Demi Lovato vs. Brie Larson

BEFORE:

Match up of top flight bantams sees Lovato, coming off a loss to Bella Thorne that ended her title run, coming up against dangerous blonde Larson, who, no doubt, has her eyes set on the very belts Demi just lost. "Yeah, it sucks to give up the gold to Bella," says Demi with a verbal shrug. "But. Nobody holds the belts forever. But, now's the time to start building toward getting a chance to get the gold back around my waist."

"I learned some thing from watching Thorne beat her, yeah," says Brie with a smile. "And, I know some OTHER things, too. She's good. You don't win the title without being good. But. I'm better and I know how to beat her."

ROUND ONE:

Demi looking ALL out of sorts as this one starts. Larson showing excellent movement and hand speed takes control early, peppering the former champ with punches and forcing her to the defensive. Demi spending waaaaay too much time covering up as Brie goes from one combination to another, getting into a fearful early rhythm that has the champ on the back foot and, soon enough, backing up. Blonde becoming more and more dominant as the round goes on, with Lovato simply unable to get out of neutral, or, more properly, reverse. She's not hurt, but she's taking a ton of hard, accurate leather and can't seem to do much about it. Final thirty seconds sees Larson sitting down on punches and Demi backing and covering. When the bell finally rings, Brie's taken it wide to grab a 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

That first fight after losing the belts is always tricky. There's a hangover. And, it comes from two things, thinking about and working to correct what went wrong, and realizing that, tonight, you're NOT going out there to win or defend hardware, just to try to win a fight. And, Lovato was clearly hung over in the first. That changes some in the second. Not right away. Brie's still in control for the first minute or so, but, about that time, a switch is flipped and Demi begins getting her offense going. Soon enough, Lovato's stepping in, working body, landing the good upstairs stuff off it. All the things we've seen the lovely brunette do so effectively many times before. Larson is now the one out of sorts, as the former champ slowly makes up the early stagger and pulls ahead late to grab the points close and even the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Former champ gets it going now. She's getting the geometry she wants, getting inside and fighting this thing in the phone booth. Blonde crowded, forced to the defensive, unable to get the range or terms she wants. Lovato tenderizing meat at times, hammering the midsection, ripping the ribs. Brie trying everything to slow her down, tying up, shoving off, looking for some breathing room. But, there's going to be no breathing on Lovato's watch. The pressure is as unending as it is effective, with tons of body work and some solid shot to the head that, on occasion, backs up the blonde. By the end of the round, Brie is rope bound and taking a thumping. Demi's got everything going now, and Larson seemingly has no answers. When the bell rings, the brunette's won it wide and taken the lead at 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Lovato continuing her domination. She's getting the terms she wants now, and, as good as the blonde is, she's not about to beat Demi fighting Demi's fight. Instead, Lovaton's getting work done, body, head, back to the body...BOOM! Right hook, Larson! And, Demi is HURT! Lovato staggered, nearly goes down, and BRIE DROPS HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! Demi stunned, on her back, as the blonde heads to a neutral corner. Referee counting down on the former champ, who rolls over at seven, pushes to hands and knees at eight, and gets to her feet at nine. Ref watching closely as he gives the mandatory, but he waives on Brie, who goes to TOWN, battering the brunette back into the ropes and giving her a thorough going over for the rest of the round. When the bell rings, Brie's taken it 10-8 and leads 38-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Larson cleaning up. She's looking to finish, of course, but, in the mean time, she's punishing the brunette, battering her around the ring, setting up hard, heavy rights with nice, crisp jabs. Demi all defensive, giving ground, keeping the hands high, playing for time to get those sturdy legs back under her. But, Brie's making her pay in a big way, working mostly to the head, but digging the odd, nasty shot to the body as well. Lovato does well to take all of it and stay on her feet. But, that's about all she's able to accomplish save the odd counter. It's mostly all Brie Larson, piling up both points and hurt from the opening seconds to the final bell. And, when the latter sounds, Larson has taken the points by a wide margin to stretch her lead to 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Brie continuing to control things early, but, slowly, Demi's legs begin to firm up. Brunette begins banging back, holding her ground. Larson continues pressing, though, not willing to stop the offensive. Result? FIREFIGHT in the middle of the ring! Ladies letting the hands go, landing hard shot, trying to force the other to punk. But. Nobody's punking. Instead, both blonde and brunette hang in there and fire back. It's hot and heavy for the entire round, with the crowd on its feet several times after particularly big exchanges. And, despite the mostly-even fighting, Demi does enough to eat up Brie's early advantage and pull even late in the round. She can do no more than that, however, and, when the bell finally rings, there's nothing in it. It's a draw, and Larson's lead remains two points, 58-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Ladies right back to it. Trading big shots in the middle of the ring. Nobody made reticent by all the heavy leather landed in the last frame. Instead, both blonde and brunette sitting down on everything, looking to impose will while neither is willing to be imposed upon...BOOM! Short right hook, DEMI, and Larson is HURT! Brie's steppin' in fence post holes as Lovato goes all in. Brunette winging away with both hands looking to put the blonde both down and away. Brie backing, covering, just trying to withstand the onslaught while Lovato looks to pile up the points and the hurt. Late in the round, Demi pins the blonde to the ropes and begins buying body in bulk. Brie tying up, hanging on, running clock, and manages to make it to the bell. When it rings, Lovato's taken it wide and cut Larson's lead to 67-66.

ROUND EIGHT:

Demi dominant. Brie's still wobbly, and the former champ takes full advantage, backing Larson up again and again with flurries of hard leather, cleaning up while looking for the big shot that will end it. HARD right about a minute in sends Larson staggering into the ropes. Ref watches closely as the brunette bangs away, hammering the body, looking to bring the guard down. Blonde taking the punishment, keeping the hands high. BOOM! Lovato SPLITS THE GLOVES WITH A RIGHT UPPIE and Larson ragdolls past the former champ's left shoulder to crash at her feet! Demi quickly to a neutral corner to watch as the referee counts over Brie's back. No movement at all from Larson, who's not just down but OUT. IT'S OVER! And your winner by KO8 in BRUTAL fashion is Demi Lovato!

AFTER:

Demi heart-attach serious in the post-fight. "I told you coming in," the hard-eyed brunette says. "I'm the best bantamweight there is. Thorne might have those belts, but she's just holding them for me. They're coming back around this waist. As soon as soon as someone has the guts to give me another shot at them."
