling each other, trying to punch at a distance with most of the punches going towards the head. Then Janel seems to lose patience with this approach and moves forward quickly to resume her attack on Kate’s midsection. Kate trying to use Janel back with counters to her chest and head. Janel ducking and weaving, now she strikes upwards with a right uppercut to the chin. Kate is caught flush and goes staggering backwards. Janel springing forward to pound away at the retreating Kate to the body. Kate trying to jab, but Janel dodging counters and rips another right uppercut into Kate’s chin. Kate thrown back into the ropes and then bounces forward into a crushing left-right combo to the jaw. DOWN GOES KATE MARA! Kate just topples onto her side and lays there all curled up. Janel hurries to the neutral corner as the referee moves in. Kate trying to rising, using her arms to push herself up off the canvas, but she can’t beat the count:

“NINE!...TEN!...YER OUT!”

THE WINNER JANEL PARRISH DEFEATS KATE MARA KO5!

After: Janel beams with pleasure as she finally gets her third FCBA-career win. PLP stablemates Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse all surround her in the ring for a group celebration. Meanwhile, a dismayed Kate Mara is helped to her feet and assisted to her stool for a quick check-up before departing for the EE dressing rooms.

“I cannot tell you how good it feels to win again” Janel tells Archer News reporter Skip Tracey. “Kate’s a decent fighter, but I was better and I won it. I just hope this is the start of consistent winning for me. I know I am on thin ice here at PLP and I need every win I can get!”

Skip later has a few words with Kate Mara: “I was keeping even with her and then I slipped up just a little. Next thing I know I am getting my bell rung and I’m on the canvas. I know this has to change for me. I just hope I have the time to turn things around!”

It was, as Kate Mara said, a pretty even contest, but Janel able to take advantage of a Kate Mara mistake in the 5th to land the bell ringer that set Janel on the path to victory. Just goes to show that the margin between victory and defeat can be one mistake. Certainly this was a welcome win for Janel Parrish and another discouraging loss for Kate Mara. Still, there was plenty of action while it lasted and flyweight fans certainly got their monies worth.
