Michelle Williams vs Ana de Armas
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Michelle Williams
(41, 5’4, 156-76-7 FCBA, Hawkeye International Sports Consortium)

Ana de Armas
(33, 5’6, 11-3 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Pre-Fight: Hawkeye International Sports Consortium’s Michelle “Mishy” Williams will be facing League of Mighty Women’s current resident fighter, Ana de Armas, up next. Michelle will be looking to extend her winning streak to three and keep her stable’s undefeated streak against LMW, while Ana will be looking to start her residency with back-to-back wins and give herself an early birthday present.

Michelle kicks things off at the pre-fight press conference. “I’m happy to move on and face opponents that I actually want to fight instead of being forced to fight against my protégé. Vanessa’s (Hudgens) actions motivated me once again though and no one can stand in front of me until I have my vengeance… definitely not Ana. She is in that weird situation of neither being young nor experienced. She is nowhere near my level and it will show when we face each other.”

Ana doesn’t seem intimidated by her hall of famer opponent as she takes her turn to address the press conference audience. “Someone should remind Mishy that her days of looking down on her opponents are over. Sure, she used to be great, but not anymore. Just look at her record last year. That tells it all. Everyone wants a piece of her now. In my case, my new management wants me to focus on bantamweight, but even they knew that I couldn’t turn down a chance to beat up Mishy!” The pre-fight press conference comes to an end with an intense staredown as both sides look fully confident in their ability to defeat their opponent.

Come fight night, Michelle is the first fighter to enter the arena with her coaching team. She looks focused on the fight as she heads straight to the ring and only acknowledges the cheering fans with a quick nod and smile.

She is wearing a zebra-striped sports bra matched with black shorts, gloves and boots. Her short, pixie cut hair is wet.

Ana comes out next, walking down the aisle with her coach, Gillian Anderson, accompanying her. She waves and blows kisses to the crowd as they cheer for her. After entering the ring, she goes through her warmup routine, while listening to her coach.

She is wearing a red sports bra and matching shorts combined with white gloves and boots. Her hair is tied into double Dutch braids.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring to receive final instructions by the referee and then they touch gloves reluctantly with a cold stare. As they step back to their respective corners, we are ready for 10 rounds of flyweight action!

Fight: Round 1: Ana rushes to take the center of the ring, right off the bell, looking to gain control from the start, but Michelle is not backing off either. Ana utilizes her reach advantage to win a quick exchange in the middle. Michelle decides to change her approach and starts circling her opponent, while throwing one-two combinations. She keeps changing the focus of her attacks between the body and the head to keep her opponent guessing. After winning that initial exchange, Ana seems to be struggling with her timing as she goes for big punches to open up Michelle’s defense, but they are either missing or getting blocked by the American’s guard.

A very close round until deep into the final minute, when the American tries to get inside for another short exchange, but this time Ana gets her timing right to counter with a big straight. It doesn’t land cleanly as it only catches the top of Michelle’s forehead, but it is still enough to stop her and drop her defenses momentarily. It gives Ana the opening she was looking for, so she quickly lands two hooks to the chin, which drives Michelle back and forces her on the defensive. With that exchange, Ana wins the opening round.

Round 2: Michelle starts with a defensive approach this round, while Ana tries to press on with her advantage from the final minute of the last round. The Cuban throws some big punches, but nothing lands cleanly as Mishy’s experience comes into play and she dodges the big swings with her footwork and head movement, while blocking others with her guard. The hall of famer is also starting to establish her counter attacking tactics, slowly but surely. As Ana swings and misses, Michelle targets her opponent’s body with short combinations and then steps back out to not overstay her welcome. Ana ends up having a showy moment or two, but it is Michelle’s methodical work throughout the round that gives her the win, which ties things up on the scorecards.

Round 3: Despite not getting what she wanted in the previous round, Ana comes out attacking at the start of the third round again, while Michelle sticks with her defensive, counter attacking style. Ana tries to force longer exchanges, but Michelle is making her opponent chase her around the ring. Ana ends up expending more energy trying to catch Mishy with wide arching swings, but gets little return in exchange as her highly experienced opponent expertly dodges the Cuban’s attempts. In one of those counterattacking opportunities, Michelle lands a big hook to the ribs as we are entering the final minute of the round. It gives her an opening and she utilizes it with a double jab-straight combo landing on the Cuban’s face. It forces Ana to stay on defense for the rest of the round, while Mishy goes on the offensive. She lands a few more good shots, but nothing that puts Ana in real trouble.

Michelle looks happy as she heads towards her corner for the break, knowing that she was the clear winner of this round and that she is now ahead of her opponent on the scorecards. On the opposite corner, Gillian tries to motivate her fighter for the next round. “She is making you waste your energy and she will be in a better condition as this fight goes longer. So, you need to be more assertive with your attacks. Cut the angles and force her to exchange. You need to utilize your power advantage right now! Go for the finish!”

Round 4: Ana starts the round looking like a woman on a mission. Michelle might have been planning to have a more offensive approach in this round, but she quickly gets overwhelmed by Ana’s overly aggressive style and has to revert back to a defensive approach. She stops a few big punches with her guard, but knowing that it isn’t sustainable against the kind of firepower Ana is bringing early in this round, Mishy steps back and starts circling the ring as Ana follows with intent in her step. Ana occasionally cuts angles and catches Michelle with some hook combinations with some landing on target, while others get stopped by Michelle’s guard, but the American steps out of these exchanges as soon as she can.

Ana cuts the angle and lands a one-two combination to back her opponent towards the ropes as we are entering the last thirty seconds of the fourth round. She is looking for a finish as she goes all out on Mishy with a barrage of hooks to the ribs and the chin. Michelle constantly adjusts her guard to block as much as she can, but when she tries to fire back a jab and step out, Ana pushes her back to the ropes and continues with her relentless assault. Michelle’s forearms are getting blasted and the hooks that slip past her defenses land hard, but she is still defending and hanging there as the referee watches the situation closely. Michelle survives the round as the bell rings, but the fight was getting close to being stopped during that exchange. Ana flexes and trash-talks at her flustered opponent until the referee orders her to get back to her corner. She didn’t get the finish she was looking for this round, but it was a shutout round, which means that she goes back on top on the scorecards.

Round 5: Ana comes out attacking again, looking to finish what she started in the previous round, while Michelle looks like she hasn’t fully recovered yet, so things aren’t looking good for her. Ana goes for that knockout punch as she swings wildly, but Michelle stays safe so far as she is in survivor mode right now. That’s until a hook goes past Mishy’s defenses and hits her right on the temple, just past the minute mark. Ana jumps on the opportunity and drives Michelle back with a jab-straight combo. As she stepped back on shaky legs, another big hook to the jaw turns and drops her to the canvas! Ana stands over her, saying “I’m too strong for you old lady! Stay down if you know what’s good for you!” At that point, the referee sends her over to the neutral corner and starts the count. 1…2… Michelle lies on her side, rubbing her glove over her jaw 3…4…5… she rolls over and gets up on all fours, blinking to clear her vision 6…7…8… she raises on one knee first and then gets up to her feet, raising her guard to show she is ready to continue. After a quick check and wiping of gloves, the referee restarts the action.

Ana immediately applies pressure again as she tries to finish her opponent before the end of the round, but Michelle avoids any further trouble after that knockdown. As we come close to the end of the round, Ana starts to slow down and her swings start to look sluggish. Both fighters look relieved as the bell signals the end of the round, though they probably have different reasons for their relief. Ana opened up a commanding lead on the scorecards, but does she have enough fuel in the tank?

Round 6: Michelle looks cautious as she starts the round with a defensive style, but Ana isn’t pressing on with her advantage early in this round like she did before. She is clearly having trouble with her stamina at the moment. She throws two sluggish hooks, which Mishy avoids easily and counters with a few hooks of her own to the ribs. Another miss by Ana and another successful counterpunch by Mishy, this time an uppercut to the abs, which makes Ana wince. That gives the American the confidence to go back on the offensive after getting battered for the past two rounds. Now it is Mishy who is doing the battering and she blasts the Cuban’s midsection with a barrage of shots. Ana is fading quickly as she already looked gassed before this attack and now all these body shots are draining what little energy she has left. She doesn’t even have the energy to put up her guard properly.

Mishy switches things up with a couple of hooks to the chin, which forces Ana to clinch. She is just slumped over her opponent and the referee has a bit of a hard time to separate them, but once the action picks back up, Mishy hits her with a big hook to the ribs and Ana is down on her knees! Michelle walks over to the neutral corner, looking calm as the referee starts the count. 1…2…3… Ana stays on her knees, clutching her midsection and trying to get some air into her lungs 4…5… she looks up towards her coach and continues to gather her strength before attempting to get up 6…7… she gets up on one knee, but waits for another count to rest just a bit more 8… she gets up and nods toward the referee, showing that she wants to continue. After a quick check, the referee restarts the action.

Ana still looks hurt as she lowers her guard to protect her body, but her experienced opponent quickly takes advantage of the situation and hits her with a double jab-straight combo to the nose. Ana ends up being backed onto the ropes and she uses her last bit of energy to raise her guard up again. Mishy goes back to the body with a barrage of hooks to the ribs. Ana is wincing with each hit, but she cannot offer much in defending herself. Mishy keeps battering those ribs and as Ana’s right arm slumps over her opponent’s shoulder and her left arm slumps behind the ropes, the referee steps in to save her from getting completely destroyed! It is all over!
Official Result: Winner via TKO in round 6, Michelle Williams!

Post-Fight: Michelle walks away and back towards her corner with one arm raised. She still has a focused look on her face as she doesn’t show much emotion. On the other side, Gillian quickly joins the referee as they help Ana to slowly walk back to her corner and they gently lower her to her corner stool. The medical team checks her up and while their initial examination doesn’t show any serious injuries, they take her backstage for a more extensive checkup to make sure that she is alright.

Michelle comes back to the center with a smile as she gets her hand raised by the referee. However, she is still keeping her celebrations low key as she takes the microphone to address the cheering crowd. “I might have underestimated her strength a little, so she did give me some trouble, but I showed that she is not in my league in the end. She is not important though, you all know who my real target is and I won’t stop until she pays for what she did!”

That was an impressive comeback victory for Michelle as she showed that she can still take a punch from bigger opponents and then outmaneuver them using her experience. She improved her winning streak to three and she might be getting closer to another showdown with her bitter rival, Vanessa. She also made sure that HISC kept their perfect record against LMW and ruined Ana’s plan for an early birthday celebration. As for Ana, her performance in the earlier rounds was impressive as she showed that she can knock down a hall of famer, but her effort wasn’t enough to get the win. Her fitness struggles in the later rounds also showed why the LMW management wanted her to stick with bantamweight as the weight cutting before the fight might be one of the factors.
