(23 / 5’4” / 12:12 FCBA / 0:1 BBU / Lioness Club of America)

Elyse Willems

(34 / 5’3” / 3:3 FCBA / The Comediennes)

Results: Lookout! / Story: The Comediennes

Pre-Fight:

“Don’t think I don’t know what can happen in a PPV,” Chloe says. “I don’t care how many in a row she’s lost, she’s a fighter with KO power. I lost 6 straight before this current win streak, so 3 losses for her is nothing. I have to stay smart though and use my fresher legs to my advantage.”

“I feel like a 5-year-old at the playground,” Elyse says. “On the slide. It’s been a rough month, probably tried to do too much. But, all I can do now is try to put a positive cap on a bad stretch. She’s coming off of 6 straight wins, I think? So the last thing I want to do is underestimate her.”

R1: The bell rings and the two fighters slide out of the ring. Chloe looking quicker, as to be expected, and is able to land a few jabs to back Elyse up.

Elyse tightens her guard. Chloe’s footwork is giving Elyse some trouble, but as she tries to swing a right hook it bangs off of Elyse’s glove. With Chloe wide open, Elyse goes to her trusty jab. It snaps Chloe’s head backwards and Elyse walks the younger girl back.

Chloe avoids the ropes, and side-steps, landing a clean right-cross to Elyse’s jaw. The Comedienne is forced to back up and Chloe steps up. She throws an uppercut that misses the mark and opens herself up for a counter-cross from Elyse. Chloe’s eyes widen as Elyse dodges another punch and sinks an uppercut into the ribs. Chloe groans out as her jaw hangs open.

Elyse sees an opportunity to end it now, but as she connects on three more right crosses the bell clangs and ends the round.

Elyse takes the first round, 10-9.

R2: Chloe comes out blazing the next round. She’s upset at losing that round late and starts off with three straight jabs that find their way past Elyse’s defense.

Elyse counter punches effectively. Neither girl can quite find an advantage through the first minute.

Then Chloe finds a rhythm. She dodges a right hook from Elyse and follows up with two very quick jabs that nail Elyse square in the face. As Elyse takes a few steps back, Chloe takes advantage. Body shot after body shot shake Elyse to her core. Her defense droops and Chloe plants, snaps her hips, and sends Elyse’s head flying to the side with a right cross.

The older woman is forced onto the ropes. She covers up as Chloe wails on her. Elyse soaks up the damage and the bell rings, stopping the slaughter.

Tied up 19-19.

R3: Elyse is relieved to have lasted through that round. She comes out with a bit of renewed confidence. She figured she was close to being KO’d there, so she’s got a new lease on life.

As Chloe comes out aggressive, Elyse plants and refuses to be moved. Even as Chloe hammers her back and forth between hands, Elsye stands in the middle of the ring. She just won’t move.

Chloe furrows her brow, determined to put Elyse on the canvas. But as she rears back for a knockout blow, Elyse sudden ducks and follows with a left uppercut. Chloe is caught completely off guard and she panics. She tries to punch her way out of trouble, but all Elyse has to do is block the small stuff and dart away from the big stuff. Then she can follow up with beautiful counter punches.

The Lioness is battered all the way back to her corner as Elyse dissects her defense with precision. The jab tears Chloe’s face apart and Elyse makes sure to mix up some of those brutal right-handed uppercuts into the gut. At the end of the round Chloe’s face has begun to swell. A cut forms on her eyebrow. If she wasn’t already in her corner she may have had to crawl to it.

Elyse takes the lead with a come from behind round 29-28.

R4: Chloe argues with her trainer in the corner. She doesn’t want to play it safe, she wants at Elyse. But when she stands and feels how wobbly her knees are, she convinces herself it’s time to up the defense.

While her knees are weak, Chloe can still move much better than Elyse. As the round goes on she sees Elyse getting more and more frustrated. The Comedienne is reaching. She’s throwing low percentage shots and eating counter jabs. Chloe’s legs feel more stable as the round gets into the third minute. That’s when she makes her move.

Elyse throws a right hook that Chloe blocks. Elyse is wide open and Chloe slams her left glove into the older girl’s jaw. The Comedienne instinctively raises her guard, but Chloe lands a left-right uppercut combo to the abdomen. The younger girl feels her opponent’s hot breath rush onto her shoulder. She smiles. Elyse is primed for another knock down.

Unfortunately for her, Elyse is savvy enough to hold on for a clinch. And hold on she does. The ref steps in to break them up, but there’s no time for Chloe to continue her assault. The bell rings and Elyse survives another round.

We’re tied going into the 5th, 38-38.

R5: Elyse comes out feeling queasy, and for good reason. She took a throttling at the end of the previous round and when she meets Chloe in the middle of the ring…

*THWAM*

A single right hook and Elyse is down on the canvas. Chloe beats her chest and roars. She looks like an ancient warrior who just downed her most hated foe. Her corner celebrates as Chloe lifts her hands up in celebration.

The ref stands over a splayed out Elyse… he’s to five as the Comedienne begins to stir. Elyse’s arms quiver as she pushes herself up. She gets to her feet at eight and the ref side-eyes her. But Elyse nods and insists she’s good to continue. The ref claps his hands together and they’re back at it.

Chloe nails Elyse with a one-two combo and is able to back her into the ropes. She starts to batter Elyse again. It’s beginning to look like the Eilish & Vayntrub fights all over again. Elyse is dead in the water. On the brink of another TKO loss… Everyone in the crowd can see it coming with every brutal blow. Elyse is knocked around, pinballed as Chloe continues her beat down.

All of a sudden though, Elyse digs deep and fires an uppercut that makes Chloe’s teeth chatter. The bell rings and Elyse uses the ropes as a guide to get to her corner.

Chloe takes the round handily, but can’t quite end it. We go into round 6 with Moretz up 48-46.

R6: If Chloe was angry before, she’s furious now. She had the fight won. Elyse was finished.

The younger girl bolts out of the ring as if her corner is spring-loaded. She’s on Elyse in mere moments and she brutalizes her with a right and left cross combo. Elyse’s head snaps back and forth. She stumbles back, her cranium leading the way.

Chloe is on her again. Another crushing rib shot takes all the breath out of Elyse. She clutches and begins to double over, so Chloe smacks her with a right hook. The older woman crashes into the corner as the younger girl hammers past her defenses. Elyse’s jaw hangs slack, her gloves drifting down.

*BAM BAM BAM*

Chloe’s right hand nails Elyse square in the stomach.

“How is she not down???” someone yells from the crowd.

And it’s true, Elyse is not down. In fact she’s able to dodge a right aimed for her face and once again finds an uppercut to escape trouble.

Chloe is now in haymaker mode as Elyse slips from the corner. She’s opening herself up unnecessary risks. Trying to break through Elyse’s defenses, but Elyse simply wades in the water. She snaps a few jabs here, a couple of more uppercuts there, and then finally as Chloe almost does a 360 spin, Elyse rams a left hand into her gut.

Chloe backs up and now she’s the one in trouble. Elyse’s strikes are more precise, and because of that she looks more technical. Chloe is able to weather the storm, but not before getting battered around. Elyse takes firm control and as the bell rings she’s salvaged another round.

Elyse somehow comes all the way from the brink to squeak out another round. Moretz up 57-56.

R7: Chloe Grace Moretz and Elyse Willems meet each other in the center ring. The round doesn’t start off with fireworks. Instead it’s the opposite.

The crowd can see it, both girls are hurting. Their muscles are in anguish. Their legs sluggishly slosh through invisible waters. Their postures are noticeably worse than the start of the fight, their slouched frames teetering in the middle of the ring.

A few light blows are traded. Neither girl is keen on defense, but neither one can find it in them to go for the kill.

Chloe starts to gain some traction into the second minute. She finds a bit of a rhythm. Elyse’s flushed face gets snapped back over and over again by Chloe’s jabs. Chloe digs deep and tosses a right hook that makes Elyse stumble. Elyse catches herself on the ropes to keep from another knockdown. Chloe comes in, another right-handed blow as Elyse’s arms sprawl out on the top ropes.

The Lioness gives out a roar as she begins throwing heavier and heavier punches. She sees Elyse is ready to go down.

And then for the third time in the fight, Elyse throws a desperation uppercut. This one comes after six and half rounds, though and is enough to send Chloe crashing to the canvas.

Elyse leans against the ropes, clutching her abdomen. Her face is marked up, brutalized by Chloe’s fists.

And yet it’s Chloe who is face down on the canvas. She begins to push herself up but those younger legs give out from under her. The Lioness topples back down to the mat and the ref reaches 10.

Winner: Elyse Willems KO Round 7

Post-Fight:

“It stings,” says Chloe. “I had her multiple times in the fight and just… I couldn’t put her away. So it’s back to the beginning, I guess. The winning streak is over and I have to start it again. She’s tough though. I gave her a real beating and she kept coming at me. I’m not sure what else to say.”

“Yeah, I have no clue how I won that,” says Elyse. “I really felt out-boxed there, you know? And I know I definitely threw fewer punches, landed fewer too. I think it was something like a 2:1 ratio? So yeah, all I can say is I refused to stay down and then refused to go down. She didn’t. A win is a win.”
