BEFORE:

"Look, it's been frustrating," says Ashley with a shake of the head. "All of a sudden, I stop getting FCBA fights, and, why? I starched VanCamp and she's winning titles around here, and I don't get any phone calls? Well. I got one. And, I'll remind everyone why they should have been booking me all along."

"She's not wrong about deserving more work here than she's gotten," says Gemma with a nod. "But, she's not reminding anyone of anything tonight."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'On The Dark Side' by Nostalghia, from the soundtrack of 'Salem', and here comes one of the stars of that series, Ashley Madekwe!"

McCarthy: "Weirdo must be slipping. This girl actually HAS FCBA wins, and it only took us EIGHT fights for that to happen for the first time in 2021!"

O'Dell: "Madekwe into the ring and helped off with the robe, and she's looking plenty good in that black number she's chosen for tonight's festivities. And, that's 'London Calling' by The Clash you hear thumping through the arena, and that can only mean that 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton, is on her way to the ring..."

Tess: "Gems coming off another excellent year in 2021, only loss was to Taylor Swift...and there's a lot of that going around."

Cassie: "And, it hasn't been that long since she stopped Palicki, who's proven she's right in the middle of the pound-for-pound discussion."

O'Dell: "Arterton into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that violet number we've seen before. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Gemma. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Madekwe HAS FCBA wins. Ashley!"

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Split panel. Let's see who's right. Madekwe making with the jab early. She's moving, snapping that left out, wants space here and she's using those long legs to get it. Gemma patient. She wants to create exchanges here, get her box on and bring her power to bear..."

Cassie: "No doubt Gems has the power advantage here."

O'Dell: "No doubt about it, but she can't make use of it right now, because Ashley's using those feet to stay in space, make Gemma pursue. Arterton not going to chase, but she will stalk. Right now, however, she's seeking, but not finding as Ashley's able to continue to stay in open ocean..."

McCarthy: "Good strategy for Madekwe. She wouldn't get away with this with TORV, but with Arterton, she might..."

O'Dell: "Final seconds ticking away in the first, and it's been a good round for Ashley against her fellow Brit. Gemma patient, continues to work the feet, look to line up the older woman, but she's not been able to do it. There's the bell. No doubt about this one. Madekwe's round, and Ashley up 10-9 early."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second underway and Arterton getting the ring cut some now. She's finding ways to run Madekwe to ground and, when she does, she's getting off in combination, forcing the older woman to cover up, tossing her onto the defensive. Ashley keeping those exchanges as short as she can..."

McCarthy: "And, that's the key. You aren't going to stay moving ALL the time, unless you're an athlete like J-MAC, of course. So, when she cuts you, get out of there fast."

O'Dell: "That's what Madekwe is mostly managing to do. Ashley still having the better of it on the move, while Gemma's getting more done when she's able to force exchanges. GOOD right there from Arterton. That was the best punch of the fight so far, but Ashley quickly out of Dodge..."

Tess: "Madekwe moving very, very well despite Gemma's efforts to slow her."

O'Dell: "Certainly is. We're down under 20 seconds now in the third. Gems cuts the ring again and lands a SOLID combination. Ashley not hurt, ties up quickly and then slips away to open canvas. Five seconds left. Madekwe going to leg those away. There's the bell. Close. Arterton."

Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third begins with Ashley finding ways to create space again. Older brunette on the move, avoiding Gemma's efforts to cut the ring. And, when she's able to stay in open canvas, Madekwe is plenty effective, scoring with both hands, then slipping away before Gems can respond..."

Cassie: "No rush in Gemma, though. She's staying patient, working the feet."

O'Dell: "That comes with experience. No need to force or get sloppy. Stick with it, keep working. But, for the moment, that's not working. Instead, Arterton's scoring here and there, while Ashley is scoring consistently. She's not hurting her fellow Brit, but she's piling up points..."

Tess: "And, making Gemma work and work hard."

O'Dell: "Is, indeed. We're down under twenty seconds to go in the third. Good combination from Ashley, who then slides to her right and back to open canvas, circling. Gemma again trying to bring her to ground, but can't do it before the bell sounds. Another good round for Madekwe."

McCarthy: "And, she's up again, this time 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Madekwe on the move in the fourth. Arterton stalking, moving the feet, cutting the ring, landing a couple of hard shots before Ashley slips away and gets back to moving. Gems cutting again, stepping to now, working some body in there. Ashley tying up and forcing a break..."

McCarthy: "Good strategy the whole way by Madekwe..."

O'Dell: "Agreed, Mac. Ashley circling, moving, reversing her field. Gemma angling, cutting, closing, banging body in there again. And, once again, Madekwe ties up and the ref breaks them. Ashley circling, reversing and GETTING DROPPED WITH A RIGHT HAND!"

Tess: "What a SHOT!"

O'Dell: "Madekwe down on her right side parallel to the ropes. Gemma quickly to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. I think this is going to be academic. Arterton really timed that one. Seven. Eight. Ashley pushing up to elbow and haunch. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO4 is 'The Gravesend Gladiator' Gemma Arterton!"

Cassie: "Just an absolutely NASTY right hand there."

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and, Gems, good start to the 2021 campaign for you..."

Gemma (nodding): "Yeah. She was never going to be a pushover. She can box and she can move. But, she doesn't have the power I do. And, that was the difference."

Tess: "What's next for you?"

Gemma: "I'm looking for another shot at those belts this year. So, whatever gets me a step closer."
