Missy Peregrym versus Adrianne Palicki

Matchup of two hard hitting boxer-punchers looking to get back into the lightweight title picture. Press conference a picture of professionalism and mutual respect. Palicki telling a reporter, “A lot of people make the mistake of thinking Missy is some blown up bantam – she’s not – she’s a lightweight boiled down to bantam at the beginning of her career. You take her lightly and think you are going to walk through her punch, you end up on your back while the man counts ‘ten’. Jenny dropped a tough dime to her a few years back and I’ve been picking Mac’s brain as well as looking at tape.” Pundits split down the middle on this one – some liking Peregyrm’s speed, style and toughness, others favoring Palicki’s height and vaunted hitting power.

Round 1 – Fighters out of corner in classic high guard, Peregrym on her toes and Palicki flat footed legs apart, right hand cocked. Missy all loose and quick … jab jab jab to get inside … flurries with both hands and then back out , Palicki right hand receipt missing late. Missy in and out, frustrating the taller woman. At one point late, they trade mid ring, Peregrym jab and left hook to chin, Palicki back with buddy whip hook to the midriff, Peregrym cuffing right to the temple, Palicki bashes left hook to the temple through guard, gambles with right uppercut – Missy all bendy back out of the way and slings right hand back onto the chin which puts a shimmy in big girl’s knees. Great first round for Missy Peregrym.

Round 2 – Scrubby McGee in Sceej corner calling on Palicki “to move yer damn hands, goil!”. Palicki stalking more purposefully, still flummoxed by Peregrym’s speed but able to press the action and force exchanges in spots. Hard to call until late when Adrianne clangs a left hook off Missy jaw to steal the round, follow up right barely misses or we could have seen end of the fight right there!

Round 3 – Palicki pressing the action, taking chances, taking one to give one. Pergrym fighting backing up, using jab to try to dictate distance but big girl keeps coming, albeit at a price. Peregrym sticking jab to Palicki face, taking hood to the body in return, Missy looks to counter with right and BOOM – that “Hammer of Thor” Palicki right sits Missy down on her shapely butt! Palicki did not get her back into the punch , but still has Missy blinking and shaking head to regain senses. Missy up at 8 … retreats to ropes and endures 30 seconds of Hell as big Adrianne lashes to the body. 10-8 round Palicki!

Round 4 – Missy out of the corner and on her toes – she’s willing to give away the round to buy time. Circling left, then quick pivots back right. Adrienne stalking with right hand cocked … she throws but Missy able to snake head back and avoid the haymakers, frustrating the Chin Checker. Round to Palicki on sheer aggression but tongue lashing in the corner that she let Missy off the hook!

Round 5 – Palicki reminded in corner “Both hands – both!” and no longer the head-hunter of last round. She’s using that long jab to poke at Missy’s pretty face, trying to sucker into a rush and that waiting big right. Missy stoic, looking to move side to side, use her own jab to get inside – when she does, she looks to flurry to body but Palicki quick to clinch. Girls wrestle at length until ref separates. Missy standing her ground and beckoning the big girl “come on!”. Palicki big left hook with bad intentions –Peregrym ducks into couch and then erupts up with her own hook and kisses the amazon’s jaw – big girl down! Knockdown has Palicki all wide eyed and disoriented … up at 9 but clearly woozy … Peregrym with eyes narrowed in for the kill when bell rings and steal chance for the finish. Missy steals a round that Palicki had won and has taller woman reeling.

Round 6 – Sloppy round, Missy looking for the off switch, maybe reaching too much with the right. Adrienne content to use jab not to punish but just to maintain distance. When Peregrym does close, Palicki uses long arms to wrap her up like an octopus. Foxfire corner screaming about the long clinches and Adrienne lectured by ref for refusing to let go, but manages to run out the round. Another one in the bank for Missy but she wanted the finisher!

Round 7 – Palicki legs back under her! Missy looking to take care of unfinished business! They meet center ring and launch into explosive exchange which brings crowd to its feet! Lightweight contenders trading leather at furious rate – this one ain’t going to the eighth! Palicki hook to Peregrym ribs! Peregrym with left right combination to the jaw and forehead! Back and forth action. Palicki loads up the diamond cutter right – sails over Peregrym’s head and Missy counters with left upper cut that raises big girl up onto her toes. Palicki stumble two steps back and an almost feral Missy Peregrym is on her! Eyes narrowed, teeth bared. Left right to the body. Palicki wilts. Missy digs the money hook to the liver, folding the big girl over. Right uppercut that Adrienne never sees! Pitches forward face first. Ref waives it off without a count – she’s out as cold as a mackerel! Winner by knockout in the 7th round – Missy ‘freakin’ Peregrym.

Post fight: Missy with visit to Sceej corner. Palicki still being brought around. Adrienne not able to stand but offers a handshake to a gracious winner, drawing an exasperated eye roll from stablemate Jenny McCarthy.
