Karlie Kloss vs. Ana Beatriz Barros

"Ana," says Karlie with a shake of the head. "What is she, fifty or something? Shouldn't she be fighting Cougar bouts? Well. After I'm done with her, she'll wish she was."

"Karlie apparently needs to be taught some humility," says a hard-eyed Ana. "And, being ten years her senior, I'll be HAPPY to be the teacher."

ROUND ONE:

Ladies get to range early, which is no surprise, as both have plenty of length. But, even Barros doesn't have as much as Kloss. And, that plays early, as Ana, used to having the reach advantage, can't get the geometry right against Kloss. So, Karlie makes her pay. Kloss starts a bit slowly, probing, but, as the round goes on, she begins finding with the left and PUNISHING with the follow-on rights. Barros game, keeps working to find spots for rejoinders, but has little success doing so. Instead, Kloss establishes more and more control as the round goes on. In the final thirty seconds, she's tossing pot-shots at Barros, looking to find something big. She's not able to do it, but, when the round ends, Karlie's got it wide and she's also got the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Kloss keeps rolling early, and demonstrates how she won eleven of her first fourteen fights before the recent uneven patch. There's a BOX full of tools here, and she's using them to take the fight to Ana. But, while Barros doesn't exactly have a ton of FCBA experience, she IS 37 and she's been around the fight game awhile. She doesn't wilt. And she doesn't panic. And, eventually, she begins finding the angles she needs. Then, she begins firing back, and we start to see excellent two-way action. Crowd starts getting into it in a big way as the ladies start trading flurries complete with some serious bombs before settling down into more boxing late in the round. Barros gives as good as she gets, but, Kloss' early dominance plays. When the bell rings, Kloss has taken a second straight round and leads 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

Third begins the way the second ended, with the ladies boxing on even terms. Both fighters are landing hard shot, but neither has been able to hurt the other, despite a nice volume of heavy leather. What both HAVE managed to do, however, is pile up points and damage. Both girls starting to scuff a little as the round goes on, but that doesn't slow either. Instead, the long, lovely models continue having at one another, with not much in it. That changes late, when Barros gets a couple of solid flurries on and forces Kloss to back and cover. The older beauty, sensing and advantage, follows up quickly, landing a very good right that gets Kloss' attention, then letting the hands go to the bell. When it rings, Barros has taken the points, cutting Kloss' lead to 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Barros has something. She's got the range down and she's getting in a great rhythm, beating Karlie to punches, landing hard right hands, getting the younger woman on her back foot and keeping her there. Kloss firing back here and there, but mostly being preempted by the older beauty. Ana putting it all together right now and taking the fight to the taller girl in a big way. Kloss not hurt, but she's getting touched up and scuffed up while the Brazilian gains almost total control of the proceedings. Karlie scrambling for answers, but not finding. Instead, it's Barros doing the finding. Of Kloss' face with her fists. Final seconds sees the older woman land a hard right that sends sweat flying. When the bell rings? Staredown before Barros turns and stomps back to her corner. She's taken the points wide and evened the fight at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Barros coming forward, backing up Kloss. Karlie playing defense, keeping the hands high, firing back here and there in the counter, but looking pretty resigned to the older woman fighting lead. Ana putting punches together well, ringing up more points, but looking for something bigger. BOOM! Straight right hand KLOSS! A devastating counter punch and DOWN GOES ANA! Barros POLEAXED, crashing, limply to her back, all power cut to everything by an absolutely VICIOUS punch. Kloss takes a second to stare down at the Brazilian, admiring her work, before walking slowly to a neutral corner. Referee begins counting over a motionless Ana, but it's all academic. Barros is down and out and it's OVER! And your winner in lightning strike fashion by KO5 is Karlie Kloss!

AFTER:

Karlie smiling in the post. Face shows she's been in a fight, but she's nowhere near admitting it. "Like I said, she's too old. She's no competition for a girl like me. Maybe 15 years ago, because, you know, I was, like, in middle school. But, now? No. Not in my league. But, to be fair to her, SO few women in the FCBA ARE. SO few."
