Pre-Fight:

Kiernan Shipka when asked about her first fight with her new stable, “I know I shouldn’t say this but… I’m nervous. The pressure is on, right? New stable… my first stable… and I’m taking on a pretty solid opponent in Emilia. Thrown right into the fire, but that’s how things go, I guess. I’m sure when I get into the ring my adrenaline will kick in and my training will take over, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have any butterflies right now.”

Emilia Clarke on her inexperienced opponent, “You know, I’m not sure if this fight happens if I’m not a free agent. But all of a sudden your stable shuts down and you have to take fights you might not normally take. Look, I just want to get in and get out of here with a clean win. She might have some potential, but right now she’s not on my level as a fighter. I just have to finish her early and get out of here without getting hurt.”

R1:

A couple of blondes tap their gloves in the center of the ring. Emilia opts to stick with the light silvery hair that Game of Thrones fans will recognize while sporting red shorts with navy trim and matching gloves. Meanwhile Kiernan has on all black everything.

The first thing that stands out with Shipka is her mobility. She can really move, which makes Emilia trying to land anything in the opening round a challenge. That’s going to be the challenge… speed vs power. Emilia knows she probably won’t out strike Kiernan, and she gets a taste of her hand speed early. The tiny blonde dances around Clarke, firing off jabs every now and then, refusing to let Clarke land anything significant.

Nothing is really hurting Emilia, but she’s slightly behind the curve this round as Kiernan out-strikes her by a decent chunk.

R2:

The game plan remains the same for the Free Puncher. Move around early and often and keep Emilia from landing anything big. Shipka chips away at Clarke some more, every little bit adding up as she lands a few extra jabs the more risks she takes.

Emilia can’t catch her… so instead she tries to bait her. She starts throwing some non-competitive punches, making it seem like Kiernan is way too fast for her at all. Shipka senses the fight really starting to tilt her way. She keeps taking more chances. She hangs in there with Emilia a little bit more for a few more shots. Emilia can’t catch her! She’s going to punch her to pieces! Kiernan comes in for more and then backs off. Then she comes back. Each time she hangs around longer and longer.

Clarke shows that patience can make all the difference. Kiernan stays in close just a little too long when…

WHAM-WHAM

Alternating left-right hooks and Kiernan is hurt! She’s stumbling. She eats a left hand by Emilia. The small blonde has to cover up, but it makes no difference to Emilia who is whalloping her all around the ring. She hunts her down every single corner she goes to, landing brutal shots to the temple and cheek everywhere she goes. At the end of the round Kiernan looks like she’s been hit by a truck and the smirking Clarke goes back to her corner knowing she just made a major dent in her opponent.

R3:

The Brit is wise to Kiernan’s game now. Shipka tries to keep away, but that last round made her a little sluggish and Emilia takes full control early on. She’s getting every single angle she wants early on until finally Kiernan has to just go full guard and take the beat down. Emilia works her abs with efficiency and she feels it’s only a matter of time until Shipka’s body gives in.

Emilia’s gloves thrum as the sink into Kiernan’s stomach. Shipka now in a corner with nowhere to run. Her speed can’t help her now as she just tries to keep her guard up as long as possible. When her body can’t take the abuse anymore, she drops it and that’s when Emilia hits her with a vicious right hook that nearly spins her around. She follows it with a left hook that sends her flying the other way. Emilia tries to end it with one more hook, but before she can get it off Kiernan finds a nifty uppercut and brushes Clarke back.

Shipka uses her speed to escape the corner and get back to center-ring. Clarke comes after her, but Kiernan finds her footing and fires off a beautiful combo. She stands and fights with Emilia, which seems like a mistake, but with her fists so much faster she out-boxes her in the final thirty seconds. Clarke takes the round, but Kiernan walks away with a much needed confidence boost.

29-28 Clarke

R4:

Emilia has gotten into a groove these last two rounds, but Kiernan comes out with some newfound confidence early. She thinks she can punch with Emilia… so she tries to punch with Emilia. Clarke’s power rattles Kiernan as she gets brushed back early. But, the youngster recalibrates and starts gliding in some easy strikes while Emilia is in full attack mode.

Neither fighter does much to distinguish themselves from the other. Emilia hits with more power, Kiernan does a better job of landing and dodging. At the end it’s too close of a round to call.

39-38 Clarke.

R5:

Kiernan fires off a nice combo that lands early. Then she sinks a few jabs into Emilia’s stomach. She ducks a hook and follows with an uppercut. Clarke it hurt!!! Kiernan is on the hunt. She stings her back and forth between a couple of hooks. Then she rears back and delivers a nice clean right cross that causes Emilia to fall backwards into the ropes. Her arms are strung out across the bottom rope as she tries to find the leverage to push herself up, but she never does quite find her footing.

The ref reaches the ten count and it’s all over!!!

WINNER IN ROUND 5 VIA KO: KIERNAN SHIPKA

Post-Fight:

“Yeah wow, a little come from behind victory for my first Free Punchers bout,” Kiernan says as she absolutely beams. “I’m obviously still a long way away from where I want to be, but this seems like pretty significant progress to me! With how Abigail’s risen over the past couple of months I’m really excited to see where I can go in my growth from here.”

“The one word to describe this fight: disappointing,” says Emilia. “You know she has some pretty fast fists and she’s very fluid. I just thought my power would overwhelm her. It didn’t. You live and learn.”
