Before: “It is the duty of a Champion to keep the unruly younger fighters in her division in line, but still allowing them to develop as Flyweights,” pontificates veteran Champion Vanessa Hudgens at the pre-fight presser. “So that is why I have fighting relative newcomers of talent like Cree Creechino and now Brec Bassinger. I trust she will appreciate my gesture.”

“Geez, some of you veterans have more hot air in them that a blimp,” says Brec Bassinger. “Yes, I appreciate the title shot, it will be my first, but I think I have fought well enough to earn it. In fact, I think I have fought well enough to even deflate a gas-bag like you Hudgens.”

Vanessa rolled her eyes: “What did I tell you? Unruly, no respect and think they are entitle to this historic belt after less than two dozen fights. Talk about ingratitude!”

“I said I appreciate the title shot. That is not ingratitude, but I am not going to kiss your ass first!” Brec fired back.

“You better watch your mouth or you’ll be kissing my ass after I have beaten you into a sobbing surrender!” Vanessa retorted.

“I don’t do ‘sobbing surrenders’, so that’s not going to happen,” Brec said flatly.

“You know, it’s going to be a special pleasure to teach you respect your elders and make you suffer in the process,” Vanessa declared with venom.

“You don’t scare me, Hudgens,” Brec retorted, “but you will fear me before this is over.”

“Ha!” Vanessa burst out. It looked like a full scale catfight was about to erupt, but these hopes were dashed when FCBA Security appeared with an official from the Front Office who announced this event was over, Vanessa and Brec were led away from each other, though social media ran out with fan debates over the conflict So it was no surprise the crowd was especially excited as the Flyweight Title Bout was announced over the loudspeaker and the fighters came down to the ring.

The Challenger, Brec Bassinger, appears in a sexy black one piece with sunny yellow gloves and boots (black laces). Her hair is pulled back in a perky ponytail. The Champion, Vanessa Hudgens, appears in an electric blue one piece with black gloves and boots (blue laces). Hard feeling still evident as the two push up against each other, hands on hips and defiant looks on their faces. Referee has to admonish them both with a stern lecture that reassures order long enough for instructions to be given and a curt glove tap is made. Brec and Vanessa are in their corners and the bell rings.

R1: Brec and Vanessa move to the middle of the ring and start exchanging tentative blows as the two size each other up. Brec comes aggressive the first an moves in, trying to get her punches into Vanessa’s face. Nessa ducking and dodging, responding with counters to Brec’s body, but then gets smacked hard across the mouth by a Brec swipe. Vanessa mounts a counterattack and tries to batter her way through Brec’s high guard. Nessa able to push several shots between Brec’s mitts to bloody the blonde’s nose. Brec not backing off, now pump hook after hook into Vanessa’s midsection. Vanessa finally gives ground under this pressure and Brec doing a decent job of blocking Nessa’s head punches, though some do get through. Brec fighting hard at the bell and this gets her the round, though it is a close one.

R2: Vanessa now goes to Brec’s body as the new round begins. Brec gives it right back to her and they move in close. Now short rights and lefts are being jerked up into breasts, ribs and abs. Two are looking each other right in the eye and neither seem to be flinching. However, late in the round, Brec starts to wince with each new Vanessa Hudgens blow landing. This heartens the Champion who tries to get more leverage into her punches and sure enough she is forced Brec back step by step, though the exchanges continue to the bell. However Vanessa has done just enough to edge Brec out on the judges’ cards to win the round.

R3: Vanessa and Brec head out for R3, but Brec starts moving faster and suddenly she bursts upon Vanessa with a clouting barrage of head and face shots. Vanessa banged around badly by this shelling, falls back quickly and tries to reset her defenses, but now Brec leaping in to work over Nessa to the rib cage. Vanessa lashing back with her jab, but it’s not discouraging Brec who returns to Nessa’s face with bruising straight rights and lefts. Vanessa covering up to protect her face, has to endure being worked to the body, though she does manage to keep from being trapped on the ropes. Very good round for Brec Bassinger who is awarded it wide on points after the bell sounds.

R4: Vanessa Hudgens not about to accept treatment like this from a relative newcomer. Shhe commences a fierce attack on Brec Bassinger as soon as the new round starts. Vanessa across the ring so fast she nearly traps Brec in her own corner. Brec bashed up in the head and face, but jabs back just enough to allow her to push her way out of the corner and get to the middle of the ring. Vanessa in hot pursuit and she is alternating punches between head and body in a pattern that has the dazed Brec befuddled. Vanessa working Brec to the ropes and forces the blonde to take a seat. Nessa sets to work on Brec’s body, but time runs out. Vanessa Hudgens scores a round won wide and she’s left Brec Bassinger gray-faced and breathing hard.

R5: Vanessa eager to resume her beat down of Brec, but Brec has recovered enough to block Vanessa’s initial efforts and offer some counterpunches as well. Vanessa starts circling and countercircling, looking for opening though which to attack, but Brec keeping up with her. Vanessa then tries to force her way in, Brec resisting, head shots fly and suddenly KA-POW! VANESSA HUDGENS GOES DOWN! Vanessa caught clean to the jaw, goes down on all fours as Brec drinks in the sight. Then she trots to the neutral corner. Referee is counting as Vanessa pulls herself together and tries to break the count at “EIGHT!’ Action resumes soon after, but Vanessa’s gone face-in-glove defense and keeps Brec Bassinger o the outside for what remains of the round. Knockdown assures Brec has won the round wide.

R6: Brec comes hard at Vanessa early in the round. She’s getting at Vanessa’s jaw and the side of her head, but Vanessa not giving up, Nessa finds Brec’s chin and clips it hard with repeated quick blows. Brec starts to lose power and drifts back, but Vanessa staying with her. Vanessa also driving hooks into Brec’s midsection to keep Brec under pressure. Brec not breaking down, however, she is jabbing back steadily and making the Champ feel it in the face and jaw. Vanessa pumping hard with those body hooks and Brec fading back as round ends. Another close one, but this one goes to Vanessa Hudgens.

R7: Vanessa and Brec now circling around each other, stepping in to fire off a flurry of punches and then dropping back. Steady back and forth, punches going to head and body in equal measure for both. It feels like a rhythm is developing, but, too late, Brec Bassinger realizes she has fallen for it, She is expecting Vanessa to hit at her body and her guard goes down. BOOM! Vanessa puts a beautiful right cross off Brec’s jaw splattering blood and sweat in a photogenic spray. Then, Vanessa brings a left BOOM! Into Brec’s jaw with equally devastating force. DOWN GOES BREC! The blonde topples onto her side and then rolls over onto her back. Vanessa struts to the neutral corner. Brec pushing herself up into a kneeling position looks around blankly until she realizes the referee is standing over her nd counting her out. Brec makes it to her feet in time to beat the count at “NINE!. Fight resumes but Brec follows Vanessa example and goes into the turtle defense by burying her face in her gloves and allowing Vanessa access only to her flanks, Vanessa settles for giving Brec’s flank ribs a good pounding as time runs out. Now Vanessa Hudgens has a matching knockdown and she won this round wide as well.

R8: Vanessa now crowds into Brec and seems to be working her side ribs with special attention. Brec gritting her teeth and hammering right back at Vanessa. Brec attacking up the middle, belly ad ribs with some swipes at Vanessa’s rack. Vanessa trying to ignoring this as she tries to break down Brec’s torso, but Brec is getting good leverage into her punches and Vanessa starts to gurgle and gasp. Brec pushing Vanessa back step by step. Vanessa fighting back. Only the sounding of the bell stops this battle. The two step back, sweat dripping from their faces as their chests heave and then they abruptly turn away and march to their corners. Result is a narrow win on points for Brec Bassinger.

R9:Now Brec is crowding into Vanessa as the round began. Brec basically working the Vanessa’s midsection over and over. Vanessa’s rib cage and stomach must really be feeling the effects of this relentless punching. However Vanessa keeps hanging in, trying to do the same to Brec’s midsection, but Brec just keeps punching harder. Crowd is wildly cheering them on. Once again, it is Brec pushing back Vanessa Hudgens late that tips the balance in the eyes of the judges. Vanessa again forced to slowly give ground and this allows Brec to win another close round with only one stanza remaining!

R10: Vanessa comes off her stool for the final round with a clear change in tactics. As Brec comes rushing in eager for more of the closepin action, Vanessa starts swinging from middle distance. Brec smashed hard to the side of the head and then the jaw. Brec staggering off to one side and Vanessa moves smoothly to stay with her. Brec shaking her head, trying to clear the cobwebs and then makes a charge at Vanessa. Vanessa takes it into belly once again, but this time she fires a straight right into Brec’s right eye. Brec recoils as an angry red area spring s up around the eye. Vanessa smashes the eye again and Brec shudders from the impact. Brec now has her gloves up high trying to protect her eye, but Vanessa sneaking uppercuts in to snap back Brec’s chin. Brec trying to get away from Vanessa’s punches, but gets herded into the ropes and gets pounded over and over to the body. Brec somehow staying up through this body busting attack, but when the bell sounds she sags to her knees, moaning as she wraps her arms around her ravaged midsection. Vanessa just smiling triumphantly.

The fight goes to the judges and there is no doubt at the outcome: VANESSA HUDGENS IS STILL FCBA FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION AS SHE DEFEATS BREC BASSINGER UD10!

After: As the referee lifts Vanessa’s arm in victory, Brec Bassinger flees to the PLP corner where she sobs in the arms of her trainer Nia Peeples, PLP stablemates Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson and Janel Parrish also seek to comfort Brec on this bitter loss.

“Brec Bassinger has learned a painful lesson: respect your FCBA elders. It probably won’t save you from a beating, but at least you’ll know you had it coming,” proclaims Vanessa Hudgens. That 10th Round? Oh, I finally realized I was fighting Bassinger’s fight going at her in close like that It just wasn;t working fir me. So I crossed her up and went for a more long range approach until I had her on the ropes. No, she didn’t go down, but working her over ike that was the fun part of my night,”

As for Brec, she says: “I’ll be back. She can bet on that. I didn’t in this time, but I came close. Next time she won’t be so lucky!”

Not many FCBA fights seem to go the distance these days, but this one did and it gave the fans 10 rounds of hard fought action. The 8th and 9th Rounds might well have gotten young Brec fixed on what the 10th would be only to have Vanessa Hudgens try something else with devastating results for the challenger. No doubt, a very satisfying win for Vanessa Hudgens, but a bitter loss for Brec Bassinger. Sometimes coming close hurts worse than a big miss. Nevertheless we expect Brec will recover from this setback and be on the title hunt again soon. Meanwhile FCBA fans can savor the memories of an excellent title fight
